"I'd be happy to join you, Chonk. Not sure they'll have anything of use for me, but I'll keep you company!" Sindri turns to Guide and asks "When is this big celebration for your naming?"
Guroz accepts the hug, a firm pat to congratulate the Guide on their name day. The attitude of the village affecting the half-orc's mood for the better.
"I could come to the smith, see the price of proper armour, and a shield. Good to have goals, you know."
"I will show you the way." the guide offers with a bright smile. (Lefaris do you follow along or head to the inn?) As you walk the guide talks excitedly, "I have to thank you all. You have given me purpose and with purpose comes a name. The cleric agrees I have found my calling and in doing so have earned a name. It is very exciting and a great honour."
They lead you through the village in the direction of the temple and you soon find yourself standing before the village smithy. The Smith stands outside repairing a hefty looking pick axe and as you all arrive they down tools and turn to greet you. The thick smell of fired coals and metal hangs heavy in the air.
"Ah, the champions! Pleased to meet ya." the Smith offers a grimy hand in greeting. "What can I do ya for?"
“Greetings, Smith.”Chonk says as he shakes hands. “We are looking to repair or replace our armor and weapons and wanted to see what you might be able to do to help us out.”
Chonk will draw his damaged sword from its sheath for Smith to inspect.
The Smith takes a long look at the sword, "I can have this repaired for you by midday tomorrow. Seven emeralds should cover it."
They look you all up and down considering your gear, "Dont have much in the way of armour. Their is a tanner the other end of town if you want better leathers." they think for a moment, "Might have a chain shirt out back if you're interested. I could have it cleaned up and ready for the morning for say, fifty emeralds?"
“Hrmmmm.” Chonk’s face noticeably falls in disappointment. He also does not attempt to haggle. His skill with persuasion is as poor as his skill with deception (poker face).
He draws in a sigh and asks, “Is there someone in town where you can recommend I go to find a bowstring or arrows?”
The Smith brightens at the mention of arrows, "Ha! you know I have a bundle of arrows laid away somewhere here. Dont know why, I've never owned a bow! Took them as part exchange on a pick axe a few years back."
The Guide gives them a meaningful stare and barks a quiet cough and the Smith gives a chuckle in response, "Tell you what, if you are getting that sword repaired I'll throw them in for free, what with all the good you have done since arriving in town."
The Smith thinks for a moment, "Your best bet for a string might be the Tanner. Other than that its a two day march to Downhaven to find yourself a real fletcher."
Chonk’s eyes light up as his poker face reveals that he wants to take the deal enthusiastically. He remains quiet, however, as he waits for Guroz or others to possibly work out more bulk discounts if Guroz wants to repair his sword as well, look at that chain shirt, or ask about shields.
Sindri can't help but smile as Chonk lights up at the Smith's offer. She has no business with the smith, but is looking forward to seeing what the tanner may have when they head to the other side of town.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"It seems my friend is quite interested in that chain shirt you mentioned." Lefaris says with a smile, stepping forward. "We don't quite have that many emeralds available right now, but is there some way we can work out a trade, some task you might need done?)
The Smith considers your suggestion Lefaris, "That all depends. I understand the cleric spoke to you about the mines? If you are indeed heading there next you might be able to do me a service. When the tunnels collapsed the village golem was lost. If you can find it within the mine and reactivate it I would gladly give you the chain shirt as a reward."
Chonk playfully smacks Guroz on the arm with the back of his hand. “Ehhh ehhh, hear that? That could work out nicely for you.”
Chonk unequips his damaged long sword and sheath and passes it to Smith. As he digs in the side pouch where he’s stored his emeralds, he asks Guroz, “Are you interested in having your long sword repaired as well?”
He counts out 7 of the 10 emeralds he was carrying but waits to hand them over until Guroz replies, secretly hoping to save an emerald or two if Guroz gives the Smith more work.
"Well that depends what's wrong with it!" is the Smiths rather unhelpful supply, "Most likely its just trapped in there."
"It might be powered down by now."the Guide offers.
"True, true." the Smith agrees, "If that is the case, there is a small compartment that pops open on the Golems chest. You will need to drop in a new redstone cube."
"There were spares kept in the storeroom in the mine." the Guide informs you. "It is near the entrance and should be easy enough to find."
(Guroz do you want anything more from the Smith before we move on to the Tanner?)
Gurozwill look to get his iron sword repaired also, and inquire about the price of a shield. Understanding the times are hard for everyone, he appreciates the talk to get a lower the price, but won't push for it.
The Smith wanders out back for a moment to look for a shield.
"Sure I had one somewhere!" they call back. They return after a few moments carrying a bulky oblong shield with a strange face painted on the surface.
"Bought this from a travelling merchant." they explain. "Told me it was magic but I've never been able to make it do anything special. 15 emeralds and its yours."
Guroz dishes out all of his emeralds and gives a sigh of sympathy, "I'll keep you updated if something flares up."He says in humour before giving over all his emeralds.
Chonk hands over his 7 emeralds for the repair of his damaged long sword and the bundle of arrows, wondering if they’re in a quiver or not.
”I’d very much appreciate a rush on the repairs of the swords. The sooner you can turn them around, the sooner we can be off to the mine.”
Chonk is ready to head to see the Tanner. He hopes that his remaining 3 emeralds are enough to secure a quiver, if needed, and a bowstring. He is also anxious to keep working on creating his longbow with whatever time is left today.
The arrows are indeed in a quiver Chonk. Nothing fancy just functional and good for your purpose. (Add 20 arrows and the quiver to your inventory).
Guroz the Smith takes your emeralds and the damaged sword before handing over the shield. "It'll be a good companion for your sword, but no good with that two handed axe you carry." they advise before adding, "Sorry, you know your own business of course."
Taking your leave of the Smith you all make your way across town to the Tanners. You can smell the building before you see it, and it is not a pleasant smell. Curing hides and half made armour hangs here and there outside but the building seems to be closed. It is late afternoon and the guide shakes his head apologetically.
"Maybe try in the morning?" they suggest.
Everyone roll perception.
