"May I look at that journal?"
As she asks she scrutinizes this journal
Investigation Check: 21
(OOC: She's proficient in both Investigation and Calligrapher's Tools so rolled advantage. Not looking for anything particular. She's just a snob xp)
Then she comments, "What poor penmanship. This would never pass in my mine of work."
She looks away from the book, "Well if those mushrooms are suspicious do you think we can go around them or perhaps just start attacking them to get an intiative?"
Tortimer: There are some references to locations, but none of them would likely be familiar to you. Mostly landmarks designating points to change direction or openings in one large pocket that lead into specific other ones.
(You all could definitely walk on by here if you wanted to – the mushroom on the road is just over the edge on the left side, but there's more than enough space for you all to walk past, single-file)
"We should just avoid them for now," Myles suggests. He looks pointedly at Sera. "We don't know if it's the mushrooms themselves or something in it or controlling them. Who knows how long it'll take us. The quicker we get out of here the better."
"Burning them would probably be best. But let us avoid them." Tortimer says as he begins to walk. "If we find a way out this direction we will probably have to clear them for the rest of the survivors."
"Fine... if we must pass by them. I do hate sneaking about," Sera says but at the same time is thinking of all the corporate espionage she has done in her past.
All of you make your way past the mushroom on the road, making sure to give it a wide berth, and continue down the road without issue.
The road continues a pace further and enters into a tight bend before opening up nearly fully. The caps of the mushrooms above and on the righthand side recede, revealing a huge view of the cavern. Despite being blacker than night, you see the sparkles on the ceiling again–and further out in front of you, straight ahead, you see the sparkles on what would be the ground as well. It's only as you continue out this way that you realize that the sound of waves that's echoed through the forest is a gigantic underground sea and the sparkles like stars on the ground ahead are reflections of the crystals above. It's difficult to tell, but the sea seems to stretch for miles out until it's so dark you can no longer tell what is and isn't there. As you look out and up, you also notice a concentration of distant lights centered over the sea.
Further ahead, off to the right, along the coastal cliffside stands a mansion; it's completely out of place. The architecture looks like something you'd expect to see on its own swathe of property outside of a major city on the Sword Coast and its lit up as though actively lived in. To the left and to the right are bell towers that tower over the rest of the home, but the bells themselves are still. There's stone wall that surrounds the house and a large metal gate that seems to be the entrance.
Off to the left, the road continues back into the forest, running off to who-knows-where.
"I agree," Myles replies to Satsuma's words. "The journal did mention something about 'horrors in that home'. Whether they were talking about this mansion or another place, we don't know."
You approach the house and find the gate to enter unlocked and slightly ajar. The courtyard is wide and flanked by more tall mushrooms, like those you've been walking through. There's a small path to the left that you wouldn't have any trouble walking down, marked by stones. Directly in front of you all is a large, ornate door–the entrance to the house. Just to the left of the door lies a body leaned up against the house. Sconces are lit out front and flicker near the door and other sources of light glow from inside through windows.
"There does seem to be a body at the door," Myles murmurs. He steps a bit closer to the house to see the body clearer. (Race, alive/dead, clothing, signs of traps on them).
Sera: You manage to focus pretty well on the front of the house, thanks to the lights shining on it. As far as you can tell, it just looks like a normal entrance to a home, without any unusual construction that could hide traps.
Myles:The body belonged to a dark elf, now dead for some time. Her clothing is in tact, but doesn't strike you as being related to any particular area of profession, though you can't be sure. Looking closely enough, you'd be able to see that what likely killed her was a wound to her abdomen, self-inflicted.
Tortimer:You draw your eyes across the windows that have lights in them and those that don't. As you watch, you don't notice any movement, but you do see through the windows at the very front on the first floor, that there is a large quantity of wooden debris cast around the room.
"It's another drow there," Myles says to the others. "Seems dead for a while, possibly from a self-inflicted wound." He looks at the mansion fully, taking in its size. (How many stories is it?)
Myles walks up and checks for traps as well before checking the door and getting a closer look at the body.

"How do you even attack a mushroom, where are its weak points, its organs, its joints, its arteries?", Satsuma muses.
"We should just avoid them for now," Myles suggests. He looks pointedly at Sera. "We don't know if it's the mushrooms themselves or something in it or controlling them. Who knows how long it'll take us. The quicker we get out of here the better."

"Well, that looks like our place." Tortimer says. "Should we go back and get the others and bring them up to this point?"
Satsuma thinks. "We don't know if it's safe for them yet. Let's investigate!"
"I agree," Myles replies to Satsuma's words. "The journal did mention something about 'horrors in that home'. Whether they were talking about this mansion or another place, we don't know."
Sera agrees with the group and says, "Yes we shall go. Being indoors must be better than this vile place. Let us be off."
Satsuma leads the way, on the lookout for trouble.

Sera comments, "Well that is most certainly ominous. Does anybody else see signs of a trap by the door? I am trying to get an eye on these things."
(OOC: I'm rolling perception or Investigation if either of those apply for finding any traps from a distance.)

Satsuma follows close behind Myles, hand on her shortsword's handle in case anything tries to jump out at them.
