A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Varan's words seem to fill the apparition with a mixture of sadness and hope. When Varan turns away, the voice calls back; "You are closer to redemption than you believe yourself to be, Varan. You judge yourself; that is what I seek, yet you make no promises to change the path of life which led you here. There is more than one key to the exit, Varan; but only you can escape the mire you have dragged yourself into. Leave, if you must."
Mulligan fumbles blindly for the door and - as if it was waiting for him - immediately finds one of several exits. Slipping through the magical gate, Mulligan finds himself sprawled against the floor - directly near the waiting Avarice, who only saw Mulligan materialize from midair.
DC15 Con save for 10 damage.
Keyleth and Wulgar each wade through the thickening, mud-like blood painting the floor a shade of red. Fumbling to where the slowly pulsing glimpse of light appears from below the blood, Keyleth reaches into the blood and closes her fist around another palm-sized jewel. It doesn't give way without a tug, though, but after a sensation disturbingly similar to the feeling of removing a loose tooth from its socket, the gem comes free. The blood seems to drain into some hole created by the removal of the gem; the blood funnels at a magically enhanced rate, dragging Keyleth, Ragnar, and Wulgar down with an overwhelming amount of magical force. A feeling similar to teleportation arises as you near the drain and - with a momentary blink of unconsciousness - you find yourselves falling from the roof of the original room.
Avarice and Mulligan, you see a bloodsoaked Keyleth, Ragnar, and Wulgar tumble into the room from seemingly nowhere.
"Did you see what happened to Varan?" Avarice says to Mulligan as soon as he has regained his bearings. "What happened to you? You all look a bit roughed up. You didn't fight amongst yourselves did you?" Avarice says smirking to Kayleth, Ragnar and Wulgar as they tumble into the room.
Avarice is holding and studying the amethyst and the aquamarine, discussing with Vorax and trying to figure out what kind of tests could be linked to these gems. Arcana with help from Vorax:24 because why not.
Mulligan, upon finding a door, called out to Varan to close his eyes and come to the door. Mulligan would have held off going through the door, calling out to Varan to hopefully direct him by sound to the door, telling him to keep his eyes closed. Only if Varan seemed to delay would Mulligan step through before he came... Then again, if opening the door sucked him right through then the thing is the thing.
Either way, Mulligan would tell Avarice either "He was right behind me...." or "He was busy talking to nothing and would not come to the door."
Varan closes his eyes and walks away from apparition... there's nothing more he is willing to say now.
(Does he find a door? If so he will pass through. He also continues to intentionally waive the CON save.)

As Varan turns away, closes his eyes; and reaches for one of the room’s walls, his hand immediately finds itself on a handle which wasn’t there on sight. It seems whatever door leading from this room isn’t quite fixed in reality; it seems to find its way to those who know how to look for it. Either way, Varan pushes through from the poisonous air into the room with Avarice, Mulligan, and the blood soaked rest of the party, apparently materializing midair.
The party is, for now, together. Two of the six torches are lit; one burns with a greenish light, the other red. Avarice holds the amethyst and bluish gemstone, while Keyleth holds a quartz-like crystal found in the blood-filled room.
"Yes, this place seems complicated Kayleth, but I think we know much more about it now than when we parted." Avarice says, standing facing the others, hoping for the their attention. "You seem lika smart folks but I will share my conclusions anyway so that we might solve this together in accordance with our pact." He starts, walking back and forth as he continues talking. "It seems clear that when a gem is slotted in the floor the ones touching the drift globe is teleported to a chamber with a test corresponding to that color. The green gem took me, Mulligan and Varan to a room with green poison, but we were given clues to how to escape back here. I would guess your test would had something to do with fire or possibly blood." He says turned to Kayleth, Ragnar and Wulgar before continuing. "We are now back from our tests and as you can see the two torches now burns green and red, which I assume is a sign that we have passed those two tests. Since there are six torches we should expect it to be six tests in total and that we still need to complete the last four. I realize there might well be other tests beyond that. We have these two gems already..." Avarice shows the amethyst and the aquamarine in his hand. "...but we would need two more to take us to the last two tests. Perhaps we will find the last two gems as we go along. Anyway, it seems clear that not all of us needs to complete each test. Now if we could figure out what kind of test would await us if we put let's say the aquamarine in the slot we could consider sending one or more of us there who would most likely succeed. Or we could of course just all go to that room. So, any thoughts on what would await us in the aquamarine test. A lot of water would be the simple answer." Avaraice says smirking and looks to the others for their thoughts.
Wulgar says “It had to be blood. I kept telling em, “Let’s make it out of piss,” but oh no, it had to be blood.” He wipes the blood off himself and comes down out of a rage, calming down. “Should we rest a bit before fiddling with any of those other crystals? What happened with the green one?”

"So it was blood then." Avarice says to himself. "Good Kayleth, then we're just one gem short, but it will likely turn up in one of these tests." He says, nodding approvingly at Keyleth. "A rest would probably be good but what do you all think on how we should proceed after that?" Avarice asks the others.

"There's a sixth gem. Topaz." Varan takes a moment to clear his thoughts as the last of the poison leaves his system. "It was in the possession of a ghost, or an elaborate illusion made to seem as such. I wasn't able to negotiate to secure the gem and had no spells which would have enabled me to take it by force."

"It was probably an advanced illusion, much of this place is it seems, but the entity that brought us all here is clearly well aware of our past sins. Can you tell us more of this negotiation Varan? We need to be prepared when a new possibility to aquire this topaz arises." Avarice asks the contract assassin.
"It seemed to wish to counsel me. It seemed more interested in... reforming... rather than punishing me. But it asked me to tell it things I could not. And when I attempted to deceive it, it saw through it instantly."
Varan sits down against one of the walls, looking ill. "Ordinarily I could have shrugged off the effects of the poison with minimal effort. As part of my engagement with the spectre I had to embrace the poison. I thought that may have been what it wanted... to see me share in its suffering... It's taken a bit of a toll on me. I wonder now if the whole thing was a ruse to wear me down."
