Razi will go somewhere in the middle so as best to support either the front or the back in case of attack.

Caine raises an eyebrow at the priest on the high platform.
”Hey there, padre.” Caine calls over to the priest. “You okay up there.”
But then the height of that platform sinks in. Caine quickly drops into a crouch and looks around the rest of the undercroft, very aware now of the shadows.

Razi runs his fingers through his hair and puts on his best, friendly smile. "Hey there, friend! We heard you from upstairs and thought maybe you needed some help. Would you come down here and talk to us? We were sent to Barovia to aid the people here... maybe we can start with you?" Persuasion: 6

Jim tilts his head, "That's a little creepy. Normally people introduce themselves rather than say things like 'I can smell your blood.' Why don't you come out of the shadows?"

Nelyna takes note of the height of the pedestal. It may be too high for them to reach the priest but maybe not too high to see exactly what he is doing on top of the pedestal. She closes her eyes and in her mind's eye pictures a beautiful, snowy owl. She murmurs the incantation as she prepares the spell of Find Familiar. When she is finished, a snowy owl appears out of nowhere, hooting softly. It lands on her outstretched arm. She communicates with it silently, and it takes off, flying up to the pedestal and the priest. Her own eyes cloud over as she sees what the owl sees as it approaches the frightened priest.

Caine's attention swings from the shadows to the figure talking about their blood.
"Are you chained up over there?" Caine calls.
He turns to the others, and in a much lower voice says "Talking about smelling blood? Is that a vampire thing?"
Caine moves to the side of the room, his hand absently reaching back and rubbing the nape of his neck. As much as he doesn't like shadows, they have their uses. He tries to slip around the edge of the room to get a better look at the figure on the pedestal without being seen.
Razi steps a little closer. "Our blood? Good sir, we have heard that these lands suffer under the curse of vampirism. Are you so afflicted? Can we aid you in any way?"

Confused as always, Razi finally realizes there are two people down here with them, not just one. He withdraws a few paces back and looks up at the priest. "I'm sorry, goodbrother. We intend no threat upon you or your son. As I said, we a travelers, summoned to Barovia to end the curse and help the people here. Would you consider coming down to talk with us? Perhaps we could head upstairs so we do not further antagonize the... boy?"

"Ah!" Jim exclaims. "He is your son! I did wonder how he ended up down here."
He then takes a step back, and whilst waving one hand behind his back, he mutters under his breath. Suddenly the smell of garlic fills the air. It's a heady and pungent smell that Jim hopes will disguise the smell of their blood.

Caine looks from the priest down to other figure and back up to the priest.
"Anyone else getting the vibe that the old pastor here is up on that pedestal to keep out of reach of his son?" Caine asks.
He moves through the shadows a little more, keeping an eye on the son now more than the priest, waiting for the priest to answer Razi's questions before acting.

Caine's happy to follow closely behind Sleet
(By my count that makes the order: Sleet, Caine, Razi, and Nelyna with Jim to slot in somewhere)
Jim shrugs his shoulders, "I can go before or after Nelyna, which ever she is more comfortable with."

Nelyna nods gratefully at Jim and moves to go ahead of him so that he brings up the rear.

”You hiding from something up there?”
As Jim climbs down the staircase behind everyone else he notices that gaunt shape in the far corner.
"Is there someone down here with us?" he calls out. "Please, we mean no harm."

whispers.. "that guy is full of crap, we have to be pretty ripe by now, no way he can smell our blood."
