The temple doors open and out step several locals and a few temple acolytes. The five of you hear many expressions of thanks and gratitude, and more than a few ask that Tymora's luck wash over you in the days ahead. They insist on giving you one potion of healing and a five-gallon cask filled with tej.
All seems to have returned to normal, and the guards have once again opened the gates that lead from Malar's Throat into Port Nyanzaru.
Carlos appreciates potions almost as much as Tej. He asked one of the acolytes. " Do you have any idea why these rotten guys choose to knock on your door among so many others? And where are your clerics? If they are here, I'm sure those undead wouldn't be much trouble for you."
Thoradin considers following after the fleeing undead, to either finish them off or better yet follow them all the way to their source and perhaps find a clue to the location of the item they were after, but ultimately decides against it as his rage ebbed and cooler thoughts prevailed. Perhaps another time, if there was another time, after he could talk to the others.
A young male acolyte responds shyly to Carlos. "Our cleric has joined a small expedition that is traveling inland via the River Tiryki. Tymora shines upon those who take risks."
Harq, floating along next to the others, disappointed at how ineffective his diamond was, asks, "What is your cleric searching for on their expedition? We, too, may be headed into the jungle soon."
The young acolyte shakes his head. "I do not believe he was looking for anything; he merely wished to offer up his capability to help and heal. The adventurers he accompanies are seeking an ancient maze created by Ubtao, the Chultan god who forsook us many decades ago."
“Well, things seem to be good here, should we head back to Monkey’s Fist and see if we can secure a guide? Whether Azaka is there to talk to, or we hire the halfling and his triceratops. But it would be good to have that part finished, then we can go see these dinosaurs. Apparently they are having races today?” Rawlings starts heading back.
Confident that the undead threat had been dealt with and her friends seeming okay Sarya lands with the others. "Well, off to the races then."She says with a smile and follows Rawlings, staying and asking a local about the way to the starting area. "That ancient maze sounded interesting, could it be the resting place of the Soulmonger mayhap."
" So, clerics and adventurers visited an ancient maze and never returned. The undead attacked the temple because they intruded the ruins or… someone knew there were no clerics in the temple. Hmm… " Carlos tugs his beard and thinks for a while. " I sense conspiracy and mystery but … they can wait after the race. And it's rude to bring booze to the tavern! Let's buy finger foods and have some fun! "
"Finger food?" Rawlings asks, "That sounds interesting. But yes, let us check out some of what this place has to offer before we head out into the jungle. And even though what you are saying about this temple does seem a bit intriguing, we already have a mystery to solve. Shall we?" And they (hopefully) make it to the dinosaur races...
The light mist continues to fall as the afternoon wears on. The dinosaur races bring a sudden and significant change to the city as hundreds and hundreds of spectators line the side of the race route, which runs around the four hills upon which the city is built. You learn that races come in three varieties: the four-legged dinosaur race (comprised mainly of triceratopses, ankylosauruses, and dimetrodons), two-legged dinosaur races (comprised mainly of hadrosauruses and deinonychuses), and the "unchained" race, in which any dinosaur may compete. You quickly discern that betting on these races is both legal and common.
(Odds will be provided if anyone is interested in placing a wager or two...)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(Sarya would definitely be willing to place a bet, but if possible she would snoop around in the street to get a sense on what to bet on. Persuasion: 23 I'm not sure we intended to go back to the Monkey's Fist yet though. The plan was to find a street vendor for som finger food to go with the cask of tej. :-)
Rawlings steps up to check out these incredible beings. She has never seen such creatures. Seeing a bluish colored triceratops with hunger in their eyes she decides to partake in the local custom and place a wager on the creature. She looks around trying to figure out how the process is done
Riding along on his broom, Harq is also both interested, and a bit excited, to watch, and make a small wager, on these races. Though he is also looking for a snack to go with some Tej with Sarya~
Thoradin watches the beasts with interest, having never seen such before, but is not about to waste any money betting on creatures whose capabilities he knows nothing about. Not that he was a betting dwarf in the first place.
Carlos narrows his eyes and watches these magnificent beasts. " I have a brother who is a wizard and really into animals. According to him, dinosaurs are more similar to birds rather than lizards. Like dragons, they are homeotherms. Sounds cool, right? I have no idea what homeotherms means though…" Although this is his first dinosaur race, Carlos has made many bets on horses, dogs and some strange mini Gelatinous cubes races back in Baldur's Gate. The cleric thinks he can use all those experiences on dinosaur race.
( Can Carlos use Animal Handling or Insight skill to get advantage on race?)
(So sorry for the delay, everyone. It's good to be back)
Everyone has had their fill of tej and some quality street food (although you're not entirely sure you could identify every kind of meat you've consumed). The dinosaur races will soon begin, and there's no lack of festivity in the air. The races, in order, will be as follows:
The four-legged dinosaur race...
The two-legged dinosaur race...
And, lastly, the unchained race...
Wagers as small as 1 copper piece and as large as 500 gold pieces are allowed.
Rawlings goes to check out the dinosaurs and gets drawn to the two-legged animals. Looking at the names of the animals racing, she can’t help but put a wager on Wee Willy Wukka. She walks up to the counter where it appears others are placing wages and puts 5 gold down on the hadrosaurus. She then heads over to the stands and waits to watch this crazy activity. Never in her life did she think she would see dinosaurs racing.
"Oh how interesting!"Harq says, looking over the dinosaurs. "I never thought I'd see one in the flesh! Though the odds are against us... when in Chult eh?"
He then places a bet on each race: 4g on Gorumi 4g on Two Rivers
