You can go narratively stealthy, that's fine. Unless you run into the nook, nothing should happen. The mine is too large and not quiet enough to alert anyone just by walking carefully.

Yasei will slowly peak her head around to the entrance of the nook and look inside. What does she see?

There are 4 newt warriors, and 1 larger newt warlock all locked in worship. They appear to be worshiping a crude metal structure that looks like Imix. They don't notice you. The warlock is preparing a spell, and it's a big purple blob of energy above his head, his hands waving in concentration.

In the corner is a lizardman chained up to the wall. He appears to be prepared to be sacrificed once the spell is complete.

Nothing good could come from this situation, that's for sure.

The warbly, weirdness around her makes a sympathetic jump, as if eager.

Clayton moves his active Hex onto the Warlock with disadvantage on Charisma checks. He realizes that the spell may be nearing completion so he is going to act now. He should have advantage on his attack against it unless it can see him. Quick-drawing his pistol, he fires a shot. Eldritch Blast: 25 Damage: 19 force damage + 6 necrotic damage.

I believe a surprise round is in order. And looks like someone got a nat 20! Here's the lineup. Assuming Clayton shoots the warlock:

The spell has been disrupted in a bright flash of purple light.

OOC: That I did! Does that newt need a concentration check? Wait, nvm spell’s gone

Shariel nocks an arrow and fires at the crippled warlock.

Her mind latches to the bowstring and base of the arrow, hurling it forward, "I am the breaking hurricane..." she mutters.

The newt warlock is now dead. You will have four warriors to deal with once everyone gets their surprise round in.

OOC: Yasei doesn’t have a ranged attack. I’m not sure how far we are away from the four newts. I assume she can’t run that far and still squeak in a surprise attack?  I’m guessing not, but on some random chance that she can, here goes:

Attack 1a (katana): 21 with 6 slashing damage.

Attack 1b (wakizashi): 23 with 4 piercing damage.

I'd say you can. When you guys surprise attack, you don't literally wait for each of you to go, it all happens at once, like you guys ********ing a bunch of newts. Like you are. Right now.
