Daventry gives a nod to Ludolf, tacit acceptance of his apology, before the monks go into their speils.
She removes a rolled up piece of parchment from her bag, quickly unfurling it to make sure it was not water damaged during the journey. On it are traced a series of runes and glyphs in three sections, with a large central rune in one of the sections. (Someone astute might deduce it looks like a book cover)
Daventry rolls up the parchment again, turning back to the gnome. "Well met, Fembris. I'm Daventry O'Wyrwood."She offers the rolled up parchment to Fembris. "I'd like to find out what these runes mean. What language they're in... And how to translate more like it." Daventry glances up at the keep beyond. "If that's possible..."
Triäsa listens to Fembris patiently, then takes a piece of parchment and begins to write (not really showing it to anyone, but making no attempt to hide it.):
(one additional word is written at the end - I need to make up what it is one of these days) - 'may be a person, place, or artifact'
Triäsa then folds the paper in half and hands it back. "Thank you VERY much for your assistance. So... is there any chance to just SEE inside the library itself? Maybe a brief tour?"
"Yes, excellent idea, a tour. I´m sorry, I don´t think I introduced myself, I haven´t been much outside my uncles library these last couple of decades I´m afraid. The name is Ludolf, Ludolf Crowley." Ludolf says to the others, bowing awkwardly, clearly not being used to meeting new people, and yet, something about him is weirdly fascinating.
As Klin asks his question Fembris stares at him blankly for a second, it's the first time you have seen her actually stop and think. She then blinks her large blue eyes.... twice.... slowly.... and says, "What a wonderful question! I actually don't know how to respond to it... We have hundreds maybe thousands of books which are one of a kind first editions written by histories greatest minds and perhaps even more collections of stories written by farmers that exist no where else in print or memory. Who is to say what is more rare?"
"I will find you some tomes regarding symbology and runes... We have an entire building of books dedicated to both"She says looking at Daventry "I'll have someone look at these runes to see if they recognize them maybe we can narrow the search down to a 400-500 books that should be pretty manageable."
"With regards to entering the main collection I am sorry but that is strictly off limits to Seekers, no tours no visitation no exceptions but don't worry! That's what the Avowed are here for. You just flag down any of us, doesn't have to be me, and it is our duty and honor to help." She looks a bit sad as she says this and adds, "I hope you are not too disappointed but we have to be careful. If you want to join us and become an Avowed perhaps one day you will get to see it for yourself!"
"Well I won't keep you any longer feel free to walk and explore the grounds. I will leave a message for you at the House of Rest when I have some results for you."
With that she waves and heads off towards the Emerald Gate to get started on your requests. It is midafternoon at this point
"Surely there are exceptions. I was a guide for the Vault of Sages for..." Triäsa's voice trails off as Fembris heads away.
She looks at the others. "Well, I know they will retrieve the items we are looking for much swifter than if we all had gone." She say very firmly. "Though I dare say I could have immediately eliminated any books I have already read. It probably would have sped up the process greatly in my case."
Looking around the courtyard, Triäsa seems for a moment at a loss to what to do. "Well, nothing for it but to find my accommodations at the House of Rest. Get settled in. That is where they will bring us our information after all."
She glances at the others a moment. "Care to join me Daventry? Perhaps we will be neighbors of a sort."
Triäsa makes her way over to the House of Rest, talking with Daventry as she goes. "I am sorry, but I could not help but hear that your question had to do with some runes?" Is that an area you study?"
Daventry gives a quick laugh. "Study's a... well... far more in-depth term compared to what I'm used to regarding my direction in life. Hells, all of this is." She glances around the clean courtyard.
"But... I suppose it's the path I've been set on, yeah. Never thought that'd be the case." Pausing a moment, she continues. "Guess that wasn't an actual answer to your question. Yes, I suppose. I have some runes that need translatin', and two sage-types I found in Luskan and Baldur's Gate were as worthless as teats on a bull."
Like Triäsa, Pardot makes no attempt to either share, or hide what he writes on his paper, though does pause and change his note to be more specific after the monk mentioned hundreds of books for her: “Thousand year stars coming out of the east.” “Stars sighted for less than a week.” “Stars of odd colors.”
Then, not knowing what to do, as it’s not night yet, simply stands around and listens to the others talk.
Triäsa considers Daventry's colorful wording a moment. "That would be rather useless I suppose," she mumbles mostly to herself.
"So if I am not being too personal, what is it you normally do? And I'm sure once you start getting into some books here you will find it is just amazing!" She smiles excitedly as they near the building.
"Been sailing between the Sword Coast and Moonshae for a few years, though I think that life's spent for me, now. Was training to be a navigator, before taking my leave of ship and sea. I come from a... proud... family of muck farmers up north. That life was never mine to claim." There is obvious sarcasm in Daventry's voice around the word 'proud'.
Daventry eyes Triäsa up and down, noting her immaculate gear. "What of you? Seems like you skipped the grit of the road on your path here. You were of, what, Silverymoon?"
"Yea... the most road I have seen was on the way here to Candlekeep. I lived in Silverymoon. Father is a scholar at the University. Mother was a wizard at the Vault of Sages - it's a big library, but maybe not THIS big."
Triäsa's eyes look about the courtyard again and another smile comes to her face. "I worked in the library, starting around 9. Eventually I joined the College of Fochlucan." She taps the lute at her back. "Music. Bard."
She shrugs at the comment. "Anyway, wonder how we find our lodgings? Maybe some water."
Daventry's eyes glitter a bit with amusement. She rattles the rapier on her belt. "Stabbin', fighter. A pleasure." She turns back to the others. "Oy, you lot going to stand around lolligagging at the cobblestones? Or should we wash down some dirt while we wait on the Avowed to seek our stories?"
Walking south across the courtyard in the direction Fembris indicated you easily find the two large buildings. On your left is a rustic appearing three story construction with a sign post out front saying "House of Rest." Next to it is a smaller building with wide double doors flanked by tall windows. A sign above the door reads "The Hearth." You seem a welcoming bloom of smoke rising from the Hearth with sounds of music, laughter and merriment radiating out from brightly lit windows.
Inside the House of Rest you see a few small tables with other Seekers reading quietly. There is a long desk across the clean wooden floor with a half elf man standing behind it. As you walk in he greets you warmly, "Welcome travelers, you must be our new arrivals! Make yourselves comfortable!" He says with a smile. "Name is Talis, I can help you get settled we have plenty of rooms at the moment. Fembris has arranged for single rooms for each of you. I just ask you keep quiet while here it is a place of rest relaxation, quiet conversation is appreciated but if you are looking for more excitement just head next door to The Hearth"
"Thank you very much, it is wonderful to be here. I am Triäsa and this here is Daventry. Would you show us to our rooms so we can get our things settled?"
She glances over at Daventry, hoping she doesn't mind her speaking for her as well. "We can check out The Hearth after. I'm sure they will have some water to 'wash down the dirt' as you say." She gives the woman a grin as she makes an attempt at replicating her wording.
Daventry nods, flashing a smile back. "Aye, good to have a place to lighten our burdens and wash our faces before we drink some of that 'water' you seem so fond of, Triäsa."
Daventry gives a nod to Ludolf, tacit acceptance of his apology, before the monks go into their speils.
