After circling around for a while, you find footprints in the soft earth. Evidently Thorn neglected to even put shoes on before rushing out of the house. The footprints are small, perhaps belonging to a seven year old child, but spaced relatively widely apart, suggesting that the child had been running.
The trail leads you into the untidy hedges of a tall brick row house that has seen better days. Its windows are dark. It has a gated portico on the ground floor, and the rusty gate is slightly ajar. The houses on either side are abandoned, their windows and doors boarded up.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Xai'Bo sneaks up to one of the windows to try and see in with his dark vision whilst he waits for the others to come up with a plan. He still doesn't really know them so keeping slightly apart seemed the best thing for now.
Ruel was conflicted on the one hand this appeared to be a child in distress but on the other hand there were a few things that weren't stacking up in the back of his mind. The child's innate magic abilities, the trail of the brother that seemingly lead back to the house that he was running from in the 1st place, he was turning this over in his mind when Melantha came up with a very valid point about the parents.
Perhaps they had been overcome by the fog and were unable to leave, in that case there was potentially a young boy, a baby and parents trapped within this house that needed rescuing. A big part of Ruel said that he should be in here straight away but as Brother Moonrunner said being a servant on Torm meant that you were virtuous and help those who needed it but it didn't mean that you were an idiot.
Ruel sat back and awaited Roses reply to Melanthas question with interest.
Watching Xai’Bo look for tracks, Day would’ve lit his lantern and casted control flames to halve its light distance to 30 feet of bright light and 30 feet of dim. In doing so he hopes the fog will be easier to see through without them becoming a beacon of light in this dark place. Following him to the house, he will snuff the light with the same cantrip so Xai’Bo can look inside. In a soft whisper Day says, “If you see a fireplace or anything flammable inside let me know, I can give you some light in there.”
Sirron nodded slightly when he heard Melantha's question, it was rather curious as to why only the two children had fled. Then he began to think about the various reasons that the children would have run away leaving their parents and a baby in the house while it was starting to fill up with fog, two of said ideas made him shake his head slightly before glancing towards the gated portico for a moment. After a couple seconds he turns towards the untidy hedges and frowns before taking a step towards them. As he did so he pulled out his flute and smiled softly down at it before turning towards the rest of the party with a curious look on his face.
"I know now might not be the best time for it... but do you think the kid might leave his hiding place if I was to play a little something? If he indeed was the first one to have left then perhaps he saw something in the mist that had caused him to feel the need to run and hide from it."
"Mother was in the basement when this started. I think she might have made this happen. And Father...Father hasn't spent much time at home lately. He's probably in the tavern." Rose says. She looks sad for a moment, and then abruptly says "We're not allowed down there! She'd be angry!"
As far as you can tell, Rose seems to genuinely believe her story, but the scattered chain of events doesn't make sense. You wonder if the fog really is as harmless as she claims.
(I stuffed up here: The trail initially leads away from the house but then becomes confused and loops back into itself, then eventually heads back and stops in the hedges.)
Peering into the window, you spy an oak-paneled room that looks like a hunter's den. Mounted above the fireplace is a stag's head, and positioned around the outskirts of the room are three stuffed wolves. Two padded chairs draped in animal furs face the hearth, with an oak table between them supporting a cask of wine, two carved wooden goblets, a pipe rack, and a candelabrum. A chandelier hangs above a cloth-covered table surrounded by four chairs. Two cabinets stand against the walls.
Xai’Bo whispers back to Day. “Looks like a hunters den in there. Lots of furs and a few stuffed wolves. There is a fireplace but I can see a lot already, and no sign of life, either the child or anyone else”.
He moves away from the house back towards the hedge to double check the tracks. “Hm, the child may not have gone as far as the house”, he says to those present, pointing at the end of the tracks as they enter the hedge.
Day lowers to one knee holding out his right hand, while snapping the fingers of his left. His familiar Fawx poofs into his hand with a soft burst of amber smoke. “Young child, if you come out of the hedges my pet Falcon will keep you company. Your sister is nearby, trust me when I say we mean you no harm.”
Ruel after listening to Rose's reply is confident that the girl believes her tale but there is definitely more to this.
Ruel watches as Day kneels at the bushes and as his falcon gracefully appears on his outstretched hand. Ruel makes his way towards him, and after hearing him speak, he turns and speaks.
"It looks like we have found the other little bird who has left the nest."
Ruel also takes the knee "Come little one your sister needs you we mean no harm." hoping that his warm words along with Day's will bring the boy out and the mystery will become clearer.
After hearing that the child hadn't likely gone back into the house Sirron let out a soft sigh of relief and raised the flute up as though he was about to start playing it. Before he had a chance to actually start playing he noticed that the hedge was beginning to rustle and with a faint sigh he lowered the flute and cautiously moved towards the entrance of the house, hoping that whatever was moving in the hedge was either the child or one of the other members of the party. "Even if he didn't go back inside, why hide near the house? Well it might be safer than hiding in the woods alongside the wolves and whatever else calls the woods here home..." He thought aloud.
After a long moment, a small boy darts out of the hedges, past you, and towards Rose, where he clings to her legs. Rose crouches down to hug him. "Don't run like that! You scared me!" she says.
"...'m sorry...couldn't find you..." Thorn responds, in a soft, hiccupy voice.
Xai’Bo wanders over towards Sirron after hearing his comment. “At this point I am not certain if this is even their house or if they live somewhere else.”, he says with a frown. “Didn’t the girl say there was another brother and her mother still there?”
He wanders to Rose and kneels down, mimicking the others talking to children. “Is this your house?”, he asks Rose, gesturing at the house he just took a look in.

Melantha's expression of concern turned partially to suspicion as they followed the party to where the house is.
"With the mist 'flooding' into your home, why didn't your parents run out too?"

Oron will slowly lead everyone inside the house when the decide to enter. Keeping an eye out for anything fishy.

As Melantha awaits for Rose to answer before they set foot on the entrance to this house, their entire body faces the girl.
Melantha uses Limited Telepathy to input simple ideas of toys into Rose's mind...that is if she is someone with a mind.

Oh. Confusion. That supposedly would make sense; why would one think of toys at a time like this?
That, and the fact that a responding mind is there, is evident enough that Rose is a real person.
The suspecting expression soften as Melantha watched the brother reunite with his sister.
