From the smell of the area, though not exactly pleasant, Speedwell doesn't believe that the fog is toxic.
RE: the generous DM on rolls for climbing: I'll do you one better and remind you that "there appear to be hand or food grips carved into each pillar," which might help ;)
As he looks around, he sees a great balloon made of patchwork material. It spins out of control as though punctured, causing the wicker basket that hangs from it to swing wildly. The balloon plunges out of sight, disappearing into the fog approximately a mile away, near the Tower that you can see from your current perch.
“We won’t get far from here unless we climb down. Autumnleaf will tell us what she can see while we climb, this is quite a drop. I suppose there must be something at the other end of these causeways, yes? No one builds a bridge to go nowhere.”
Autumnleafshrugs and nods at that, fluttering over the edge and shooting down towards the ground to look around the base while the others make their way down.

((I'm going to assume this means everyone is climbing down...))
Autumnleaf flies down ahead of the others as they begin the climb down, the handholds and mushrooms giving everyone enough grip to work their way down slowly and safely. At the bottom tangled mangroves grow out of pools of rippling water, half hidden by the thick fog, and purple mushrooms cling to rotting logs and stumps scattered throughout the marsh. Crickets that glow like fireflies chirp serenely before they’re snatched out of the air by the tongues of hungry frogs. And just as Autumnleaf reaches the fog a giant crane stretches its wings and leaps into the air, flying northwards. As the rest of you set your feet on the ground you find it less solid than you'd prefer as the sticky mud squelches beneath your feet.
No more than a minute after reaching the ground, you hear coming from the west, several voices joined in a marching song. The singing grows louder as six bipedal rabbits wearing clothing emerge from the fog. Two of them tug at the reins of a giant snail, and the others carry clubs and slings.
With sticks and stones, we’ll break your nose; We’ll beat you blind and steal your clothes. But none among us can compare To one wily, swift, and stand-up hare— Scarf that’s glorious, thief notorious, His deeds are truly meritorious!
With a wink and a grin, he’ll show his cunning; A flash of his scarf, he’ll take off running. Quick as a bolt, his long scarf trailing, Gasping, grasping, you’ll end up flailing. You’ll pout, you’ll moan, you’ll huff, you’ll sneer; Thanks to Agdon Longscarf, brigand prince of Prismeer!

I know normally it would be group stealth vs passive perception, but I'm going to make an active roll here b/c this is from the adventure:
As the last character reaches the marshy ground, a giant crane previously hidden by the fog emerges and takes flight. The giant crane poses no threat, but its sudden movement alerts a band of brigands lurking nearby.
So they have an idea someone, or something, is nearby, and aren't simply passing by singing. I'll just do a single check for the group instead of a group check vs a group check. The DC for this will be 15, b/c that's the number that half our group rolled (or higher).
Perception: 11...edit - 😞
As they approach the group suddenly stops in the fog and looks around as you all suddenly freeze, attempting to hide in the fog. The one in the front chuckles to herself and says, "Well don't try to hide! Come on out! My name is Jebbek and I represent Agdon Longscarf. Now, if you will... This is a robbery. If you resist, we’ll beat you black and blue. But I'm not looking for money or treasure. No no. Agdon is collecting memories. Surrender the feeling of delight they remember from when you were given the best gift you ever received." Jebbek then produces a stoppered gourd with a golden stopper and holds it out indicating that you should touch the stopper.
Speedwell steps up between the rest of the party and the brigands, and he says, “I don’t like bullies. You do know you can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar, right?”
Inif eyes Jebbek with disgust, "Stealing is opposition to mercy and I will not abide it. If you deliver violence as freely as you deliver threats, I'll feel no remorse in balancing your energy."
Inif grips his quarterstaff and eyes the group menacingly. "Zyblina is Queen of Prismeer. We do not acknowledge this 'brigand prince'."
Autumnleaf, hearing what Jebbek says, flies up towards him. She gives the bottle a look, then flies around him, inspecting him. Then she draws herself up, her eyes darkening and her presence growing heavier. "You and your thievish lot are not welcome here. We will not give you what you seek, now flee in fear."
Using Fey Presence to attempt and scare them off. All of them, barring the one at the furthest point North on the map.
Fey Presence
Once per short rest, as an action, you can cause each creature in a 10-ft. cube from you to make a WIS saving throw (DC 13) or become charmed or frightened by you (your choice) until the end of your next turn.

But seeing the others around them begin to back up, nearly dropping their weapons, Jebbek pauses and says, suddenly losing confidence, "Ah... well I see you're not from around here... Well then, um.. keep on. Stay out of the mud. Let's go guys, Agdon is waiting for us." She then attempts to save some face and rally her troops as they skip away, a bit faster than how they approached. And just as they fade into the fog heading northwards you begin to hear their song again, though this time their voices are not nearly as strong or sure of themselves
Autumnleafwatches them go with narrowed eyes, then huffs, adjusting the faux wings on her front again."The nerve of them, trying to steal good feelings and memories like that. Good memories should be cherished by the rightful rememberer, not bottled, that rat."
Inif turns to his companions, "Well, that tower and balloon seem interesting. But I wonder... Speedwell, surely you can track the brigands and their snail? If we follow them, we'll learn a safe path through the land and learn where this 'brigand prince' Agdon resides. If the queen is 'dormant' and this brigand has seized control, surely we'll need to face him soon enough. Best to learn all we can."
"Perhaps," Speedwell responds. "But, I'm not sure I want to hop right into the leader of the brigands that just tried to rob us. I'm thinking that whoever was in that balloon might actually be in need of some help. It might do us some good to make a friend here."
Autumnleafshakes her head."I wish to find this thieving Prince by following where those brigands went, but I fear a life could be on the line, so the balloon is likely more urgent."
