Edrik's second shot is another narrow miss, but it proves to matter little. Rasp's blade is the last thing the specter feels in this mortal realm. As the cold steel strikes the undead, it utters one last rage-filled shriek before vanishing altogether.
Combat has ended.
Elonath immediately leaps from Barkas's pack and flies into the room where he sits on the floor and motions with one wing toward a particular point on the pillar.
Upon seeing the specter vanish, Matthias let out a deep sigh of relief. Part because no one died, part because he did not die, part because they can finish this mission finally, part because Faloniir did not get the final shot. Upon entering the room once again, he'd walk up to the iron chest with no fear. He'd ready himself for any other attack or trap and attempt to open this chest.
DEX save for Matthias 25 (and potential damage 12)
The moment he touches the chest, Matthias feels the energy in the room begin to spike. His hair stands on end, and he hears a crackling sound to his left and right. Lightning shoots forth from each pillar, but with cat-like reflexes the ranger leaps backward and avoids being struck.
Elonathgrowls angrily at Matthias and, once again, motions towards one of the pillars.
"Matthias, don't --" Eldeth starts. She winces as the lightning hits him. "The specter won't have been the only safeguard." She'll look at the pillars. "What do we need to do, Elonath?"She'll summon her mage hand and send it towards the pillar, staying out of the room herself.

Faloniir will give a wry smile to Matthias, confident that he was thinking the same thing, Good thing Rasp took that thing out and not him, I'm already three down! Gotta get in the game...
Upon doing almost a twirl back-step to dodge the lightning, Matthias would let loose nervous laughter."Okay then...! That specter WAS NOT the only defense! Should have known coming from a lich. My bad! My bad..." He'd continue to shake off the nerves, backing away to the wall slowly. Looking to Elonath he would simply shrug. "Hey, no harm no foul. Now we know it's just touching the chest activates it."
The swipe that sent the specter dissolving into the air continued until Rasp’s blade struck the stone floor. The hunched Kenku slowly stood, one hand instinctively reaching into a pocket of the cloak covering the custom-cut armor fit for a Kenku. Few people made jokes about Rasp being bird-boned for long, though.
Rasp cast a stern look towards Matthias. The Kenku didn’t meet the ranger’s eyes - Rasp’s attention was dedicated on the hallways and corridors, prepared to spot and guard against any potential threats. “While I appreciate your skills, Matthias, it is wise to value caution and forethought before diving into any activity. My duty on this mission is to defend you, and I am unable to if actions aren’t properly communicated. Running forwards without the chance to regroup will never end without consequence.”
Rasp glanced towards the Druid and the Wizard. “This applies to you, as well. Your skills are extremely valuable. I request you permit me to use mine - I offer protection. From here on, I suggest I accompany those tasked with scouting ahead.”
"Oh I'm not going in," Eldeth assures Rasp, her eyes fixed on the chamber. "Thought I was clever enough using the rope. Though I still think it might be worth another try if the specter's gone now, but if Elonath's got wisdom to share, I'm all for turning that lightning off."
Eldeth directs her attention to the area that seems to be Elonath's focus. There, barely perceptible, is a small button in the surface of the pillar. Looking in the same general area in the second pillar, the wizard spies another button.
Matthias would simply nod along to Rasp, picking up an arrow that was not damaged in the fight. He twirls the arrow in his fingers and looks to the others. "You think I can try walking around? Maybe there is some sort of switch upon that one pillar Elonath pointed-out?"He would question, sort of at a loss with his own equipment and abilities left to him after this trialing dungeon.
Matthias would try to compare one pillar to the other, trying to figure out if there was something special that would turn off the trap. (I assume Mattias spied the buttons lol)
Assuming the others share what they've seen, Faloniir will volunteer to press one of the buttons, "Mayhaps we should press them at the same time? Saville?"Faloniir will approach a button and indicate the other pillar with a nod of his head and a questioning look upon his face.
If Matthias and the rest are amenable to this course of action Faloniir will press his button in conjunction with Matthias.
Matthiashas no trouble spying the well-disguised buttons, and Elonathtakes flight and--rather awkwardly--tries to flap her wings in such a way that will allow her to hover near one of the buttons. The ranger and the fighter step forward and press the buttons; immediately the humming energy in the room ceases. Elonath then lands atop the iron chest, looks at each of the party members, and emits a pleasant but muted chirping noise.
"All right, that's the lightning taken care of, next go is probably the lock. I think someone will have to get close for that. But please no actual opening it, let's leave that for the mage hand, I'm sure there's something nasty inside the chest."
"Elonath, come back here." Wobbly, tottering Barkas walks over to look at the chest, flattens out the spot on his backpack and motions for Elonath to come back to his perch. "Come over here, to safety. Whew! That ghosty looking thing nearly sucked the life out of me!" Barkas has removed a ration and munches on it in the background, peeking over the shoulders of the larger members of the party, watching the chest with curiosity. He offers some to Elonath, occasionally eating a bite right after the pseudodragon, not even caring.

Edrik stows his bow away and walks carefully into the room. "I sure hope this goes better than my shots at that ghostly creature!" And he attempts to pick the lock.
As soon as he sets to work with his tools, Edrik can tell that the lock isn't actually locked. Maybe it's broken, or maybe the Duchess of Rot forgot to lock it, or maybe she was sure the specter and lightning bolts made the lock superfluous. Whatever the case may be, all that remains is to open the iron chest...

After studying the chest and its lock, Faloniir is confident that it's safe to move forward with opening the chest.
