"Can you take Sildar on your back Krull? We should make haste to the cart and leave this wretched place. We'll question Sildar as soon as we get back to the road." Wolfe says as they start to make their way back. "Mau, could you keep an eye out for any pursuers?" Perception to spot pursuers: 22
"as long as we don't stay here I will" and he grabs and lifts Sildar like a sack of potatoes and holds him on his back and starts moving towards the exit(do I need to roll strength check?)
Mau nods towards Wolfe at his suggestion, and falls back from the group once they leave the cave ensuring that there are no would be pursuers. “Remember the path here was trapped, be careful on the way back.”
You hurry through the remembered path, the baying of the wolves in the distance. Eventually it disappears and around 2 hours later you find yourself back at the cart. It is as you left it.
Sildar gasps for breath, and wipes his mouth. He grabs a water skin and drinks deeply. "Many thanks to all of you. The bastards! They were waiting for us, for Gundren. I knew we made a good decision hiring you! We must get to Phandalin - I give you my thanks and a reward for escorting me to Phandalin. It's not far from here."
The cave you left is fresh in your mind, and you think back to the failures and successes, and can't help but feel yourselves stronger, more confident....better somehow.
You all made it to Level 2! You can apply this on your next long rest.
As they get back to the road Wolfe helps Sildar to get as comfortable as possible on the cart and takes the reins to get the oxen going again, hoping to reach Phandalin before nightfall. "That was a bit more exciting than I had expected when signing on for transporting equipment to Phandalin, good work though everyone, you did well, all of you, perhaps adventuring is a career for us all." Wolfe says with a smile and a sigh of relief as you all get going again. "Yes, Gundren, where did they take him?" Wolfe says as Mau starts questioning Sildar.
As they get back to the cart Edryd gets everything in order quickly. "Sildar, I believe you all have been holding out on us. You say they were waiting for Gundren... Why would these creatures be waiting for the dwarf? What is special about him... I knew back at the tavern there was more to this story"He walks quickly as they talk, ready to find a safe place to rest.
(Roughly what time of day is it and do we have any idea how far from Phandalin we are?)

Finally back to the cart, Rabbit also grabs some water from her waterskin and rests a bit. "I'll just be glad to make it to Phandalin. Let's go!" She gives Sildar a grin. "I hope part of that reward you mentioned is a luxury room in Phandalin's finest inn! After all those arrows in my back."
She tries to find a comfortable - or relatively comfortable - spot in the cart for the ride.
Before leaving the area Mau marks any large rocks/boulders or tree (whatever is available) with warnings of a Goblin cave in thieves cant.
"What happened to Gundren? Where did the goblins take him?" Mau asks of their employer during the travels towards Phandalin
Thieves cant is not a written language but a shorthand that uses finger gestures and hand signs to communicate, as well as a verbal coding system. But you can mark some basic signs on trees, rocks, and the ground as you go.
Sildar heaves himself into the wagon, his body aching, weary, and drained. He holds up his hands as if to ward off the deluge of questions. "Yes, yes. I know you have many questions and I will answer them. I do not wish to tarry long here, we should make for Phandalin as soon as possible if we wish to beat the night. I will tell you what I can on the journey."
Rabbit, Wolfe - are you taking the reins again?
Sildar settles amid the supplies and begins. "To fully understand, one must go back to the history of this area. More than five hundred years ago, clans of dwarves and gnomes made an agreement known as the Phandelver's Pact, by which they would share a rich mine in a wondrous cavern known as Wave Echo Cave. In addition to its mineral wealth, the mine contained great magical power. Human spellcasters allied themselves with the dwarves and gnomes to channel and bind that energy into a great forge, where magic items could be crafted.
Times were good, and the nearby human town of Phandalin prospered as well. But then disaster struck when ores swept through the North and laid waste to all in their path. A powerful force of orcs, reinforced by evil mercenary wizards, attacked Wave Echo Cave to seize its riches and magic treasures. Human wizards fought alongside their dwarf and gnome allies to defend the forge, and the ensuing spell battle destroyed much of the cavern. Few survived the cave-ins and tremors, and the location of Wave Echo Cave was lost."
Sildar goes on to describe a few more tidbits of information at your questioning. These are listed below:
- The three Rockseeker brothers - Gundren, Tharden, and Nundro - recently located an entrance to the long-lost Wave Echo Cave, site of the mines of the Phandelver's Pact.
- Klarg, the bugbear who leads this goblin band, had orders to waylay Gundren. Sildar heard from the goblins that the Black Spider sent word that the dwarf was to be brought to him. Sildar doesn't know who or what the Black Spider is.
- Gundren had a map showing the secret location of Wave Echo Cave, but the goblins took it when they captured him. Sildar believes that Klarg sent the map and the dwarf to the chief of the Cragmaws at a place called Cragmaw Castle. Sildar doesn't know where that might be, but he suggests someone in Phandalin might know. He mentions it is too bad you were unable to keep any goblins alive, as they would also likely know the location - or general whereabouts - of the castle.
- Sildar's contact in Phandalin is a human wizard named Iarno Albrek. The wizard traveled to the town two months ago to establish order there. After the Lords' Alliance received no word from Iarno, Sildar decided to investigate.
"So finding Gundren means find the magic cave..well for me since gundren isn't here means my job hasn't finished yet.****y a part of it.." says Krull trying to see if he can fix his handaxe temporarily
(Yes, Rabbit will sit with Wolfe to help drive the cart. Mostly Wolfe though.)
As Sildar speaks, she interjects. "Some goblins live. Someone could go back."
Rabbit shakes her head at Krull. "Our job - mine at least - was to get the cart and supplies to Phandalin. Not sure what job you took."
She then continues. "And you have it backwards. Whoever goes looking has to find Gundren to find the magic cave. Or really just Gundren's map."
It's a moment before she continues, as though an after thought. "I mean, they're both in the same place, so whoever goes looking would surely grab both."
While doing some excellent cart driving assisted by Rabbit Wolfe listens to Sildar's tale with great interest. "But think of the wealth one could find in that magic cave. So if we wan't to pursue this we would wan't to speak to this wizard Iarno Albrek in Phandalin to learn where we can find Cragmaw castle where we find Gundren and his map, and then we find Wave Echo Cave and get really really rich and have a lot of fantastic adventures while getting there. What do you say?" Wolfe says and looks at the others.

(Wolfe can help Krull get Sildar up on his back but I think goliaths also have double carrying capacity or something like that. :-)
(You are correct I count as one size larger when it considers lifting dragging or pushing )
Mau nods towards Wolfe at his suggestion, and falls back from the group once they leave the cave ensuring that there are no would be pursuers. “Remember the path here was trapped, be careful on the way back.”
Edryd topples to the bottom trying to catch himself on any sort of foot or hand hold on the way down.

When he arrives at the bottom he groans at the inconvenience but doesn't seem too bothered by the dirt and blood that is building up on his armor.

Keeping it as simple as possible so “goblin caves, beware”
As with the original journey Mau walks alongside the caravan keeping a careful eye on the tree line and the brush for more goblins.
Overhearing Rabbit talking to Sildar “I can head back and once night comes, take one of them in the dark for questioning.”
