As usual, he has no clue about Underdark dwellers...
He does take the time to whisper a description of the creatures to Kisiki who ((I think)) is the only party member without darkvision, as well as quietly communicating back to the trailing goblins in case they are out of darkvision range of the creatures.
Tanis and Shoowaa have heard legends of horrible abominations called Beholders who are similar to this description. You're not sure that is what these things are. If the stories are true, encountering one could be deadly. Three would be disastrous.
Shoowaa whispers to Phodxia. "...We might be in trouble. I think those might be beholders, which are very very dangerous. I...I will tell them..." Shoowaa slowly moves towards Tanis as he was closer to them. "Um...I think those are beholders. We need to avoid if possible."
Petmailer whispers, "I can send 4 lights there to illuminate them, and a bolt of fire to burn them up. We will stay here until they are destroyed. What do you think?"

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Vrah has heard of beholders though he has never encountered on himself, luckily enough. He looks around a bit worried, "We not sure exactly what type of creature that is, If they ARE beholders we need to move on as quietly as we can as just one creature could destroy us let alone three of them. I vote we move on. If we decide to fight at least we will die in battle." As he grips his battleaxe tighter.
Right now, the closest of you are about 50 feet away from the spores. They are floating and bobbing at the edge of the pool. To take the path past them, you would probably come within 20 feet of them. If they don't react to you, there is room to slip past them.
Petmailer casts dancing lights and moves 4 floating lights down to where the spores are to illuminate the area, and to make sure there are no other creatures or pods in the area. The group stays hidden in the area of darkness and advance no closer.

Anyone who wants can roll a nature check to try and identify the creatures.

Petmailer shoots a message to Sarith describing the creatures, telling him what they are seeing, asking “Are there any other ways around them?”

"If those are what you think, we are doomed. Our only hope is to go back the way we came before they notice us."
Jimjar steps up and says "What's the big deal?"

Shuushar gazes calmly toward the creatures. 2
[ooc: Wow. These are phenomenally bad nature rolls. So far, everyone is convinced these must be beholders. I'm going to have Eldeth check as well]

Yep. Must be beholders.
Nature: 7
edit: happy to add to the low rolls. (I got a 7, if dndbeyond does that weird reroll thing)
Kisiki nods and whispers: "Yes, we should find another way to not put ourselves in danger."
Vrah Nature: 10
(OOC: I swear!!)
"No way, beholders are way scarier than those little shellfishes," Phodoxia insists...
Nature: 19
Vethna also believes they must be beholders... Rolled a modified 7 in the game log.
Phodoxia takes a closer look and realizes these things are actually ...
gas spores
Phodoxia squints. "Those are NOT beholders, they're some kind of plant! I bet they're poisonous or something, they look gross."
Petmailer whispers, "I can send 4 lights there to illuminate them, and a bolt of fire to burn them up. We will stay here until they are destroyed. What do you think?"

With your lights illuminating the area, you don't see any other creatures. The three spores don't seem to react to the lights.
