The constructs look overjoyed to be asked their names, "Why thank you for asking over there is my friend Cumin and I am Corriander. It is a pleasure to meet you all. We haven't had visitors in ages except for the strange elf who just stood in the hallway shouting words at the door." says Corriander. "We stayed far away from that odd man."
As you enter the dining room you find a room with large windows which form the entirety of the east wall. The windows look out on three planted beds filled with vegetation. Within this room, a crystal chandelier hangs above a table made of dark wood. Six matching wooden chairs with scarlet cushions surround the table. A seventh chair sits alone in the far corner to the south next to a door that leads back out into the main hallway. The walls are adorned with pleasant but unremarkable tapestries and despite your searching of both the kitchen and the dining room there are no books to be found. You all did note the door to the north of the kitchen led to a very well stocked pantry.
Pockets promptly hops up on the table and lies down in the center as you all talk and look about the room.
Ludolf and Pardot -- Looking out at the stars you are able to recognize a few familiar constellations but as you stare up at the crystal clear night sky you note that something is wrong. The stars are not where they should be some of the constellations look inverted while others are to the south while they should be in east. There does not seem to be an obvious pattern to the changes.
"Cumin and Corriander, interesting names. I hope they do a better job making our dinner tasty than their namesakes would." Ludolf comments, not being particularly fond of exotic spices.
"Fascinating, this pocket plane seems to be literally situated beyond the stars." Ludolf says to Triäsa and Pardot by the window. "Perhaps the planetarium will explain the inverted constellations." He adds before taking a seat at the far corner of the table. He then starts looking through the book they found in the study for more clues to this place. Investigation:10
Daventry nods in thanks to the pair, holding her ale in hand. "A pleasure, likewise, Cumin and Coriander. Thank you for your hospitality! I am Daventry." She gravitates towards the seventh chair. "Is this just a spare, or is this the one your mistress uses to sit at the head of the table? Speaking of, can you tell us about your mistress? We are sad that we've seemed to miss meeting her today. And this mansion, it's truly magnificent."
"I do look forward to seeing the observatory." Triäsa says to Pardot and Ludlow, though not inspecting the stars in nearly the same detail as the others.
As Ludlow sits, she comes over and takes the place to his right. Her voice is low as she interrupts as he begins to look at the book. "Sir, if I might ask, is everything alright with you? Your words a moment ago seemed rather focused on your mortality." She looks at him with concern on her face. "I mean, I can see you are aged, but I hope you are not suffering any ailments."
Having said that and having a moment to reflect, she quickly adds, "My pardon, that was a bit impolitely put. I meant no offense, sir."
"No offense taken young Triäsa. And I am suffering no ailments other than age itself, which death will eventually cure my dear. It is easy to dwell on ones mortality when meeting someone so vibrant and full of life and thirst for knowledge. I will savor these explorations with you Triäsa, they will grant a new purpose to a long life in a dusty library." Ludolf says looking up at Triäsa with his piercing grey eyes before returning to the book.

As everyone takes a seat and Ludolf begins to look at the book, Daventry has made her way over to the seventh chair. Cumin takes note of Daventry's question and says, "Thats rather odd I don't remember that chair being there at all." Just Cumin is finishing their words the chair springs into life. The seat grows teeth and the legs begin thrashing wildly as the mimicsprings to life looking to take a bite out of our dinner guests.
Cumin and Corriander drop their dishes and flee back to the kitchen with shrieks of panic. Pockets jumps with surprising speed and agility and joins the homunculi in retreat with wine and ale being spilt everywhere.

Daventry was mid-swig of her ale as the construct replied, and was already the closest to the chair. "Gah! Beshaba's bust, it's a damned mimic!"She drops the mug, flinging it more in surprise than anything else, ale splattering both herself and the mimic. With a smooth motion, she slides the slender blade from her belt, and arcane blue light traces lines down her fingers to the handle, twisting and swirling around the blade as it moves. Daventry thrusts the weapon at the mimic, then raises her shield to defend her friends.

Just as she watches Ludolf's grey eyes turn back to his book, Triäsa hears the commotion and is quickly to get feet. "Oh, wow! A mimic!" She sounds quite fascinated.
She draws her short sword and grabs her dagger with her other hand. Quickly she closes the distance to come alongside Daventry and attempts to attack with both weapons.

"I`M TRYING TO READ HERE." Ludolf says angrily as the commotion starts. He stands up and faces the shapechanging monstrosity turning his piercing gaze at it and uttering a few eldritch words swiftly cursing it (Bonus action Hex dex). Then his grey eyes flashes and an eldritch grey force blasts the monstrosity. Eldritch blast:8 Damage Force:5 + Necrotic:2 Extra crit damage Force:8 Necrotic:4

Disappointed that his first proper meal is immediately interrupted, and seeing the rest of the group jump into action, Pardot realizes that this creature cannot be talked with, and quickly charging another set of stones places one into his sling to fire off at the toothy chair.

Daventry blade crashes into the chair causing it wheel back in pain visibly hurt. Triäsa follows his attack but is perhaps distracted by uniqueness of the monster as her first strike goes wide and the second slide harmlessly between a gap in the wooden panels. Ludolf's strikes out in an apparent rage blowing a hole straight through the back of the chair followed quickly by two deft strikes from Klin who breaks a few of the boards on the seat back like a Kung Fu master. Finally Pardot nearly miss loads his sling but as the stone hits the floor it lands a rubbery piece of jello and bounce right into place as he fires it directly in the chairs toothy mouth.
The chair coughs briefly trying to gather itself from the sudden and violent onslaught. Having seen Daventry as a pleasant meal it lashes out with a sticky pseudopod from it's mouth trying to grab the young warrior and pull her into it's tooth maw.
Daventry deflects the slimy pseudopod, angling the shield so it slides off without getting stuck. She whirls around, switching her grip midair to try to drive the point of the rapier down and through the seat of the "chair", the blade still trailing the arcane energy she has enhanced it with. Quickly retracting the blade to a close grip after the strike, she slots it into her belt harness, and holds her right hand just outside the shield, wisps of arcane energy swirling through her fingers once again. "Wanna try that again, ya sorry excuse for an arse holder?"

Taking a better grip of this stone, Pardot loads another into his sling and he moves around the table to get a clear shot of the char, hoping to avoid his companion who is being gnawed on.
The three of you lay into the chair with your simultaneous attacks and the "chair" shatters to pieces. The wood chips on the floor turn into a blue-purple ectoplasm as the mimic dies. As the sounds of battle die down Cumin, Coriander and Pockets return to the of the dining room. Pockets wanders over to the mimic and starts sniffing the goo curiously while the constructs look at the mess, you can see the eagerness to start cleaning in their eyes. In unison they say, "My goodness what a mess! We are very sorry the meal was ruined please give us time to clean the mess and we can set out for even grander feast to celebrate your heroism!!"
