Grahl moves to Otis, placing a hand on his shoulder as he moves close and walks halfway in front of him. Only looking at his distant relative a short time before placing his eyes on Gillian. He places himself between the two to somewhat try to break the tension of their confrontation.
Klok is right. We do not know what we face. Fighting Victor took a lot from all of us, and in the end something else took him down.
Grahl looks around at their recent battleground. Perhaps it will take us past the shield..If so we will need supplies.
After a moments pauze he will continue to move back to Patricia's body and help Roy carry it and looks back to the others. Well are we going or staying?
Klok smiles at Grahl and nods as he continues to take Otis' arm. "Indeed Grahl, indeed. Perhaps we can work out our feelings on the walk back....We need to work as a team and fighting amongst ourselves will only hinder that. We all have the same goal...keep in mind, yes."
Gillian stops, perhaps 90ft from the group and messages the various members except otis a similar message each:
“Do YOU also think I am the only unreasonable one here? That Otis isn’t exhausted and argumentative? I merely believe moving forward is what is needed, and rest will find us on the way, as this mountain isn’t merely a short walk away…
looking back at Otis, hurt by the insinuation that he doesn’t care about the village and it’s inhabitants…
“you stand proud and question my dedication to the saving of our friends and family?!? I pray everyone might live… but this is also reality otis, and people die each day… it is merely that I question the idea of the council being more right than our own instincts…if we are to save everyone it will come from within each of us, and not from the permission of the council”
calming down a bit; but still thinking Otis is lost in some type of illusion of being the council’s lapdogs…. “like I said earlier, I wish to check on brenden, then head to this mountain… it calls to my instincts… if you don’t trust me, again I present you the idea from my persepctice… that you don’t trust yourself or the grouping of us, or is your problem with me alone?” Gillian looks to the others to see if he is the odd man out, or if anyone else in the group has similar worries about groupthink or trust in their gut shinning through their eyes… even just one of them…
when Grahl stands between them…
”Grahl I thank you for your words, but why… why do you lecture me … and not lecture your nephew Otis? I would see you turn to face Otis and speak similar words or suggestions to be harmonious… of ‘the fight with victor taking it out of us’…. Of ‘Otis save your energy or your breath’, of ‘the group needs Gillian too’…” Gillian tears a bit, wondering why he bothers, but awaits a reply, unsure of why his instincts yet again are vilified by someone in the group.
Klok approaches Gillian and puts a hand on their shoulder. "Young Gillian, it is ok." Klok says calmly as a grandfather would to their grandchild "We trust you and your gut feeling. I for one will go with you to this mountain. I just think it wise to go back to town and stock up on supplies just in case. Victor was strong and we needed help from the unknown to take him down. We do not know what is out there or what is calling to you. Let us go to town and stock up on supplies then check the mountain."
Otis will quietly wait when old Klok takes his arm and speaks. Once everyone is ready he will start heading to town assisting the elderly and the tired. He will bring along the crib of golden scales and Victor's remains.
Otis remains skeptical in Gillian's change in character but can not detect any outside influence so will nod agreement to Old Klok's request to work together and Grahl's question of if we are going.
Grahl frowns, still not used to hearing voices in his head.
In response to Gillians spoken words he holds his head high and looks at them both I speak to you both. We are all weary from battle and on edge.

He then looks to Otis, and Otis is not one for subtlety with a quick glance to Victors remains Or patiencereferring to him being the first to throw punches. He grins at Otis and shakes his head The times i had to get you out of troublehe boasts jokingly to switch Otis's thoughts onto a better time even if just for a moment trying to lighten the mood
(i assume all will start moving at this point) Grahl will carry Patricia with Roy and head back to town (any conversation can still be done on the way but seems we all agree to return there first).
Gillian stays for a time standing still, in shock of the division of the group…
… after a long time, he speaks to himself under his breath… “nothings changed… still the outsider as always… still the strange one… why would I expect any different…”. He exhales a sighing laugh, and heads to the barracks to rest off his exhaustion.
Roy has been listening as the group tries to work out its issues.
“People are different when they’re afraid. Secrets that seemed harmless suddenly become a divide like a wide river.” He says this like mantra, something he’s heard before by rote.
“Courage, friends. Evil thrives in fear. So we must have courage, to trust and to understand.” He gives Otis a meaningful look. “Go find Gillian. Try to listen. It’s probably why he tries to talk to everyone in their head. He’s too used to having been ignored when he speaks aloud.” Roy shrugs. “He wants to be your friend, but it’s not easy for him.”
”Let Klok, Grahl and I report. This needs attending.”
"You sure you want me to go talk to him?", Otis will ask Roy when asked to go find Gillian. "It's me who he's angry at. And he is my friend. I don't remember anyone else in the archives with him when he would shut himself in for days when he got mad at someone."
Stepping up to Roy for a private comment only to Roy he will continue, "Honestly, ... I'm worried about him. This morning he Gillian of the archive so preoccupied with his magic he failed to see the concern he was causing people. During the fight, I tried to get him to contact me, he was too close and I wanted him to move further out."
Actual concern can be heard in Otis' voice along with some anger. "But he didn't. Heat of battle i thought. Then Victor does what i was worried about and jumps him. Victor should have killed him. You all saw that blow as it immediately healed. That should have ended him. I don't know if it's some magic he gained or something else. So I tell him to disengage as we all re-engage, he doesn't."
"We got Lucky with Victor. I don't know what took him out. Gillian got lucky. Then Gillian starts acting strange. No big deal, after battle emotions. But then he starts talking strange and I don't know if he's talking to himself or us. It all sounds vaguely prophetic, but disturbingly could make sense if it wasn't isolated statements. Then he wants to go to the mountain on a vague notion."
Otis will look towards Grahl and Falken, "It's not the magic he's using changing him is it? It'll tare him up inside if it's his magic. He loves it. But he's gonna get himself killed if he keeps acting like that."
Otis will shake his head sadly, "but if you think I should be the one to talk to him, I will."
Otis will leave the area where Brendan is retained and go find Gillian in the barracks.
Roy nods. “I know. He has secrets. He needs our trust anyway. I don’t believe I am off the mark when I say: he hears your every misgiving. Now he needs you to hear him. And you are exactly the person to do it.”
”Thank you Otis. I know you can manage. We’ll see you later.”
Falken has chosen to stay the neutral role for a moment as he listened to everything unfold, having lived a majority of his years on the outside like Gillian, he understood his frustrations. However, he also understood being prepared. He too felt they were all unprepared for the fight they just had and thought that, going forward, regardless of which side of the line they stood, they should try and remain as healthy and prepared as possible. When Otis addresses him, asking him about the magic changing him, Falken will answer. "As I'm sure you are aware, magic hasn't really been used inside the shield for some time. However, from personal experience." He stops to quickly reflect on the small bits of magic he would cast at home. "I don't think the magic he's casting is changing him. I actually think the lack of it might deal more of a blow mentally. I know I felt more alive during that fight, even if my stomach couldn't handle it afterwards." Falken chuckles as he makes his way over to Gillian.
"Listen here tallian..." He pauses for a chuckle that most likely doesn't come.
"No? Nothin? Yeah, it was a poor attempt. Listen, this reminds me of a funny story. When I was little, way before you were born, I was just like you. No one listened to me because I was the weirdo that liked messing with bottles and vials. The cool kids called me shorty mv vials... Yeah, wasn't a very clever bunch, but that's besides the point. One day I was messing with potions with the intent to make one to turn one of them into a sheep. I trusted my gut with the mixtures and I ended up turning myself into a 2 headed frog." He pauses and shivers a bit when he remembers the sliminess. "When I finally turned back I tried again, trusting my gut again, however, this time I didn't use it on myself, or anyone. I guess the moral of this story is, I never stopped trusting my gut, I just made sure I was more prepared the next time around." He pauses for a moment before continuing. To anyone listening to this nonsense, it would sound just like the noises of an old man rambling. "I guess what I'm trying to say here is, no one here is questioning your instincts, we just want to make sure that if we head out, we won't be caught with out wieners out in the cold." He pauses another moment before continuing. "I just want you to know, I'll stand by you. I got your back... thighs... You know, because I'm small."
Gillian can’t help but laugh a little at the old fart.
“Shorty Mc Vials? I like it… did you do rhymes as well as potions? … Falken sounds so… serious… Shorty it is!” He teases falk a bit before taking his words seriously…
“I tire of the council… and I don’t care if that offends the others, just as those not tired of the council don’t care if that offends me… it doesnt even cross their minds…”
”…it’s hard Falken… when you see many sides of a thing… I think we have to each trust ourselves, and then each other, and then the town, and last the council…”
he pauses thinking… “even if you do trust the council, Many of them know they can’t fix this! It is Us and we are alone in this!”
gillian steps away, back turned to him a few feet off… ”I don’t know why I bother explaining… Probably just be misinterpreted and rerembered later I’m sure… sometimes I’m feeling things words aren’t the best too at explaining… but that’s all we’ve got…”
he turns back around looking toward him. “Except for action… action is a language of its own… of course we must be careful and wise, but there is just as much danger in hesitation as there is in haste!”
he sits down, laughing now… he doesn’t know what happens next, but he sees tue extent to which they are most likely ****ed either way, and hopes they find the middle path between the two steep cliffs.
Falken chuckles as Gillian explains further. "Listen, listen.. I don't trust myself less alone the council. I grew up with some of them, and I'm sure they trust each other as much as I trust myself not to piss myself during battle." He pauses for a moment before continuing.
"You are still young, you still have all the time in the world to make a big impact. Not like me... My days are dwindling. I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't be in a rush to die. Let me do that, and only trust yourself, until others earn yours. I certainly don't expect you to trust me, as I certainly don't trust you, Klok, Roy or any of the council."
Wanting to lighten the mood, he slaps a hand on Gillian's back. "As far as my rhymes are concerned, I never quite got a hold of the schemes. My mind was just clouded with dreams. Dreams that were falling apart at the seams. That is, until I met my dear Medle. As soft and pretty as a rose petal." His rhyming stops and he begins to tear up.
"But even the prettiest flowers wither, and when that happens, we must do our best to keep going. So that's what we'll do Gillian. We'll keep on going, but after I sleep. A man of my age needs at least 7 naps a day to function." He says trying to cheer himself up.
The night has grown late by the time you make it back to the council chambers elders Martino and Hedrus have gone home and Elder Guron is there talking with Boradur. You notice the side door where Farthran took Brendan is closed and standing outside is a human female guard that introduces herself as Tessa.
The elders stop speaking as you come in and step over, "Did you discover anything at the young man's farm?" They then notice the body being brought in wrapped in blankets and go quiet.
Otis comes into the room where Falken and Gillian are talking. Nodding to Gillian he first addresses Falken, "Hey, Falken. Roy, Klok, and Grahl are going in to see the council.", his voice is subdued and softer than normal as things have gone quiet in the other chambers.
Otis then turns to Gillian, " Roy asked me to come listen to you. He's concerned about how your feeling and doesn't want you to be alone." Otis leads with, but waits for a reply as he finds a place to sit.

IRoy takes off his helmet on entering.
“Yes. We’ll get to that, but I need to speak to Brendan first, Councilor.”
Gillian heard Otis and sits down to meditate, leaving an obvious space across for otis should he wish to join…
As he begins Gilian telepathically sends Otis a comment:
”then let us comelisten to how thoughts cloud the mind… how emotions cloud the heart… and how exhaustion makes it hard to keep anything straight…”
Gillian sits silently for 20 minutes, before adding telepathically:
“… listening in silence is a great way to hear oneself… all our faults and strengths, they spring up like dragons of fear and doubt, desire and delusion…”
Another 10 minutes go by…
Gillian breaks the silence… “The winner in meditation is the one that learns something about themselves… Good thing we can all win… I now see my part in the confusion… how about you?”
Otis sits down to meditate along with Gillian, his thoughts remain the same through out an hour of meditation.
"Iam the stomach of a starving, dying wolf, what is in me? Nothing, Emptiness, Void!"
"Nothing,... Emptiness, ... Void."
"Emptiness,"
"Void"
"Emptiness."

As Otis meditates for an additional thirty minutes after Gillian question at some point he reaches a point of being unaware of his surroundings, without thought, without feeling, without need. His Ki begins filling the empty void inside of him until he is satiated.
Otis opens his eyes.
"I am not wrong for loving you or being angry with you when you risk yourself. You may not like the way I express that, just as I do not need to like these urges of yours. That is simply the way we have always been and perhaps always will be."
As Roy calls to see Brendan before the council Grahl waits for him. Standing near Tessa the guard a moment in a guarding position.
He continues with a bit of ackward conversation to try and get information out of her. There have been some strange things happening lately. We will need to work together to keep everyone safe.
Has there been any trouble since we last left here? he asks the guard
if Roy leaves the area to another room Grahl will follow him.
Tessa smiles at Grahl, "They called me in right after you left, but no trouble or anything. Brendan wanted to rest a little while ago and Captain Thrang assigned me to this side of the door and he took the other side to guard him. No one has been in or out since."
Guron nods at Roy and calls out, "Tessa, be a dear and ask Brendan if he can come out and talk for a moment please?" Tessa nods and knocks on the door a few times, "Captain Thrang? Is Brendan awake? Guron requests that he come out and speak to them."
After there is no answer, she knocks again, a bit louder this time. "Captain Thrang?" Looking back in bewilderment, she turns back to the door and turns the handle and pushes on the door, but it refuses to budge. Turning back to the elders and whoever else is in the room, she puts her hands up in confusion, not sure what is going on. "They aren't answering..."
