"It's nothing a good bath won't fix. Thank you, I Appreciate the offer young-un. But a sip of the old brew has me right as rain for now. So... who or what are we after? Peculiar folk the denizens of these halls."
Letting go of his friend's hand, Haughlin takes on a serious face, "We've picked up a few trinkets that might help, but I've no idea what they do, currently. We have more pressing matters. Before the gnomes can help Phandalin any further, they need our help. There's a shapeshifter somewhere in these halls, it attacked the kings."
He paces back and forth, voice loud over the roar of the waterfall, "It disguised itself as a rug, attacked the kings then made its escape. It could be anywhere, or anything."
"Best we get too it then eh!? Hahaha, aww today's turning out alright! So... how do we find a shape changer? Can't say I've ever encountered such a thing before"
Agmar takes a few minutes to explain the paths he's walked and who he's spoken with to both verify he isn't the changeling, and to remove duplication along previously trodden paths.
(Just to check ... Haughlin are you wearing the necklace you found?)
"Looks like you've done a good job of scouting the rest of these caves, thankfully we haven't come across any trouble like you have. Looks like this might be the last room to check out" A cheery looking dwarf shouts over the waterfall as she nods her head back towards the room behind here filled with large casks. "Ruby Hammerwhacker is me name, pleasure to meet a fellow Dwarf about these parts."
(OOC: Haughlin is indeed wearing the amulet. He put it round his neck and tucked it into his shirt for safekeeping.)
"As Ruby said, we've not had much luck in rooting out the shapechanger. We've been prodding and zapping everything we come across to see if anything reacts, but nothing so far. Just have this room full of barrels to check then we can head back to the workshop." He smiles at Agmar and his other companions, "Once we've found this creature, we can catch up."
You enter into the barrel filled room and can see twelve forty-gallon barrels set into wide alcoves dug into the sides of the room. Each barrel is secured to the wall by a wooden brace. There are 3 alcoves, one on the North wall, one East and another on the South all with 4 barrels each. As you look around the room, you can see the barrels on the south wall have all been tapped with spigots.
"Oh ho ho, what have we hear... do you think these casks have... ale? A gnomes brew house? Now this is more like it!" Agmar becoming quite excitable, before composing himself a little too late before the others notice his enthusiasm.
"Ahem* Did you say what kind of beastie we are hunting? Hehe, its been a long day already. Shall we take a peek inside for our elusive mark?"
Agmar - you pick up a strong familiar scent coming from the room, it takes you a moment to recognise where you have smelled it before and then it comes back to you. It's the same heavy aroma that was in the air within the kitchen, particularly the purple mushrooms that were being crushed.
"hmmmmmm, that's odd.... *mumbling* red for squeezing, green for flattening, purple for storing. *\mumbling*." Agmar proceeds to the nearest barrel, and inspects muttering away to himself, taking a drag of his pipe, a quizzical eyebrow arched as he tries to piece together something that for more scholarly types would come much quicker. A moment passes, before the adjacent eyebrow rises to meet the it's twin!
"AHA! I've seen these before! When I was looking for you lot, I stumbled into the kitchens. The cooks were making stuff with the mushrooms from outside. Pressing the green ones for what looked like some sort of food, maybe bread or something like that. The Red ones were being juiced and the purple ones were being stuffed into Big barrels. A peculiar aroma, and if my nose is to be trusted, that small in here should mean these are all filled with purple mushrooms. Can you smell them too? Maybe we take a look? Perhaps even a wee nibble?" He declares, slapping the side of the barrel looking thoroughly pleased with himself. Without waiting for the adulation he rightly or wrongly seems to feel deserving of, Agmar produces a small dagger and begins to set about checking the barrel.
"We're not sure what the creature looks like, other than it's a shapechanger and can look like probably anything." Haughlin says to Agmar. "When it attacked the kings, it was in the shape of a rug, but we've not come across any rugs, nor signs of anything else out of place so far."
Haughlin walks around the room, inspecting the barrels one by one.
Investigation: 21
"Maybe we shouldn't eat anything from the barrels, we don't know what these mushrooms will do to us."

As Haughlin heads over to the Northern wall to inspect the barrels, Agmar heads to the South wall and Ruby takes the Eastern wall.
You all begin inspecting the barrels without much concern the Northen and Eastern barrels all appear to be full from the sound you hear back after hitting the barrels. The southern walls are a different story all four have spigots attached, dripping a sweet alcoholic purple liquid.
The 3 of you make your way through the barrels kicking, prodding and zapping each one with little occurance until Haughlin move's to the 4th barrel on the northern wall. You reach out cast your spell, as you have done so many times before. As your fingers touch what should be the hard wooden surface of the wine barrel you feel a sticky, fleshy substance that begins to shudder against your touch drawing your hand in. With little time to react the front of the "barrel" warps into a gaping maw and bites down on your hand. Attack: 16 Damage: 10
(Congrats, you found the shape shifter! Roll Initiative! How do you want to do the 3 NPC's, want me to control them or do you guys want them?)
[OOC: fuck me, that was one helluva bite! Did my Shocking Grasp connect, or was this a surprise round for the beastie?]
Haughlin yelps in pain, startled as he was starting to think there was no shapeshifter.
Initiative: 18
[OOC: Depending on Initiative order, we could split them between the two of us, so you're not having to do too much. Can't evenly split 3, so I don't mind taking 2. Where Agmar rolls for Initiative could help us split them so we're working in order?]

Pete quickly reacts to Haughlins yelp, stashing his bottle of booze in a pocket and drawing his bow in one fluid action as he moves closer to the northen barrels firing an arrow at the creature.

As Pete's arrow zips past Haughlin into the creature, releasing his hand, out of nowhere a strong wind current whips up around his feet and carries him swiftly away from the beast. (bonus action to use Tempestuous Magic feature to fly 10ft to F4 - No opportunity attacks allowed.)
As he floats through the air, angered by his own complacency, three small orbs of lightning form in front of Haughlin and launch towards his foe:

As you activate the spell multiple balls of light spring from your hand along with the magic missiles. The 3 balls of magic strike true against the creature, it hissing with the impact of each one while the balls of light spin harmlessly around Haughlin.
As Haughlin reels back from the creature blood dripping from his arm Donnabella begins to concentrate pointing out towards him casting cure wounds healing 8wounds. As the healing magic resonates around Haughlin a small static charge shoots out from Donnabella’s hand zapping everyone.
”Ow what the heck was that!?” Ruby shouts as she charges into position to strike the creature with her trusty hammer. (Moving to F2) Attack: 12 Damage: 3.
The mimic screeches once more has Rubys hammer connects before lashing out with a tongue-like pseudopod Attack: 8 Damage: N/A
Ruby deftly ducks out the way avoiding the sticky appendage
