Daventry fumbles with the locks initially making no progress with her thieves' tools. Hearing Ludolf's words of wisdom she finds the keys slide into the locks opening them with ease.
In the first chest Daventry sees more gold than she has ever laid her eyes on. A bed of coins and guessing from the ledger above this would be the 450gp mentioned. However, there is more to this chest. Sitting on top of the gold is a soft black velvet piece of cloth, inside a humanoid heart is carefully wrapped.
The second chest opens just as easily, inside you find six books neatly arranged. A brief look at the titles shows the collection to include Mazfroth’s Mighty Digressions, Fallen Tethyamar, The Dark Hunger, Castanamir’s Guide to Gingwatzims , Wanderings of a Humble Aasimar and Daughters of Graz’zt.

"Excellent, let's bring it all back to Candlekeep with us, another three interesting titles there, Bookwyrm should be pleased with this expedition. Well done everyone." Ludolf says smiling to his friends. "This calls for revels, right Daventry?"
"Well, I can try to do my work down here, but if it's a struggle we can tie some rope and haul the chests up. Pardot, care to give a look? You seemed interested last time I worked a lock."
“Good memory, yes, it might be good for me to learn.” Pardot says.
Once the chest is open, he sees the heart and gold, and adds, “This was their diamond fund it seems. Does anyone know what you might need 1,000 gp diamond for that also might use a heart?” Adding guidance to anyone who might know.
looks like they were trying to Rez someone… Though it’s not a Druid spell, so I think Pardot wouldn’t really know of it.
@DM - is the heart preserved? Is it very old? Fresh?…
"Strange. Hopefully it'll keep... Bet Bookwyrm will take an interest. Triasa, are you seein' any odd auras on these?" Daventry asks, before loading all of the coinage into sacks for the party members, and handing the heart to Ludolf. If the books aren't aberrationy, she'll divvy them up as well.
(All to the loot goblin for now, we can actually divide everything when we get to a long rest or before a shop)
"I'm curious about this Nidalia that Korvala mentioned... But we've no further clues besides the name... "
Once she's climbed back to the main floor leaving the chests empty, she draws her dagger. "Might want to look away, Klin, if you're feelin' lightheaded still."
She cuts the left ear off of each jackal, wrapping them all in a rag.
"Oh! One of these books mentions Gingwatzims. Isn't that what Korvala called the goopy things?" Daventry gives that book to Triasa before starting her ear collection. "Triasa, maybe we can figure out more about these creatures tomorrow..."

While the others pack away the gold and books to be accounted for later, Pardot gingerly takes the heart, wraps it up, and places it into his pack, being sure to give the place one more look ((19)) on their way out, just in case there was something they may have missed.

Triäsa is excited when Daventry hands her Castanamir’s Guide to Gingwatzims. She immediately opens it up and starts to skim through some of the early pages of it. "Be interesting to see what this says. But would be nice to know who Nidalia is?" She continues to peruse the book, after reading briefly through a couple pages she leafs through the rest to see if anything catches her eye. (Investigation: 14)
"Hm, interesting..." Ludolf says quietly, standing beside Triäsa, trying to glean informtion about Gingwatzims. Investigation: 22 He also ponders the question about the diamond fund and the heart. Arcana: 7
The group gather the loot storing and packing it away safely. As you take one last stroll the building nothing further catches anyone's eye, whatever mysteries still remain here are sealed away with the dead. The only thing you do notice is that it is still very much the middle of the night.
As far as the book it's hard to read or do much with only a little time flipping through the pages. While it is not a long book it does seem to describe the creatures you have encountered. There are a few pages in the middle missing.

"Hah, if I had to guess the actual summoning ritual is on those missing pages." Ludolf says to Triäsa holding the book.. Before leaving Ludolf would make as sure as possible that they have not left the summoning ritual behind, not that he himself ever would summon such a creature.
As their guide Daventry seems to have her mind set on returning to the Three Kegs Ludolf sees no point in talking anyone else into making Baldur's Gate this particular night.
As the group heads out from the place, Triäsa glances up from the book. "Yes Ludolf, I will have to read the book closer. But you are right, it would not be surprising if the ritual itself was what is missing." She then closes up the book to place in her pack. "So, are we actually going back to the Three Kegs? I fear the guards are not going to allow us through the gate. We might have to find some other place unfortunately."
Although she wasn't paying that close attention, Triäsa couldn't help but notice Daventry collecting the ears of the jackals. Once they are on their way she finds on opportunity to walk alongside the woman. "Daventry, if you do not mind the question, why did you take those ears?"
Daventry leads the group back to what could qualify as the main road in the Lower City, avoiding any spots that she knows to be more dangerous. She heads for Baldur's Gate, hoping that the main gate will be the one to allow them access again. "We'll try to get back to the rooms we've rented, otherwise we will improvise in the Lower City."
To Triasa, "I don't mind. Gruesome work, I know, but simple explanation. Some towns and cities have bounties out for monsters. I don't know if what we've got will qualify, but if so, this proof could be worth some extra gold from the Flaming Fist."

As you all make your way through the Outer City you see a number of shadows and figures eyeing you from the darkness. The bags of money making an audible noise along with your sack of reclaimed books. The darkness of the outer city feels oppressive and dangerous.

You make your way to the main gates of the lower city. The crowds that you encountered earlier have dispersed most probably thinking it was too dangerous remain outside at night. The guard seeing you approach quickly stops you barring your entry, "Stop! it is after curfew there are to be no entries into the city after sundown. Go back to your homes." States a very large man clad in full plate with a large sword strapped to his back. He speaks in an authoritative voice that has clearly seen it's shar of nights on watch.

"But Sir, forgive us for being new to your city, we were not aware of these regulations, perhaps a donation could see us safely to our accomodations at The Three Kegs." Ludolf asks pleadingly, holding 5 pieces of gold in his open palm, aware of the city's penchant for bribery.
Persuasion to get the team to the Three Kegs: 15 assuming someone helps out.
Prior to the gate Daventry fluffs up her hair and pulls down her tunic a bit to show off some skin. She looks to Triäsa. "Better if you and the others do the talking. My accent'd be more barrier than help in these parts."

Triäsa nods at Daventry's explanation of the ears.
Once they get to the gate, she glances at the others then steps forward, giving the guard a smile. "Sir, we have lodgings at the Three Kegs and are only trying to return there. We are so sorry that we were not paying attention to the curfew." She then looks to Daventry and the others, allowing them to make any appropriate bribe.
(Persuasion with HELP presuming someone helps her out: 15)
The guard seems to consider you all very carefully before speaking, "Two women, an old man, a midget and a monk.... If you are up to no good you certainly did a good job disguising yourselves.... I suppose if I don't let you in you'll probably get yourselves killed and then I'll be spending my morning cleaning your entrails from the road... Fine, 20 gold dontation and I'll let you in but you go straight to the the Three Kegs..."He stops and appears to be thinking as he motions to one of the other guards just beyond the gate. "Actually, here is a better idea. Seth here is going to escort you to the Kegs."He looks at the second guard and says in a very serious tone, "Seth, check with whichever Old Toad is there tonight. If he doesn't recognize this crew just throw the lot of them in the stocks and we'll hang them some time tomorrow."Seth nods and as long as you all pay he will escort you to the Three Kegs.
