PM flies over to the side of the coffin and peers in, curious and wanting a closer look. "...you think it is a portal to Mabar?" the dragon asks, curiously. "...and from the Mabar?"
The dragon leans in closely, enthralled by the motion and curious as to the how's and why's and repercussions of such a presence. "...how does one create such a rip? and how does one mend it?"
"A manifest zone is a place where Eberron is particularly close to another plane. Atur sits in a manifest zone to Mabar, which allows us power many of our rituals, but a portal is a different situation entirely. It allows transit, while most manifest zones do not do so, except for when the plane is coterminous, or particularly close to Eberron as a whole." Derin glances at PM. "It could serve as a portal, but it's nowhere near as stable as the sort you might more commonly find. Moving through it might rip you apart, or place you in a different location within Mabar each time, or deluge you in negative energy and kill you. And even if you did survive the journey, you would then be in Mabar, which would likely also kill you. I believe the main purpose of this one is to allow Mabaran energy to leak through and empower the creature resting here, provided that creature is Mabaran undead. In this case, the rip is innately unstable, maintained only by the runes on the coffin. Destroy the runes, and the rip will be unable to sustain itself. I don't know exactly how they made it in the first place."
"Just break the lid?" Robin asks, a bit mistrustful of anyone not of the group still. "Seems a bit trivial if you ask me..." She waits to see what happened with the tossing/dropping of the lid.
Jax throws the lid and it shatters on the ground, cracking into four pieces. The runes around the edge flare briefly, then go dark, and the pool of shadows inside the coffin abruptly shrinks in on itself and then vanishes. "Yes," Derin says simply. "Just break the lid. Oathbound Garash, are you now able to see us?" A small red symbol flares briefly on the wall, the same place that the symbol that healed you all before the fight was. "Excellent," Derin says with some satisfaction.
Drego: You follow the guards out, which they don't seem to have much of a problem with. Outside the vault, they start talking about the situation, discussing what might happen now, if the High Abactor will get personally involved, etc. After only a few minutes, you hear the stamp of feet as a group of twenty more guards arrive. The two outside move towards them and start explaining the situation to the captain of the newcomers.
Case looks to Derin, "Well, it seems that you have been honest with us. I am sure you understand that trust must be earned. We have been happy to help your organization with it's subterranean problem. Now, shall we go meet any other leaders necessary to clear up the issue of the dead bodies above. Then we will be on our way I believe, to get some rest and hopefully catch a train.....though any information about why these malevolent foes are interested in us would be valuable."

What's the difference between a Wizard and a Sorcerer? Class.
Pieste Mor jumps down into the casket proper and starts nosing and poking around. He doesn't really expect to be able to detect anything or such, but he's still the curious nose poking in sort...
"I am sorry for doubting you." Robin says with a slight nod to Derin. "I am sure you understand this situation was fraught with enough confusion that mistrust was, and frankly is still, an issue here. I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt for now, and hope relations between us continue to improve."
“I am glad to see I was right about Derek,”Jax says to PM when he returns to Jax’s pack.
”It would be good to make sure your bosses are okay with the bodies we left in the closet. But, tell me, what is going on? Why are they trying to kill us? Is there a way to find out?”
Drego keeps his mouth shut, but holsters his crossbow, falling in step behind the guards and keeping Stitch close. As Robin starts her apology he cuts his eyes in her direction and then speaks up 'Fraught with confusion is a nice way to describe being hunted, ambushed and nearly killed - but sure, I suppose a little benefit of the doubt couldn't hurt.'
As the twenty additional guards show up Drego visibly tenses again, ready to spring back into action until their escorts step forward to smooth things over.
Derin offers the group a faint, wry smile. "And I'm sure you understand that from our end, it initially looked quite a lot like you all attacked a group of our guards and tried to blame it on the Order to get out of the blame." he says dryly. "I would say the Order is certainly going to some lengths to try and keep their enemies from allying with one another. No doubt they thought that even if you did defeat the 'guards' there to kill you, there was a high chance of the Monastery assuming you killed real Seekers and taking care of their probelm for them, with real guards and the Blood of Vol bearing whatever the cost of subduing you was." Derin shrugs. "Fortunately, that didn't happen. Anyway, I'll get you all to quarters for resting and arrange for everyone who needs to know about this to do so. I suspect the High Abactor will want to meet with you this evening, but there's plenty of time for you all to recover in the meantime."
OOC quick time check since it's been a while: It's currently about midmorning, your train leaves tomorrow evening. I don't have the limit of 1 LR every 24 hours, I think it's dumb, if you're willing to take the time cost of a LR, you should be able to do so whenever you want. So you can definitely LR now if you want.
Jax could use a short rest for sure, and will take early watch shifts for a long rest if the others want. He hopes to regain his strength, and looks at his hands a lot, thinking.
Drego is fine with a long rest - and in fact would insist after seekin Stitch hurt earlier (even knowing he healed) he want to give the little gobbo a breather. He will gladly take point on watch, setting alarm around any room and working to keep them all in the same space together for safety.
Derin shows you to a series of rooms within the Monastery that are quite comfortable, they look like they're probably guest rooms for people who are visiting on diplomatic business or whatever.
Assuming there is nothing else you guys want to do during the rest (and do feel free to let me know/do it if there is), the LR passes quietly, and you can all LR and level up!
PM:
You receive several sendings from your handler Farsheshax upon waking up after your rest (I originally wrote this as a letter and then checked notes, sorry for the weird format):
Operative Mor,
We have reason to believe the Order of the Emerald Claw is working towards a potentially concerning ritual within Atur. As you are already in place there and have begun work against the Order, you and your current traveling companions are well-suited to finish handling the issue. The High Abactor will be making a request for your assistance. You are to accept it and investigate the precise doings of your targets while eliminating them.
-Farseshax of the Chamber
Robin:
When you wake up after your rest, you receive a sending from your mentor with the drop point for this month, a small chapel off in the eastern wing of the Crimson Monastery, below a front row chair. You can drop your report off any time before you leave Atur.
After your rest, Jax feels much stronger (Str reduction is gone), and you can all gather to do anything you'd like to do before Derin comes by to update you on how things have progressed while you are resting.
"...Jaxium... I have listened to the fates and stars and this I know..." Péiste Mór says locking eyes with his friend to ensure he has his attention. "...the High Abactor is an ally, at least for now... they are going to make an ask of us, and we must accept... their goal runs parallel to ours right now..."
"...the Order of the Emerald Claw is working towards a cataclysmic ritual with Atur and it is upon us to stop it... the High Abactor's ask will put is on this path and cement our relationship with them for future needs... can you help assure that the group helps the High Abactor??"
Robin spends some time that night working with her spellbook, having come to some conclusions about some spells recently she wishes to work on.
The next morning she is ready and up when the others start to gather. Moving to the drop-point, she leaves her latest document for pick up, then would be ready to move out.
