Myk smiles, crosses his arms, and leans back in his chair as he observes and listens to the awkward exchange between Hurren and Amelia. "Well hello there, Hurren, nice to see you. I've just met Amelia here as well. She's brand new in Haven, but seems awfully anxious to escape. Perhaps you could take her around the town, show her it's not so terrible a place to stay for a while."
Myk then addresses Amelia again, "My young friend, I'm afraid it is not within my power to simply send people off of Haven on a whim. While there are others investigating this possibility, none possess that power, or at least not any average, material plane-dwelling types. It remains to be seen if any higher beings have taken an interest in our humble demiplane that might offer a more direct route. For those few that I've helped, it has been at significant personal cost to me, and I'm not speaking of coin. The need would have to be immense, with the purpose noble and pure for me to consider it. In addition to all of that, I would require certain supplies, of which I currently have none. They are exceedingly rare in this plane, as far as the Exploration House has been able to determine. So at this point, I have to apologize, for I can't help you with your desired escape. For things with which I can be of assistance, I am at your service."
He returns his gaze to Hurren, with a twinkle in his eye, and says, "Now Hurren, did you have some business you'd like to take care of before you and your new friend head out to enjoy this lovely day together?"
Amelia looks at Myk, her callous, frustrated attitude dissolved, leaving in its place only distress. "So--what, I'm just stuck here? Indefinitely? For the rest of my blasted life? What happens to my unfinished business in Faerun?"
Myk smiles patiently. "Amelia, I think you will discover that if your need of something is great enough, you will find your way to it, and usually just when you need it. You can actively work toward it, and that will certainly help, but the multiverse will ultimately decide when it will arrive. Enjoy your life in the meantime, learn and grow. Just my two coppers, I am an old man and have seen a great deal, but you can choose to do with my words what you will. As I said, I'll be here when things fall into place for you."
Hurren observes this exchange quietly and, he hopes, inobtrusively. "Oh," he responds to Myk in Common, "it was nothing of any consequence. I recently heard a rumor in the temple that some mystic artisans have managed to capture and contain effects from the Weave not only into physical objects, but into designs incorporated into the flesh of living beings. I believe humans call them 'tattoos'. (An oddly diminutive name for such a powerful creation, don't you think?) I was just wondering if you knew of any practitioners of this branch of the mystic arts here in Haven. I did recently meet an artist during that fiasco at the Masquerade, but it didn't seem to me that her offerings were magical, unless you know otherwise."
He glances again at Amelia, empathizing at her disorientation and loss, wondering if and how he can help her distress.
Myk notes Amelia's crestfallen demeanour. "If at some point you wish to speak further about your situation, I'll be here. I imagine you probably haven't found me to be terribly helpful today, but perhaps some day I can be of some use to you. At least let me refer you to the Exploration House."
To Hurren, Myk responds, "I have heard of such magics, but I'm not aware of anyone currently wielding them here in Haven. I believe your friend Skrach's new companion from the party is a good lead, or at least would know other tattoo artists plying their trade. Surprised I'm aware of your little group's exploits? The Irregulars are quite the story around town. I'll also keep my apprentices on the lookout for these tattoos."
Amelia sighs. "There's nothing to speak of. I'm fairly confident you can't help me with what I left behind, so I've got no reason to discuss it. In the meantime, I was offered something on the house at the Copper Dragon, so I'm going to go claim it. It's been a pleasure."
With that, the half-elf turns on her heel and heads back the way she came.
Watching Amelia leave the shoppe, Hurren remarks, "That was... interesting. I hope she is able to make peace with her situation. Anyways, thanks, Myk, and let me know if you hear anything."
The monk then heads off to see if he can find out where Skrach's friend... Zola? Zazu? Zippy? Anyway, where she might be staying in Haven.
Amelia strides into the Copper Dragon, walking back up to the counter, to this Theran. “So,” she says, “looks like Haven’s my new home for the time being.”
"There are worse places to be stranded" Theran says "Things have been a slow lately since they stopped the Wilderness Patrols. From what I hear, the raids have stopped as well. Nobody is sure of what this means. Either the Kobolds have backed off, or they're preparing for an all out assault. We'll see. In the mean time, if you need anything, let me know"
Amelia just sighs. "Being stranded any place not on Faerun is pretty bad for me. Speaking of, I'm guessing there are people from other worlds here--would I be correct in that assessment?"
Amelia strides into the Copper Dragon, walking back up to the counter, to this Theran. “So,” she says, “looks like Haven’s my new home for the time being.”
"Whatever she's having, on me" a voice says from behind you "Couldn't help overhearing. Sounds like you and i got here by the same road. The name's Malichi" and he drops an innocuous phrase that in thieve's cant means 'This is a good place to hide out' just to see if you recognize it.
When you turn to look you may be startled. Blood red skin, large rams horns on the sides of his head, eyes black from lid to lid, a tail and an oddly disarming grin. He's short and slight and seems pretty friendly
Amelia doesn't bat an eye at the slim tiefling who enters. She's not scared of the infernal. "A pleasure, Malichi," she responds. "I'm Amelia." Then, in Thieves' Cant, she says, "I'll remember that if I ever need to hide."
"A beautiful name for a beautiful lady" Malichi says with a bow "Amelia always makes me think of flowers. I'm just coming off a job, was a very strange job, mostly legit and pretty lucrative"
Malichi orders the Halfling Butterbeer and asks Theran about a room. The answers she gives don't warrant the look of concern and puzzlement on Malichi's face "Yes we have rooms", "Of course we would rent to you", "Thirty days? Certainly, we would be pleased to have you as a guest here". Malichi pays for the room and the butterbeer and includes sizable tip. She gives him a key and a smile as says "Any mail or messages you receive while you're here will be in that box #2 behind the bar. Your room is up the stairs, first door on the left. Enjoy your stay with us"
For long moments Malichi stares at the key, his black eyes unreadable "Never had a place where I could 'receive mail' before" he says to himself. Then the grin snaps back onto his face as he looks at Amelia "I think I could really get to like it here"
"My apologies Amelia" Malichi says, suddenly becoming serious "It was never my intent to offend. As a simple street performer I have found a little innocent flattery or flirtation can boost someone's mood and brighten their day. I do understand that this is not appreciated by everyone. I will endeavor to be more circumspect" he tells you "And I really don't know what awaits me in this odd little place, but Lady Luck, the Goddess Tymora herself watches over me always" the wide smile (mostly grin, a little bit smirk) snaps back into place "There is no doubt in my mind that it'll be great. If you will excuse me I'm going to go have a look at my room. I'm going to 'put some things away'" he says, sounding very pleased with the idea. He asks Theran if he can run a tab and seems genuinely puzzled when she answers in the affirmative as if it were no big deal " My offer stands. Whatever you would like, on me. Think of it as no more than the generosity that comes with being flush. Around dusk I plan to head to the neighborhood the locals refer to as "the Shadows". A rougher area but it looks like a good place to do 'business'. If you would like to accompany me I could show you what little I know of the place"
"Well, unlike you, I've got nobody watching over me." It's not quite true, but she certainly doesn't have a goddess watching. "At any rate, Theran's already offered me something on the house, so I appreciate your offer, but it's unnecessary." Amelia pauses to consider his second offer. "What...sort of business?"
Syd Wartnose, returning from his assignment for Cassandra, now seeks to spend some of that hard-earned cash. He does have an extra greatsword which he will take to the local weapon shop to see if he can sell it for anything.
Next he will begin searching for the Greasy Weasel tavern, and inquire within about the rumored fight club.
(@Syd_Wartnose, I'll pick this up with you this evening, unless @Potaido_ wants to do so. He ran a snappy fight club encounter in a previous adventure. Been swamped with inane work stuff, unfortunately. As for the sale, you can make a truly mundane transaction to sell your greatsword for 25 gp (PHB standard), or you can attempt to haggle for a higher price with some rolls.)
Amelia crosses her arms. "Okay. So, first rule of mixed company? 'Female person' is not a thing people say. My name's Amelia. A pleasure."
Myk smiles, crosses his arms, and leans back in his chair as he observes and listens to the awkward exchange between Hurren and Amelia. "Well hello there, Hurren, nice to see you. This seems to do little to comfort Amelia. She looks like her world's collapsed to pieces around her. Which, granted, it has.
She shakes her head, as if to clear her mind. "Fine," she says. "Guess I'll just make the best of this in the meantime."
Hurren observes this exchange quietly and, he hopes, inobtrusively. "Oh," he responds to Myk in Common, "it was nothing of any consequence. Amelia looks highly unamused when he calls her beautiful. "Don't do that," she deadpans.
When he remarks that he could get to like it here, she nods. "That makes one of us."
