"So we be riding in a pumkin cart then?" Brin asks, though seemingly not caring overly much about it. "How long be it before they be leaving?" He glances to those around. "I be having all I be needing..." He adjusts the pack on his back. "Anyone else be needing to be picking anything up before we be leaving?"
Wow, what don't we have. I've seen Worgs, Manticores, Grick, Bulette, Ankheg, which freak me out and 3 different subspecies of Owlbears, the smallest ones are pack hunters. The problem isn't with what we know is out there. The problem is that there is so much out there we don't know yet. That's a big part of why the Exploration House is so interested in these Patrols. ,
"Zee-h-oh-u" Modesty sounds it out slowly, making sure she has it and lights up at Zhou's mention of the Captains collection. "None, in fact are antiques" she says "it's his hobby, recreating weapons in the style of ancient Dwarven houses"
Zhou decides to respond to the Sergeant with a quick nod and a silent smile, a closer inspection might reveal that she has oriental eyes and high cheekbones. Slightly loosening her lean muscular physique, she waits for Alukilia and Ollezall to respond to her comments.
Ollezall turns to Zhou knowingly , quickly side glances at the Sgt then back at Zhou, and gives a slight nod to signify the message was received.
Still nursing a sore head , Ollezall cautiously chimes in, wary of the Sgt's backlash; "is there a store of healing potions The Guard have access to? I am short of gold to purchase potions or ingredients right now, but having 1 or 2 potions to hand in the party might mean the difference between success and failure. Uh, um... Of course I would be happy to replace them or take their cost out of my share when we settle our expedition.
"On the subject, could we also clarify how gold compensation, expenses and found treasure will be handled during the expedition? Otherwise I'm ready to head off"
"Yes, actually there are allowances for healing potions. These go more for the Patrols that are expected to engage the Raiders." she grins "We've got a Cleric and a lot more latitude to just 'run away'. We'll be fine. The cart's unloaded and Adair is ready to go home, we have some supplies that have already been loaded. Let's climb on and we'll talk."
Once under way Modesty starts up again "As Town Guard I get paid weekly, very weakly, but that's another story. Doing the job has to be more important to than the compensation, so anything found is divided between you guys and we're not supposed to have any opinion on how you do that."
She leans in, almost conspiratorially and continues "but as someone who's out there, with a regular group of friends, as often as we can manage, I can tell you a lot about how others are doing things though you can do things however you want. Coin is easy, everything else, gems, jewelry, art objects can be sold at local shops, I know a couple of good ones in the Scholars, and then that coin split as well. If there's something you particularly want, make the group an offer. If you can come up with an acceptable number, then it becomes that much coin and you get it as part of your share. If more than one person wants something we usually bid against each other within the group and use that to decide who wants it more. IOUs are enforceable and people use them if there's an especially big ticket item that one person in the group wants. Any dispute you can't solve yourself, a good resource is Judge Donella Folkor down at Town Hall, a few coins to cover court costs, you present your problem, she reaches a decision. Very fair, very honest. I should let you know that for this, where you're being hired by the town, anything where we can identify the owner has to be returned to them, but that's rare. Any questions?"
“Sounds fair to me. I have no need of weapons or armor... “. Cerlinde starts to say more, but then her voice goes quiet. She seems to be holding back, perhaps shy around the new group.
"This sounds fine to me. I do not have use for fancy weapons, and as long as I have functional armour and the protection of my emblem that is all I need. If everyone else is in agreement with what the sergeant suggested, should we appoint a scribe to keep record of the party coffers?"
A tall copper skinned elf, with a creamy light hair enters the parade grounds. He is wearing a leather armor that has surely seen a better times. On his neck hangs a strange talisman made of wood and tied with old vines. His clothes are plain, far from the exquisite robes worn by other elves, looking more like something a farmer would wear. Over his shoulder hangs a longbow, probably the most expensive looking piece of his possession. The bow is made of yew wood and is decorated with several carvings with a small bunch of feathers on its top.
Greetings, I am Cyrasil. I've been told you are planning an expedition to deal with those goblin attacks on the farm lands.
Nilvén proceeds to speak after a long period of silence. She would rather concentrate on the mission than wait for Alukillia to bless her with an answer.
"One last question, Sarge! Apart from raiding for loots, did any of the Goblins or Kobolds assault or slaughter someone?"
A gust of air sweeps her hair away from her shoulder when she eagerly inspects the new-comer. She wonders whether the party is careful enough to face deadly opponents or not, when her voice exposes some hidden concern.
"We must figure out how much danger they can pose, before we engage with some kind of confrontation that involves hostile actions."
Brin just rides along, listening to the others speak now. he is on his way, speculating on what is or what is not out there is of little interest, he will figure that out once he gets there.
You pass the last of the farms, through an area of active logging, then reach the edge of the forest. You begin unpacking the supplies that were loaded before you left, including rations for the 4 days, 10 torches each of you, 2 healing kits, bedrolls and alike.
"We have a report of one person missing, the daughter of one of the farmers, a Lighfoot Halfling. We're just not sure if it's related. Kobolds take prisoners, we believe to sell as slaves. The Goblins are only looking for meat. To be honest I'm not sure which would be worse. Let's all be careful. From here we just head north."
Let me know what place in the marching order you'd like, what you'll be doing, spells you'll be casting, skills you'll be trying in order to find anything out of the ordinary.
Owl passive perception 13, advantage on perception.
see through familiar eyes- Her own eyes go blind. She is practiced at doing this for a birds eye view to help with cartography.
Cerlinde walks in the middle of the group, her green and brown cloak blending in a bit with the forested surroundings, and her soft boots barely making a sound. When the surroundings seem to be getting a bit wild, she casts a spell.
As the group enters the wilderness, a tiny owl the size of a sparrow appears on her shoulder ((an elf owl- of course!)). It then circles the group overhead, but never is more than about 100’ from Cerlinde- looking for creatures, ambushes, or other things Cerlinde might want to know about.
she has a piece of parchment and a small book she is using as a writing tablet, and is often sketching and taking notes as the group walks. (cartography). Occasionally she stops for a few seconds- some may notice her eyes go white for a moment.
((Cyrasil prefers to be scout ahead of the party. Mainly utilizing his stealth, perception and survival skills to look for a possible ambush or other danger.))
If you hear a jay call ((thaumaturgy)), it means there's a danger ahead. Says he, before he splits from the main group.
Ollezall walks near the end of the group, but in between at least one other person. Ollezall has his shield raised but nothing in his free hand. The group can see an emblem on his shield of a skeletal hand holding a pair of scales. I notice Alukilia grumble something for a full minute and look at the ground. I say " the wilderness is not so bad. Nature is all about balance, I will make sure the scales are tipped in our favour to allow us to return home safely." *Ollezall smiles, but there is no bravado behind the smile; these are not the calm woods of the sanctuary*
While not actively looking for signs of danger, the group notice Ollezall is more alert then before; he is standing up to his full height, and his attention is in the present, not on one of the many mysteries of the universe.
@Cerlinde Through the Owl's eyes you notice 3 small areas nearby that look 'disturbed' in some way. It may not be visible at ground level but it's noticeable from above. One of those areas is directly in front of Alukilia. Another is in front of Cyrasil. The 3rd is further to the west.
