Van Richten comes in from behind Bral and points to them. "It appears they're carrionettes. Vicious toys who seek to swap their souls with other humans." He moves past everyone and goes into the back room.
Ez, recgonizing Dr. Van Richten, follows him.
Meanwhile, Thorn is on the ground, praying over Blinksy's body.
Robin eyes the strange toys, now broken and blackened. She shrugs. "I don't like this land if toys act like that." She says to no one in particular. She follows those who went into the back room.
In the back room, Van Richten watches Piccolo find a doll of a soldier. he points to Blinksy, then to the body. Thorn nods. "Looks like Blinksy is in this body."
Van Richten nods and takes a needle to stab Blinky's body. "Give it about an hour and he'll be fine." He looks to the rest of the group. "Hello everyone, I'm Dr. Rudolph Van Richten. Seems you all have run afoul of Strahd."

"Well, I'm pretty sure I told you all stay at the inn," Bral reminds everyone. "Instead it looks like you found your own trouble."
Baudric shrugs, "You didn't really expect us to sit around and wait, did you? Good evening Dr Van Richten, my name is Baudric Holystalker, and yes, Strahd found us earlier and some of our companions may have given their lives to hold him off. As for these carrionettes, I'm a little confused, toys have souls they can swap here?"
Dr. Van Richten smiles. "Pleased to meet you. They're called Carrionettes. They arise from innocent intentions. Heartfelt wishes breathe life into a beloved toy and, for a time, a creator might feel blessed by their new companion. But carrionettes aren’t content to live as toys and seek to escape the confines of their diminutive bodies. Every carrionette possesses a silver needle that pins its soul to its body. By posing as simple toys or hiding their desires, a carrionette gets close to an unsuspecting victim. It then uses its needle to swap souls with the victim, stealing the victim’s body while trapping the victim’s soul in its own doll-like frame. The carrionette then imprisons its old body, keeping the animate doll hidden while it explores the world in its stolen guise—often that of the very person who wished the carrionette into being."
Van Richten stops. "Blinksy should wake within an hour. Thorn, you should stay with him until that time. As for the rest of you, we should go back to Jander's. There's someone you're all looking for, as Bral told me."

Robin looks at the dolls with a shiver of revoltion. "Yes, let us get out of this place. It gives me the crawlies..." She follows the others out of the shop and back to wherever the Dr. is leading them.
Keldon follows the others but seems alarmed, whispering to them: “How can we be sure there aren’t more? Or that one didn’t already switch with someone?”
Bral keeps quiet listening to Van Richten's wisdom regarding carrionettes. Then follows him back to Jander's.
"We can't stay around here all day," Bral says. "If this really is the reincarnation of Tatyana, then we might be leading Strahd right to her and putting her in arms way. At the moment we know he is after the book, but would he continue to go after the book, this close to the reincarnation of his obsession?
It did not take long for him to catch up to us after first acquiring the book. He could be here at any moment."

Baudric nods, "True, although that's assuming he doesn't already know she's here and is just biding his time for some reason. But either way, probably not actually much safer with us, but is there somewhere she would be safe? Or something we can do to make her safer here? If we can do that, we should be able to return to that ghost to claim the sword." He pauses for a moment, looking more grim, "And, perhaps, giving our companions the rest they deserve."
Van Richten pauses for a moment. "Return to the ghost? Either way, you should be safe within Vallaki's walls. This place used to house a coffin maker who housed vampire spawn working for Strahd. Jander saw to their end and he's made this a safe place. Perhaps you could rest here for the night and then resume your journey the next day. I'm curious about this ghost though. Tell me more."

"Yes, I doubt if she would be very safe with us." Robin speaks up. She looks to the Dr. "Where would you suggest she go to find a safe location from this land's lord?"

Baudric, you find all four needles from the dolls.
