Pal's nose twitches when he notices the odd coloration of their skin. He will file that bit of information away for later. For now he will squint at them, full of suspicion. Pal will then say, "That's a start..." He'll raise the empty potion bottle to his eye and peer through it like a spy glass, "But I'm watching you Mr. Litch & Mr. Wight!" Pal snatches the bottle away and turns to the rest of the group, "Alright, shall we go enjoy the rest of the attractions?"
Viola smiles warmly at the her very determined furry friend. "Let's go over there, that sounds dope, come friends, let's visit the calliope." Viola rhymes to the others and dances away playing her violin.
"Well... Thanks." Davis says as the glow on his body slowly fades. He nods to their hosts, then glances to the others. "Shall we get back at it, where do you all want to go next?"
On the way over to the next attraction Pal will say to the group, "I still don't trust them. You can put all the make-up and butterfly wings in the world on a pig, but it's still a pig. Something untoward is going on here... As my father always said, 'By the twitching of my nose, something wicked this way goes...' My nose has been twitching all night. Keep your eyes open folks or we might each of us lose something more."
Burly will escort you out of the staff area, again waving his hand at the thorny thicket to create a passage through.
But just outside the thicket, he removes his helmet again, revealing a worried expression. “You’re absolutely right, Mr Rabbit, sir. Bad things have been happening at the carnival for awhile now, and the bosses know more than they’re telling, but their hands are tied somehow. You’re the first people I’ve met who might be able to set things right.”
At this point Burly hesitates and glances around to see who might be within earshot before saying quietly, “Witch and Light are good guys, but maybe you can get them to spill the beans if you got a little leverage on them.”
Pal will look at the large bugbear and say, "I like your style. In your experience as an employee you must have come across something we can use as leverage, any ideas?"
“Yeah I’ve got an idea,” says Burly, still continuing to glance about.
“Mr Witch carries a magical pocket watch with him, he needs it to run the carnival and if we could get ahold of it he would do anything to get it back.”
“Mind you, I don’t condone theft, but if it’s our plan to give it back then it’s not really stealing, right?”
“As for who else to let in on a plot,” Burly continues, in response to Davis. “I’m sure that Dirlagraun the displacer beast, Candlefoot the clown, and Palasha the mermaid would be willing to help. They’re good eggs and would want to help the carnival.”
"I liked the displacer beast when I met them." Davis says with a frown. "I don't like this idea of stealing either, but, as you said, if it is for the greater good of the carnaval, then I could get on board with the plan." He glances back the way they had just come from, towards the thicket that now hides the wagons again. "I would want to meet these others, prior to agreeing to bring them in on it though, just to make my own opinion of them you see..."
"Stealing from thieves to get what we want? That sounds like a plan but I am also very wary about messing with things beyond out understanding..." Calanon says as he moves his hands away from the hilt of his weapon, slowly crossing his arms.
"I think Candlefoot is at the Hall of Illusions tonight, and Palasha is at Silversong Lake, of course. But we don't exactly have all night to make new friends. The way I see it, there will be only 2 opportunities to act: during the Big Top Extravaganza, which should be starting pretty soon now, and at the end of the night, the Crowning of the Witchlight Monarch. Those are the only times when Mr Witch goes on the move and becomes vulnerable."
"Then let's be off to the hall of illusions." Davis says with a nod. "Let's see if we can at least make a couple new friends before this first chance comes. I'd like to try for this then, so that, if we fail, we have a second chance at the end of the night."
Burly points you in the right direction and then leaves you to it. “I’ve got to get back to my duties, but I’ll meet you at the Big Top extravaganza, it’ll be starting in about an hour. During the show we can see if there’s a plan for when Mr Witch heads back to the wagon.”
Hall of Illusions
This large tent is painted with a mural of shifting images that show grinning faeries diving into pools of color. The helical stripes of the tent’s pointed canopies rotate in spirals, and the whole display seems designed to befuddle onlookers. A clown dressed in muted garb stands at the tent’s entrance, blinking at you. All the color appears to have leached out of his skin, hair, eyes, and apparel, giving him a strangely monochromatic look.

As Viola notices the others weren't going to the calliope with her she dances back and follows them to the Hall of illusions "Hi there friend, you look a bit pale, what happened to you, tell me your tale." She rhymes, looking compassionately at the monochromatic clown. Persuasion to make him tell his tale: 8
The clown silently begins to pantomime in response. He gestures to his throat and then shakes his head. He then opens and closes his mouth several times with hand gestures to indicate things - words? - coming out, and then shrugs at you with a sad smile. Then he holds up his hole-punch and thumbs the Hall of Illusions behind him, and eyes you expectantly.

Pal will march past any who stand in line awaiting their turn in the Hall of Illusions. When he passes the miming clown he will say, "VIP coming through. You can put that hole-puncher away kid, we get in free." Should the clown or any one else attempt to stop him, Pal will say,
"EXCUSE ME, MR. WITCH IS A PERSONAL FIREND OF MINE AND HE SAID WE CAN RIDE FOR FREE." in his best Karen voice.
"Never mind him." Davis says with a glance to their rude companion. He eyes the clown for a moment. "Let me put a shot in the dark, you lost all of your color somehow, as well as your voice, here at the carnaval... Just nod once for color and once more if your voice was taken here as well."
"Burly tol dus to speak with you about an idea of getting some leverage on the carnaval's two masters." Davis says in a softer voice, moving in closer to the clown. "He believes those two know more than they are letting on, and, that, with some sort of leverage, we might be able to convince them to spill what they know. Will you aid us?"

The clown gives a melancholy sort of smile and gives two distinct nods. He makes another sort of apologetic-seeming shrug.
