The slight trembling of her hands was leaving ink blots on her exam. Aithne firmed her grip on her quill and tried to focus on the questions. This was supposed to be where she excelled, wasn't it? But her nerves were very rapidly overwhelming her. Her hand hovered over the page before she crossed out several lines and scribbled a different answer beneath them.
((I'm going to use my one studying reroll on the lower of the two original results, so rolling again for Arcana-- not History, haha-- and hoping for a higher result! Fingers crossed! Arcana: 5))
Arvol has a bit of time left, so he goes back and sees if he can improve on the multiple choice section. (Arcana Check: 18 +3 from Student Die)
He smiles as he goes back over everything, the information coming back to him now. He waits until almost the end of the exam time before turning his in.
Fifty minutes passes pretty quickly when you're under pressure like this. But, you all manage to finish the test before Professor Lang calls time.
"Pens down, everyone. Please turn in your tests. I will be posting grades at 5:30 this afternoon. Take the rest of our allotted class time to celebrate or to pray, as the situation warrants. Thank you, have a great weekend."
Aelyn promptly storms out of the room, leaving everyone a little bewildered. Aurora speaks up.
"He'll be fine. He was just... very nervous. I'll go check on him."
"Uh, thank you, Miss Wynterstarr."
5:30 arrives, and the grades have been posted. Several of your classmates are gathered around the board outside the classroom trying to find their names. Some are joyous, some not so much. Finally, you all find an opening to move closer and find your scores.
Aithne Dresar - 100/100
Arvol Flintwind - 100/100
Ambre Rotz - 100/100
Aelyn Silversong - 100/100
Aklokloysius - 100/100
Much to your relief, you all aced your first exam at Strixhaven! While this is simply the first step of many, you should be proud of yourself for clearing this first hurdle with such resounding success, whether it was due to hard work, luck, or a mixture of both. You have learned so much already in just a few months, and you can feel your knowledge and power growing. Who knows what the next four years have in store for you?
For now, though, you all pat yourselves on the back, celebrate, and reflect on what you've learned and look forward to what you have yet to discover.
After reading the results Aelyn again runs out in the commons, screaming again, joyfully this time, throwing himself in the fountain of love. As Aurora comes along he runs to her and gives her a big wet hug as they collapse together in the grass.
Aithne felt like she'd been holding her breath since their exams had been turned over to Professor Lang. The utter relief at seeing her scores made her feel completely lightheaded. She'd done well. The late-night study sessions and color-coded note taking, the obsessive book reviews and the complete and utter panic over the test hadn't been for nothing. Taking a few careful steps off to one side of the notice board, she took a seat on the floor against the wall and tried very hard not to hyperventilate. They had to go through that again? Over and over until graduation? She was probably going to lose her mind before she ever earned her mastery.
Ambre pops in to see the scores, carrying a large box as she reads, "Nice!" she smiles, shifting the box in her arms. "How'd you guys do? Cad, Rosie, you guys better have passed. I still have no idea what I'm doing in the guild and I need your nonprofessional professional advice."

Arvol had felt pretty confident about his exam. There were a few things he wished he'd been more certain about, but he figured he did at least well enough to pass.
Finally moving in to see the scores, a smile crossed his face. "Great job Aithine! You aced it!" And then he sees his name, "And me as well!" It takes a bit longer for him to go over all the names and see that indeed all of his friends had aced the exam. "Well, that is very good. And you Aelyn were..." He looks around, but it seems once again Aelyn had run out of the room.
He scans the list again to see how his other friends had done - Rampart, Grayson, and Larine. (Assuming they are in this class.)
As he steps away, Arvol sees Aithne, sitting on the floor against the wall. He rushes over to her, kneeling down beside her. "Is everything alright Aithine?" He softly places a hand on her shoulder, looking very worried. He tries to look for any clues as to what might be wrong - did she slip? Does she look ill? (Investigation: 11 - probably pointless, but he's not quite as good at Insight.)
(Also, here is Arvol's Strixhaven sheet - updated for the first Exam complete!)
"I'm fine." Aithne patted Arvol's hand lightly. "Just... um... realizing that I might have a little bit of test anxiety." It was a serious understatement. She'd felt a level of panic that was equivalent to facing a firing squad. She could still recall the nausea and trembling. Surely that wasn't a normal response? Maybe she could talk to Aurora about techniques to combat performance anxiety? The dhampir was so confident on stage. Maybe she'd have some suggestions to help? Perhaps breathing exercises or something similar?
Aithne would gladly do anything to keep from feeling as though her heart was going to beat out of her chest. There had been times during the exam where her mind had gone blank and she could do nothing more than sit, gripping the quill with fingers that had gone numb under the pressure and pray that she'd remember the answer. It had been terrifying. Bringing herself back to the hallway, she suddenly realized she hadn't asked after any of their classmates; including Arvol. She'd been so caught up, she hadn't even checked for their results.
"Did you pass?" She asked, sitting up a bit straighter and tightening her hold on his hand. "Did everyone else?"
"Yes, I passed," Arvol says, trying to be reassuring to Aithne. "Aelyn, Ambre, and Klok all aced it just like us." He still keeps his hand resting on her shoulder, letting her hold it. He patiently stays kneeling next to her. He is a little bit relieved as she sits up. "You still have anxiety now? The test is over and you did fabulous!" He tries to sound enthusiastic.
"I think this is just relief." Aithne said with a self conscious laugh. "My legs feel like water." She bit her lip and hesitantly reclaimed her feet, exhaling only when her limbs actually held her upright successfully. Thank goodness. "But, we all passed! I'm so, so glad." She smiled at Arvol, brushing aside the nerves in favor of something unrelated to their exams. "I think your good luck charm helped."
"Should we do something to celebrate?" She suggested, then looked around for the rest of their classmates, spotting Klok after a moment and waving to the loxodon. "We could go to the Firejolt, maybe?"
Arvol gives Aithne a nervous smile. "Umm, thanks. I'm sure your good luck charm helped me too. Although it may have been the studying too." Happy to see Aithne back on her feet, he readily agrees with her suggestion. "Firejolt Cafe sounds perfect - we should have a little celebration!"
"See, Aelyn? I told you there was nothing to worry about!"Aurora giggles as the bard smothers her in a hug. "Oh, you poor thing, you hide a lot of anxiety under all that bravado, don't you? There, there..."
Cadoras and Rosie gather around their friend Ambre. "Of course we passed! Though Cad had some trouble keeping up with me during our study sessions!"The gnome teases.
"Can you blame me, Rosie? You read 400 words a minute! Maybe I should study with Ambre instead," Cadoras suggests, shooting a smile toward Ambre. Rosie gasps.
"Are you... study-dumping me Cadoras?! Oh, my poor little heart!" She groans, acting like she's about to fall over before catching herself at the last second and laughing.
"Well, that remains to be seen, Rosie. Maybe we don't need to see other people just yet! Anyway, Firejolt sounds great! We can talk while we walk. What did you need advice for, Ambre? I'll do my utmost to help!"
"And me, too!Me, too!"
The Firejolt Cafe is plenty busy today as lots of first years celebrate their passing or drown their sorrows in their caffeinated beverages of choice. Mina Lee catches your group coming in and approaches with a smile.
"Hey! I heard you trunk-slayers all aced your first exam. Congratulations! We'd better start calling you the 'Straight A Students,' I think!" She says, pointing over to a big table currently covered in empty mugs and plates. "I'm gonna clean up over there, and then you guys can have that table, okay? Oh, and Aelyn, Arvol, don't forget we have a club meeting tomorrow to distribute the latest edition of the Star."
"Wait... tomorrow? Saturday?" Arvol looks at Mina, completely panicked. "Early in the day though?" He tries to recall - with the exam and his planned date with Aithne he'd certainly not thought as much about the 'Strixhaven Star'.
"Thank you, Mina!" Aithne was oddly touched by the considerate gesture. And the nickname was quite humorous. Perfectly appropriate for their group of friends. Even Aurora, who'd joined their core group somewhat belatedly fit into the moniker seamlessly. While they waited on the table to be cleared, Aithne joined the line at the front of the cafe, considering her options. She'd completely missed the part of the conversation regarding the Strixhaven Star, too caught up in planning this impromptu celebration. Did the Firejolt sell cakes? What was appropriately celebratory?
"Anxiety? Me? How could you tell?" Aelyn says laughing, giving Aurora a wet kiss. "Hey, look, the others are heading for the Firejolt. Come let's go and celebrate." He says, giving Aurora another quick kiss before taking her by the hand, running over to the cafe.
"Hey, Mina, thanks, can you imagine, I did it, we all did." Aelyn says and gives Mina a semi-wet hug. "I'll cover for Arvol Mina, he has an important undercover mission tomorrow night." Aelyn says with a wink.
"Straight A students huh, if i'd be so lucky."Aelyn says as he sits down with Aurora and the others. "Still, has a nice ring to it." He says, taking his lute, playing some blues chords and starts another improv song.
"Now guess who the Slaadi exam did ace Aklokolysius strolling nature's ways and Ambre doing artificing nights and days and Aithne, always holding a book to her face and Aurora with her lovely and enchanting gaze and when there is a mystery then Arvol's on the case followed soon by Aelyn who's all over the place but when they come together they will Strixhaven amaze They are the Strixhaven A's, oh yeah They are the Strixhaven A's"
