Sweeps gives a polite nod to Clara and collapses against a wall across from Sylvio. “Thank you for letting us rest here. I think we may have stopped the curse, but I fear our work is not yet done. But I am glad to see you are feeling better.”Energy spent, Sweeps closes his eyes and catches his brief as the others share their story.
Clare Morris is visibly confused as Gabriel, Sunny and Sweeps speak. It takes her a moment to understand their meaning but when she finally does a sad smile form upon her lips. Nothing would bring her boy back, she knew as much. Nothing would change what happened. But there was relief to be found in the fact that no one would need to life with the kind of pain she carried. There was satisfaction in knowing that whatever took Sammy was also taken.
“Didn’t wake up feeling that well to be honest, but some minutes back I suddenly felt my strength get back and I decided to cook a little. Clean the house, this kind of thing.” She said getting some hot water and clean sheets. You are quite sure that the sudden improvement on her condition was caused by the solving of the puzzle box. “You mentioned the work is not done?” She asked Sweeps. “Does this mean you still need to get back at the bastard who started the curse? You know who did that?” Anger is sensible on her voice. Anger not towards you but at the thought of the individual that was ultimately responsible for the death of her son. “If you know, you have to tell me. Robb can speak with the boys, I mean, his friends at the docks. You wouldn’t have less than six or seven men ready to help with any beating. They could even speak with someone soldiers of the watch and the guard. They know folk half-decent working there.”
Notes: Feel free to take a short rest and clean your wounds with hot water and towels. As a reminder, Sunny and Amadi have not yet shared their thoughts on what could be be behind the box. Clare seems very eager to have her husband and his friends beating whoever was behind the box and you don't need a Insight check to notice as much and understand why. In case of doubt feel free to ask in the OOC chat.

Sunny, very happy to see the hot water and towels, makes use of them while she rests and remains mostly silent. She understands the sentiment, though not fully because she didn't have her own children, but what could come of an angry mob of men going after another. How should they proceed? Talk to the Captain that hired them? Seek the captain of the ship again, would be they able to help? Would the nobles continue to pursue them as the offenders? This life away from home was so complex. She ponders silently, not having anything helpful to add for now and rests.
As they walked back to Clare's home Amadi returned back to his normal size. Upon returning to Robb and Clare’s home he is initially quiet, mulling over in his mind who may behind the curse.
"My thanks to you Clare for your hospitality. You have been very helpful despite your loss. You are a gem in a hard world."
Amadi cleans his wounds and begins to feel better.
"We still do not know who is behind these attacks but I fear they were against the city, perhaps as a whole. A curse set loose that would eventually destroy the whole city or weaken it substantially. There are few powers that would try such a thing. While there are always cults and the like operating, hidden within the shadow world of the city outside forces may also seek to cause problems. I fear a group such as the Red Wizards of Thay. They would have the means and make deals with devils and rhe like. This may be a bigger issue than we may have realized. Dark forces are certainly at work here."
Sylvio opens his eyes and looks up at the woman after she speaks. “Sylvio is-a glad that you have-a started to feel better. And while he is-a sure your husbands friends from-a the docks would-a be willing, it is more than they can-a handle. We do not-a want to lead the people to-a their deaths.” He smiles and continues, “But-a, if you could spread-a the word to the city guards… let-a them know what has-a happened… it will help.”
He frowns and looks at the others, “As it is-a, it is our word alone and-a the city guards do not-a trust us. If-a word was spread about-a what has happened… if-a the guards go to-a the stalls and see-a the corpses… it can-a not but help our claim-a.”
"Who should we trust? The noble house that we left seemed to wish to keep it quiet and tried to imprison and kill us. The Captain seemed trust-worthy to me, but how to get to him? Even he wished to keep things quiet, perhaps to avoid a panic?" Sunny ponders, absent-mindedly mending things about her, the slight tear in the curtain, a crack in the chair arm, a chip in a cup...
Sweeps grimaces as he pulls a bandage tight around his arm “I don’t think the nobles are involved, they lost a child of their own and wanted us for other reasons.” He lets out a low whistle when Amadi mentions the Red Wizards. “Then we must go to the Captain. We need the authorities on our side, but would he believe us? Only one way to find out. Let’s find him, show him the box and see what happens.”
Clare smiles to Sunny as she notices the tortle restoring some wear and tear on the Morris house. Her expression changes back to confusion when Sylvio mentions corpses. The poor woman looks again to the group of adventurers, covered in blood, undead and their own.
“I don’t know. Folk at the docks are pretty strong, but…” She looks at your wounds. “They are not warriors. And if you want to spread word to the guard without getting their attention you could speak with Rick One-Eye on the Troll Gate. I mean, his name is Richard, but no one calls him like that. You see, most of the guards don’t give a rat ass about what happens here so when someone needs their work done it is often necessary to pay – to the guards or local criminals, not that there is much difference. Some of the soldiers double down doing dirty jobs. Things like teaching a lesson to aggressive folk. There’s talk they even disappear with some people if paid well enough, but I don’t know how true this history is. What I know is that Rick have been stationed on that gate longer than any other guard and take a cut of every bribe going around there. You appear from the inside the walls asking for him and the others will know better than to ask questions. It should be easy enough to have him arrange for some patrol to be sent to those stalls you speak of. With enough coin he could even hand a message to this Captain you mentioned.”
Notes: Feel free to heal as many hit dice as you want. If the game was on a table you would decide how much to heal after seeing the result of the previous roll so I find it fair to give all of you the option to heal more after the first post during the short rest.
@Althax and @Gunner, because of your character's background and the knowledge it gives about the areas of the city, both Sweeps and Sylvio know that what Clare says is true - guards often double down as tugs and in poor areas have to be bribed just to do their work. Both of you can make an History Check to see if your characters ever heard abour Rick One-Eye.
"Yes, we should make haste to the captain now that we've had a moment to rest." Sunny says as she moves to rise.
She then turns to the woman, "You have been so very kind to us, my thanks to you. We will see an end to this evil." As she does so she looks around her home and the chaos that lies about her, sad that she may not stay to help clean up and presses a couple silver into her palm firmly and looks at her deeply showing that she will not accept it back. "Take care of yourself and your husband. You will always have a friend in me should you need."
Sunny rises to her full stature, straightening her pack and pats Chewy on the head, "Well friends, off we go?"
"Is this someone you may know Sweeps? This sounds like a good suggestion to me, even with the bribe." Sunny considers this ideal solution to notifying the Captain without alerting unfriendlies.
Sweeps thinks and turns to Sunny “I do not know this Rick One-Eye, but I do know that guards in these areas often take extra work in addition to their duties. He may know something, or be able to help us get word to the Captain. I am all for going to the Troll Gate to meet him and find out.”

"I agree, lets hasten there and find an end to this." Sunny nods and seems anxious to get moving. "I'll take Chewy out and quickly survey the area to make sure no more trouble has come." She strides to the door giving another parting nod to Clara opening the door to check outside. perception26
“Sylvio has-a heard of this-a One-Eye Rick. He is-a no friend of-a the nobility but is-a willing to do anything for-a the right price. We could-a slip him some coin and-a suggest that the city guards need to investigate that area? The-a guards would-a then have to report such a scene to the watch-a… substantiating our-a claims. We could-a even let Rick-a know who we are and to connect-a the business with-a us.” He frowns a moment before continuing.
”This is-a not without risk-a. There are-a rumors that he is-a connected to certain unsanctioned guilds or-a organizations. If they are-a behind this… we would-a be jumping out to them and-a saying Come and-a get us!”
As Sunny passes to look along outside, she hears Sylvio commenting on his knowledge of the less than noble guard. "It might be worth the risk. How much is a reasonable bribe for something like this? We don't have a lot of funds at the moment."
