A look of mild disgust breaches Stena's currently neutrally unpleasant attitude on the explanation of what is happening in the pool but she doesn't comment.
((Do we still have the gems we found on the goblins? Do we need anything? Probably depends on if we agree to help or not.))
Galingal raised an eyebrow when Shuushar mentioned the activity at the pool had something to do with mating. Reproduction was rare among the shadar-kai. The Queen frowned upon it so this was unusual.
When they make it to the square, Galingal looks at the two buildings Shuushar points out.
<Think Beer Room first> Galingal spore-nets.
(OOC - they didn't trade the gems before, but not sure who was carrying them and whether the KT would have gotten a hold of them)
((If your captors took them off of you, you would have been able to regain them when Ploopp's folks liberated you.))
Shuushar nods when it seems there's agreement, and leads you to The Beer Room. <No fighting in The Beer Room... if things haven't changed, anyway. No fighting, just to be safe.>
The Beer Room is one of the larger and more well constructed buildings, which as you enter past the façade of ramshackle detritus, realize that it's because it takes up the interior of the hull of a ship. How a ship came to be on its side in the middle of Sloobludop, you aren't sure, but the shape is unmistakable.
The Room is quite busy, the vast majority of the patrons being kuo-toa, and true to Shuushar's warning, there doesn't seem to be the undercurrent of animosity that there is in the streets. The air smells of the wet musty odor you've come to associate with kuo-toa, as well as some more pungent aromas. The interior, much like the rest of the city, is dim at the most, the KTs seemingly unbothered by darkness, but a few glowing bladders of fungi or other luminous materials cast a blue-green glow.
In addition to the KTs, most of which are milling about, there are a few tables that seem to be largely provided for the use of non-KT patrons. At one sits a group of drow, their leader gives Sarith a long look, while your companion tries hard to act like he didn't notice them. There's a group of duergar, seated as far from the drow as they can manage, a pair of shark-like fellows some of you may recognize as sahuagin, and a bulky figured seated with their back to you, hunched over their table. You notice they are sitting on a barrel, rather than a chair, and their height probably tops 8 feet. In a dark corner sits a figure shrouded in a hooded robe.
There is a very large kuo-toa behind the bar, his fishy eyes not quite looking in the same direction, and his scales a bit dull and patchy in places. "Jiri!", he calls out as you walk in.
<That's Adpampoot, he calls everyone that. Shall we get a table?>

Galingal walks to an empty table, keeping an eye on the hooded figure in the corner and the large figure seated on the barrel, trying to notice any details about them that might reveal more about their identies.
Perception: 14
<Will they be a problem?> Galingal spore-thinks to Sarith, indicating the drow.
Once seated, he looks around the tavern a little more.
<Shuushar, do they have private rooms here? Somewhere we can rest and plan?>
It's hard to make out any features of the hooded figure, but a long, gaunt pale hand with only four long fingers reaches out to place a long pipe in a holder on the table. Galingal has more luck with the big figure, he pegs her as a half-ogre, the orc-ogre version he's encountered before as they are often used as shock troops by larger orcish forces. The ogrillon, as such a combination is called, have some of the power of their ogre parent, without the same stupidity and laziness. He's certain that the Beer Room patron's other parent was not an orc, though it's a bit hard to tell what her ancestry might be. She's reading a book, and doesn't look up as the party filters past to their table.
<Maybe. Suppose I should be ready with some sort of story if they ask... fork. I think if they were Ilvara's they'd have reacted to us more though.>
<No, no private rooms here. Just the Beer Room. Can eat and drink and sleep here. No other rooms... well kitchen, but they probably don't want us back there.>
It seems that anything that wasn't needed for structural support (and perhaps some that were) was knocked out to clear the space for the common room. As Shuushar says, it seems that it's an all purpose room, and not much of a place for privacy.
Stena scans the room as they enter. She her gaze stops on the Drow getting a head count and assessing their gear. Soldiers, traders or something else? She isn't shy about her appraisal. She then does the same for the duergar and then the rest of the non-KTs there.
The drow are a group of four, three of whom are regular grunts like Sarith, with a leader who is outfitted similarly to Shoor and Jorlan, and would probably be a drow elite warrior. Perhaps just passing through, or perhaps a drow contingent stationed in Sloobludop as a liason with the KTs? The leader's eyes narrow in consideration and he meets your gaze.
The duergar trio seems to not be a cohesive group, one seems to be talking to the other two. His eyes meet yours, but slide off and he makes a sour face. The other two sitting across from him look over to see what took his attention, and spit in your direction before turning back to their drinks and conversation.
The sharky fellows (would Stena have spend enough time along the coast to be familiar with sahuagin?) seem to be keeping mostly to themselves, as is the hooded figure ensconced in the dark booth, and the massive ogre-blood engrossed in her book.
Walking past, Stena notes that it is in Common, but it's hard to tell if it is fiction or a historical account. Something about dragons and castles.

Thom would've responded to Shuushar <they... are mating? Well... different strokes for different folks, yeah?> and he grins wide and laughs in the link if that's possible. He doesn't really ask any questions specifically about it, but he's quite surprised that this is some type of reproductive thing.
He thinks about it for a minute and changes his mind. He would actually ask <Shuushar, what does the winner get? The offspring? How do they know who won?>Thom almost wishes he didn't ask all of the questions but he can't take... er, think them back now! He watches in amusement a little while longer and follows the party away from the display.
Thom would agree to head to the Beer Room first - he would take in his surroundings as he entered the place, instinctively looking around for any immediate dangers, if anyone might be looking at us in any aggressive manner. He doesn't care to scan for details about the specifics and details of the creatures other than KT that are in here, but more of an overall spidy sense danger check. Perception 24
Other than that, he would not look or engage in any of the groups of folks that are enjoying the establishment and would say to the group <Yeah let's get a table and wait for Ploopp. He did say a few hours?>
<Wait Shuushar, did you say everyone just sleeps here? How many people usually sleep in here, yeah?>
Thom waits to see if the others 'order' anything, but more waiting to see just how this establishment works, if someone will come and serve us like he was once used to. He still does not make eye contact with any of the patrons around.
He sends back to Stena <Yeah, seems like a mess just waiting to happen.>and he waits for the others to see if they're good with waiting here for Ploopp.
He would send to the others jokingly <do you think they have beer here?!> but Thom currently doesn't know how they're going to pay for anything. <Maybe we can put it on Ploopp's tab?>.
due to my slow pace, I will say that Thom will relay all of the information he gets about dangers in the Beer Room with that natural 20 to everyone else via the spore link.
Shuushar gives a pained expression. <It's a whole system... eggs get brought to the pools and placed in a basket in the middle, males have to jump and time it right... Don't know who 'wins', kuo-toa don't know who they were spawned from. Doesn't stop some from trying to rig or figure out the system though...>
Thom notices everything that Stena does above, but further sees the hooded figure has what he initially took to be a grey beard... until part of it twitched, like a tentacle of some sort.
Additionally, he catches a glimpse of a good sized something, pale and exoskeleton-y lurking in the 'rafters' above. There are bits of netting and fabric strung across the interior, giving the sense of a ceiling, what he sees is up past that.
<Yes, Archpriest Plooppoopeen said a couple hours.>, Derendil says, looking around. <Shuushar, do they serve food here?>
<Yay, food!>, cheers Stool.
<Yes, they serve food too.>, responds Shuushar. <Not everyone sleeps here, just those who want to, or who fall asleep here. Most folk have their own homes, but sometimes don't make it there before sleep finds them. Those three are sleeping here right now.>
He points at a trio of kuo-toa who are standing up, eyes wide open, mouths agape. One of them is swaying slightly, another is walking in tight circles, and the third trips over an empty shell mug on the ground and continues trying to walk while on his side. Odd behavior aside, there is nothing you can discern to tell that they are asleep or awake. And it's entirely possible the odd behavior is due to drink rather than sleep.
<So are we getting anything? I'm hungry too, we're gonna stand out if we don't get anything, but can we afford it?>,Lex asks.
<If he wants our bloody help, least he can do is pay for our food and drink>, grumbles Buppido.
<Do they do tabs here, Shuushar?>, asks Sarith.
<No... but Adpampoot will take anything of value in trade.>

When it’s revealed that the jumping Kuo Toa are mating or spawning, Lia’s mouth pulls an ‘eww!’ shape her eyes go wide in shock but she can’t look away, until she eventually, pointedly, looks away!..
She wanders onward with the others to the bar, and sits with the group, keeping an eye out, around them, like the rest of the party are.
<Yes, if Ploopp will be here in a bit, let’s see if we can start a tab?…>.
Aside from that she tries to keep a low profile and keep an eye out for trouble.
Lia is particularly interested in the sounds of this place, if it has any kind of rhythm, or if the sounds are generally cordial, or menacing or jovial. Whether it’s quiet and subdued, or raucous!
Depending on the soundscape she might not be able to help herself from letting her foot tap quietly on the floor, or she might even start to hum. Hopefully emanating a kind of aura of pleasant geniality from their table.
Lia might even cradle her lyre in one arm and maybe give it a general strum while trying to gauge the appetite of the room for a little music…
General insight check to ‘read’ the room(?): 6
Hmm… slightly unsure, she refrains from bursting into song… for now… although despite the strange circumstances and clientele, she does seem to relax a little, seeming more at home here than in the tunnels.
Stena squints back over at the tentacle having person in the corner but as long as they stay away she isn't that interested. The thing up in rafters is of more concern to her. She tries to get a glimpse of it to identify what it could be.
Nature: 9
<What type of food do they have here?>
She eyes what others are eating in the room with suspicion.
((Do we have anything of lower value to trade while we wait for the tab? Stena doesn't have much extra.))
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Thom responds to Shuushar <well well well... very interesting way of reproducing, yeah?>
<Say, Shuushar, why don't you give it a go? It seems like a good day to be a daddy, yeah?!>
Thom eggs on Shuushar to try and fertilize one of the eggs in the middle of the pool. This moment kind of takes his mind away from missing home.
Thom wouldn't really recognize the folk down here other than what he's seen of drow and druegar while he's been down here. He's never seen one of those 'sharky fellows' either. Thom is intrigued by the KT's sleeping while standing up. He smiles and thinks to Shuushar <Well that must be convenient, yeah? Thanks for the information mate. Perhaps we'll get some shut eye here after Ploopp gives us the downlow, yeah?>
Thom is the same as Stena, he doesn't bother too much with the tentacle person... nothing really new there considering where we are.
After a minute, Thom sees the thing in the rafters. That definitely gets his attention.
<Mates, anyone know what in the blazes THAT is?!>
Thom's nature check to see if he knows what's in the rafters: 2 (how big is this thing also?)
Thom gets out his daggers and says to Shuushar and everyone <well, I suppose I don't really need all these knifes, perhaps this Adpampoot would take 'em in trade for some food and drinks?>
Shuushar whirls on Thom. <I will not. Feel free to try YOUR luck.>
He pushes past Thom, bumping shoulders with him... well, his shoulder bumps into Thom's chest, but it's the closest any of you have seen to Shuushar getting angry or violent.
He eases up a bit as you approach the Beer Room, but just being in the town seems to have him on edge.
Thom and Stena aren't able to get a clear enough visual on whatever the pale being above is, so aren't quite sure what it is. It's about person sized, though, and they caught the flashes of pale chitinous legs.
<THAT is why there's no fighting in the Beer Room. Cause a ruckus, up you go. And you don't come back down.>, Shuushar gives a bit of a shiver, but avoids looking up, and settles a bit.
<Food is whatever people bring Adpampoot in trade, or is sold at market. Fungus, dead stuff from the Darklake. He'd probably take knives, if they're good quality.>
<I won a fair few wagers with Plooppy's pals, I don't get the sense they're much used to gambling. I'd rather that we get him to foot the bill, but if they want to collect before he shows up, I've got us covered.>, Jimjar remarks. <Though if he'll take anything we aren't needing, can do it in trade, and save the more spendable stuff for when we need it.>
Looking at those tables who have ordered food, it does seem to be a mixture of the fungal fare you've become somewhat accustomed to, as well as fish, crustaceans, insects, and some less readily identifiable creatures.
A KT in grubby apron stops by. "Shuushar? Sea Mother's Claws, thought you were dead! Friends of yours, eh? Round for the table then? Wanting food?"
"Not dead. Just... wandering. No.. no beer for me, but the others might want some. A fungus platter to share...", Shuushar pauses and sends through the link... <Are you wanting to eat meat?>
<YES PLEASE!>Stool and Derendil send in unison.
"And a sampler platter of whatever is available."
The server nods and darts away, returning shortly with a large vessel that the place on your table, a bit of pale grey liquid sloshing over the side. A second server plunks down a bunch of mugs carved of zurhkwood, and the two depart, before returning with a platter of pan fried fungus and another of assorted meats variously boiled, seared, braised and fried. Shuushar is brought a mug of water, though Galingal notices him eyeing the pitcher.
Perhaps a bit apprehensive at first, it doesn't smell all that bad, and it has been a long time since you've had a hot meal, sitting at a table, with a mug of beverage in hand...
Derendil ends up doing the honors of pouring for the table, largely because he poured for himself and then others thrust mugs at him...
Jimjar raises his mug and looks around at all of you. "Well... we've come a long way, haven't we? Should have placed a bet with some of the guards that we'd escape! Though... that'd have made them suspicious... and I don't know how I would collect..."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Galingal looks from the beer to Shuushar and almost smiles.
He does take a look up into the rafters when the others point out what's up there. Shuushar's words of caution about it makes him wonder if they could make use of whatever it is.
Perception to see if he can get a better look than the others did: 22
<Large spider? Giant crab?> Galingal spore-thinks. Then he pauses for a few moments before continuing. <The others will have homes in the village, yes? It might be safer to spend the night in one of their homes than here.>
He turns his gaze back to the drow for a moment and then the other non-KTs.

((It feels like we are in the Cantina!))
((The KanTina.))
<YES PLEASE!> Stool and Derendil send in unison.
(KanTuna? Is that anything?)
