The other gladiators remain still. The moving gladiators skin cracks and brandishes it's spear and shield with the anticipation of combat.
Clayton, if you move AND attack, your attacks will be at disadvantage due to the pain - unless/until you get a heal of ANY amount, from ANY source. If you stand still and attack, no penalty.
OOC: Clarification question - the gladiator's skin cracks? Does that mean the stone cracks, revealing some sort of skin or something underneath? I'm afraid of attacking stone with my blades - not sure they would be effective (and maybe just break them?). This calls for something like a mace? Or an unarmed strike? Or, is hitting a stone gladiator with a blade okay?

Nothing more than narrative. It's old clay, as the gladiator moves, it peels and cracks like dry skin. No advantages or disadvantages mechanically.
(Wouldn't want to have to borrow Yasei's club-azashi again ;P)

Clayton, as the gladiator comes to life, it does not look in your direction, nor will it make any attacks against you. It recognizes that you are one with Shagambi. Shariel, on the other hand, is in deep trouble. Shagambi does not like Nangnang. How this plays out we shall see. Remember, the trickster gods that cohabit you all have grudges with one another, and this whole adventure will partly revolve around this narrative part of the overall story. Chult, Ubtao, and the trickster gods have a lot to do with the history of this land. There is much to come.
The gladiator is randomly selecting targets to attack. I rolled a 1, which is you, but it doesn't attack you - it's turn ends. No one is being skipped. 5ed is very unforgiving, and this adventure is no exception. I'm trying to make the encounters challenging, but having all four gladiators attack you at once would destroy you all.
Wincing a bit at the pain in his ankle, Clayton unhooks his crossbow (reducing his AC to 14) and fires toward the large creature, but not before using his Hexblade’s Curse on it. Attack: 26 Damage: 12 magic piercing damage. And that is a 19! Which is a Crit for an extra 9
Clayton unhooks his crossbow, if one could even call it that. It seems more akin to a hunting rifle. Clayton aims and let’s loose a blast into the chest of the creature.
Hearing Clayton's words, the gladiator halts, and drops the spear. It heads back to it's cell, and sits down. The other gladiators follow suit, and return to their cells.
There are four spears on the ground, now. The gladiators do not move again.

OOC: hmmmm, methinks next shrine we go to, only the applicable snake god for that shrine goes into the shrine!

Clayton! It raises it's spear to attack and realizes you are not a target and readjusts it's strategy.
CLAYTON, you're up.
OOC: Did you mean Clayton? Or is my turn skipped by some effect?

OOC: Right, was just wondering if the “Maldrek, you’re up” was a typo because Clayton is before him

It sure is! For fudge's sake...
I'm seriously the stupidest DM ever. Go ahead and take your turn haha.

Ok that's 21 damage. The gladiator stares at Clayton in confusion as Maldrek goes next. The gladiator lumbers towards Shariel.
Could Clayton also add, “Hey Gladiator, drop the spear!” To that as well? Might as well see if I have some sway.

There are four spears on the ground, now. The gladiators do not move again.
"Yoooooo, I'll admit that was awesome, Clayton. Good job. Bree get my dart." Maldrek says leaning over the bars to look into the arena.
Shariel can feel Nangnang protest greatly inside her stomach.
