Ludolf nods at Daventry, giving her a smile for taking care of Edgar. "Yes, that was some unkindness right there." He says to Klin in a tired voice. "I seem to remember reading something about ravens though. Let me rest and I will get back on that subject." He says, trying to find somewhere for Triäsa to rest.
Tired and a bit beat up from the days activities you wander back into the Mayor's mansion. You find just as you left it a few hours ago. Dusty, cold but there is a good bit more light coming in from the dust and dirt covered windows. The building is quiet and you do not get the sense of life or activity anywhere around you.
(You have the afternoon/evening to yourselves. You can give yourselves a long rest and when you are ready to move along to the next morning you can do so. The night will pass uneventfully except for a raven that occasionally lands on window and peers into the rooms you are staying in.)

Ludolf suggests Triäsa and Daventry share the Master bedroom double bed while the others take one bed each of the other rooms. Before turning in for a long uneventful rest Ludolf tries to communicate with the raven at his window. "Do you understand me? Nod if you do please?" (Using Awakened Mind to telepathically speak to the raven if it understands at least one language.)
At a ration breakfast next morning Ludolf tells the others what he remembers about reading a book with the title The Book of the Raven back at Candlekeep For those interested enough to listen.
It is a firsthand account in common of an anonymous author who, after falling off her horse and breaking her leg, was rescued and befriended by Vistani travelers who graciously nursed her back to health. The author and her horse traveled with the Vistani for three months, during which the author spent most of her time laid up in a Vistani covered wagon, where she took to writing this book to pass the time. Although a dozen Vistani are colorfully described in the tome, only two are mentioned by name: Drasha, a teenaged girl who applied bandages and poultices to the author’s wounded leg, and Darzin, a one-armed boy with a terrible fear of wolves who sang beautiful songs to help the author take her mind off the pain.
The book provides a detailed account of the Vistani way of life, with emphasis on their food and music. Their overland journey is also discussed, albeit from the viewpoint of one who spent most of it inside a covered wagon. The author describes rough roads, days of travel through impenetrable mist and thick forest, crackling fires on cold nights, wolves howling in the dead of night, and ravens pecking at the roof of the wagon in the wee hours of the morning.
Late in the book, the author writes of being able to hobble about on crutches. She describes the cheery mood of her benefactors as the Vistani caravan traveled a winding mountain road to the gates of a tall, dark castle. The book ends with a description of the castle’s dreadful countenance. The writing abruptly stops on the third-to-last page, suggesting that the book was snatched from the author in midsentence. The last two pages are blank.
Facts you learn about the Vistani:
The Vistani are planar travelers.
The Vistani display their wealth openly as a sign of prosperity, sharing their good fortune with friends and strangers alike. Vistani resolve disagreements through contests that end with reconciliatory singing, dancing, and storytelling.
The Vistani have the power—some say gift—to travel through the mists that lead to forlorn realms within the Shadowfell known as the Domains of Dread, where creatures born in darkness dwell. This “gift” was thrust upon them by mysterious entities called the Dark Powers, as a boon for their kindness toward strangers.
Unless Ludolf somehow finds flowers in the vicinity or comes up with another way to put flowers on the grave of Mr. Grosvenors parents he is then ready to travel on to hopefully find Chalet Brantifax that is supposedly situated near Vermeillon.
Triäsa readily accepts the offer to sleep on the bed in the Master bedroom. She immediately lies down and falls asleep right away.
Although she sleeps well longer than a normal night's sleep, she is still awake long before the dawn. She grabs her lute and tries to find a spot away from any others that might be sleeping. Quietly, she plays a number of pieces. Finally, she softly starts to sing along to one of the tunes: 'Gaze no more in the bitter glass The demons, with their subtle guile, Lift up before us when they pass, Or only gaze a little while; For there a fatal image grows That the stormy night receives, Roots half hidden under the snows, Broken boughs and blackened leaves.
For all things turn to bareness In the dim glass the demons hold, The glass of outer weariness, Made when gods slept in times of old. There, through the broken branches, go The ravens of unresting thought; Flying, crying, to and fro, Cruel claw and hungry throat, Or else they stand and sniff the wind, And shake their ragged wings: alas!' Thy tender eyes grow all unkind: Gaze no more in the bitter glass.'
She continues playing the melody on her lute a bit longer before stopping. She slips the lute back strapped to her back and wanders the mansion a bit until morning, and everyone is awake.
She listens closely to Ludolf as he shares the story of The Book of the Raven. "Do you think the tale might be related to this place?" she asks him. She then smiles, though trying to keep it concealed. "Imagine how fun it would be to travel with the Vistani and to learn from them. Although the Shadowfell and Domains of Dread are not high on my list of places to linger for too long!" Her mood seems to remain positive though and she is more than ready to head out once the others are set.
Something stirs Ludolf in his sleep, and soon he realizes it is Triäsa's beautiful voice, singing quietly somewhere in the house. He lies very still in his bed, not wanting to miss a note or a word from her mouth. As the music stops he stays in bed for a while humming the song he heard.
"I'm not sure it has anything to do with the portal and Chalet Brantifax but I remembered reading it as we saw the ravens and I don't believe much in coincidences." He says to Triäsa as the team prepares to leave Vermeillon to find Chalet Brantifax. "I would not be surprised if we will encounter the Vistani one day in our quest for knowledge about planar travel."

Daventry, similar to Triasa, faceplants directly onto the bed in the manor. Soft snoring emerges almost immediately from somewhere within the musty old pillow as the woman gets her rest.
The next morning, she rises and finally looks refreshed. As the others talk, she gets the stove in the manor going, and is frying up some of the morning's rations for breakfast. She pipes in to the discussion. "Still, Domains of Dread don't sound particularly invitin', if you get my drift. I'd settle for my beach cabin in the mansion, thanks."
As Pardot stirs, she looks to the halfling. "Hopefully you've got it in ya to talk to animals today, Pardot. Think that might come in handy, unless the conspiracy gives ya the cold shoulder, same as Edgar. Oh, food's almost done."
Pardot creates some berries for the following day using one of his remaining spell slots before dusting off a bed and falling asleep. He too wakes early, still in the dark and quietly goes out to look at the starts. Being this high up means one usually has a nice clear view after all. Though he's happy to just study the stars in general, almost as a form of meditation, he does look towards the sky where the strange stars were lit up in the observatory in, what is now their, pocket dimension home back at the Keep.
He also listens to the story from Ludolf and nods in agreement, "Domains of Dread certainly doesn't sound fun. Though, how the stars connect us all, even through different planes, is something I am curious about." In the morning he looks towards Daventry's cooking attempt and simply pops a berry in his mouth instead, adding, "Yes... Though I am still worried of the Evil and Good of this place, I believe you are correct. Being able to speak with the creatures around here would probably be useful."
spell upkeep: unprepared lesser restoration, keep protection from evil and good b/c this place still gives him the creeps, and re-prepare speak with animals since it seems it would have come in handy a couple times yesterday.
Daventry looks disappointed in her meal. Granted, trail rations aren't great to start with and are kinda dry, but edible food probably shouldn't be that level of crisped black in color.
She shrugs. "See? Would've made a terrible housewife. Can slice an onion midair, but Beshaba knows I have no clue what to do with it after."
"So you were just proving a point then?" Ludolf says to Daventry, giving her a smile. "This is rather tasty though, I think you could still have a future as a housewife." He adds with a wink.
"Apologies Daventry, I had no intention of offending you." Ludolf says giving her an apologetic look. "Not sure we have any flowers to put on the graves but it seems appropriate to at least go there and pay our respect as you suggested."
@Pardot -- Make a nature check regarding your observation of the night sky.
The rest of you set out after your morning breakfast. The air is again crisp and there is a thin layer of ice coating the ground and you can see your breath in the morning air. Thankful again for your "rented" gear you walk toward the cemetery.
As you approach the rusted and failing gate of the cemetery grounds, Daventry notices a grouping of wildflowers that are partially covered in ice though they appear harden toward the elements and very much alive. Pardot would recognize them as Snowdrop Blossoms, ordinary flowers with no known magical uses but can thrive in cold climates.
Like much of Vermeillon the graveyard is overgrown with what little vegetation that can survive at this altitude. Headstones sit at odd angles, some toppled completely. Small cairns, rather than inscribed headstones, mark the graves toward the back. There are a number of graves in various stages of being dug and you need to be careful about not falling into one. The graveyard is rather large so it takes a bit of time but you are eventually able to find the graves you are searching for.
Sitting side by side and separated by only a few inches read two headstones;
LUKAS GROSVENOR
Father, husband and dedicated son of Amaunator
LORNA GROSVENOR
Beloved of Lukas. Forever, My Heart.

Ludolf picks some of the Snowdrop Blossoms, brings them to the cemetary to the headstones of Mr. Grosvenors parents. "Lukas and Lorna, know that the darkness that has plagued your village now has been lifted. Know also that your son misses you but has made a good life for himself as a tavernkeeper in Maerin. We grieve for the tragic fate of Vermeillon but rejoice in that the light have now returned and that your village can be a prosperous one once more." He says solemnly and puts the flowers by the two headstones before making a bow and standing in silence for a while.
He waits to see if anyone has anything to add before readying himself to follow the road not travelled yet, in hope of finding Chalet Brantifax.

Pardot follows the group, breathing deep in the cold air, enjoying the chill as it enters his lungs but grateful for the warm clothing keeping him warm on the outside. Pointing out the flowers that Ludolf picks, he then is silent as his companion says his words, simply nodding in agreement. He then pours a small bit of water from his flask and floats it towards each of the grave stones, leaving it frozen in the shape of a 🌟 perched on each. He then hikes up his pack, saying a small internal prayer for their late guide as he sees the dark purple rope strapped to it, and is ready to be on.
Most of the night sky looks like it had after a few of the stars had fallen back in Baulder's Gate. You do notice one thing that is a bit odd. Directly above you there is a very very bright star. It does not appear to move or track with the other stars but rather stays perfectly still in the sky as long as you watch it. You are not familiar with this celestial body and it's activity does not seem behave in any manner that you recognize. It's all rather odd.
As Ludolf and Pardot make their gestures of remembrance a soft, gentle breeze picks up and whistles through the barren trees. Perhaps, it is just the wind moving but you could have sworn you heard a whispered Thank You
Carrying on back past the mansion to the long drive you come back to raven lined road from yesterday. Today the road is quiet and barren. Assuming you continue down the road you find that it actually goes on for about a mile or so. It very much has the appearance of a worn down personal drive as it is very narrow as it climbs the mountain. It circles back and looking over the side you can see Vermeillon below you about 50 feet as the road circles back to the west. The mist swirling about your feet continues to thicken as you walk the drive. Then suddenly road opens up to a clearing and a mist covered flat terrace in the mountain side. Before you stands a partially collapsed mansion.
The three story structure is made of a dark stone surrounded by a rusty iron gate that has also collapsed along the entire western half. There are thick weeds overgrowing the property and the windows are broken. The mist is thicker here than anywhere else. It pours out the cracks and holes in the building and snakes its way around from the back of the dilapidated mansion to run down the road and over the cliff side.
There are two other obvious and odd facts about this property. Firstly, there is a strange covered wagon sitting in front of the building. Like the mansion it is falling apart and appears to have been there for a very, very long time. The covering was probably once brightly covered but that has faded to pale blues, reds and greens. Finally, the mansion is covered in ravens. There might be hundreds of them all perched silently high above you on trees and the remaining roof of the mansion. They are completely silent and unmoving as they peer down at you.
