Ermasnietsz - Your dagger plunges into the exposed back of boggle #1. It cries out in pain before managing to retreat to the south. You are able to tell that it is close to death and may not survive its wounds.
Meresaa's Turn
After encircling the boggle (#4), Meresaa unleashes two attacks in quick succession. The first attack, with her dagger, narrowly misses the boggle's back, striking only air. However, the second attack, with her hammer, thwacksinto the boggle crashing into its shoulder and causing oil to spout all over her hand.
Looking up Meresaa locks eyes with Toska and shrugs awkwardly.
Meresaa - A deep-seated, intense fear grips you; What was that look Toska gave you? Can you really be sure that the brutal orcish woman is on your side? Will she be able to control her rage? You are now frightened of Toska, you can attempt to overcome this condition at the end of each of your subsequent turns (by rolling a DC 11 Constitution Save).
Boggle #4's Turn
Spinning around, the boggle turns to face Meresaa. Briefly panicked by the fact that it was now encircled, it lashes out at her with its wiry little hands.
Attack: 26 Damage: 6
Its attack catches Meresaa off-guard. The boggle's hands rake down her face, dealing 6 bludgeoning damage.
Nikita - The battle looks to be turning in your favour. Meresaa and Toska are currently going toe-to-toe with the boggle within the grove, whilst Ermasnietsz appears to be getting the better of the others. That having been said, you hear more noises coming from the east ((top of the map)), it seems like more boggle reinforcements might be inbound. It is your turn.
With Boggle#1 retreating, Nikita is inclined, a little grudgingly, to agree with Ermasnietsz that the group should take the opening and move to the south ((to the right on the map)) - towards Prospect while we can, before the Boggle reinforcements arrive to block us. She also take a moment to marvel at how the strange person in their group seems less vulnerable to the Boggles than the rest of them.
Speaking of strange people, Nikita is jolted out of her thoughts when she hears the bizarre thing attached to Claude speaking to her in Infernal. A language she had learned with her coterie along with Abyssal as part of their training, though it had only been the Abyssal that had mattered at the time (and not much in the end, even then). In answer to the... imp(?)... asking her if she understands, Nikita manages only a simple "Yes" in Infernal.
She reverses course and moves to the south (right) 30', into the area being vacated by #1, making sure to slant diagonally east (up) a bit so she is on a path to pass just east (above) the pool of strange grease or slime. Seeing Boggle#5 as possibly the most injured enemy still fighting (with #1 fleeing), she sends Thumbtack to fly in its face and fly up 15' into the air further south (Flyby capability, 60' movement), taking the help action on Boggle#5 and then seeing if she can spy any of the Boggle reinforcements coming.
Setting another arrow to her longbow, Nikita attacks Boggle #5 at advantage.
To the rest of the group, she shouts "To the south, towards Prospect. Let's go while we can." (meaning to the right on the map).
Once more Thumbtack swoops in low to distract the boggle, affording Nikita an opening. Her arrow flies true and strikes the boggle (#5) in the throat, instantly killing the creature. Its lifeless body slumps to the ground, face-planting in the snow. Only three boggles currently remain.
Ermasnietsz & Nick - Nikita shouts for you to run southwards ((right)) as she quickly deals with one of the boggles in the road. Boggle #1 is currently fleeing and both boggles #4 & #6 are engaged in combat. Further eastwards ((top of the map)) you can hear what sounds like additional boggles making their way towards your location. It is your turn to act, what do you do?
Nikita - See spoiler + can I also have a perception check from Thumbtack.
"An interesting development, indeed," Maud declares through Claude. She watches as you easily dispatch boggle #5, "it is good to know that at least one of my present company is competent."
((I probably won't be able to post until later tomorrow if I don't post now, so I'm gonna just go ahead and post now and hopefully it doesn't conflict with Nick's move))
After stowing his shortbow, Boyd unsheathes his broad skinning knife and charges at Boggle 6. His stance is unprofessional and his strike is a little timid, but he wisely aims for a vital spot and he seems to know how to handle the weapon... perhaps just not in combat. Attack: 22 Damage: 9
Images circle through your mind from Thumbtack. It shows 4 additional boggles making their way from the east (around 150ft away), they are currently skulking towards your location. It seems like there may be a nest/den local to your location.
Ermasnietsz's Turn
Ermasnietsz breaks away from the boggle (#6) and dashes towards Nikita and Claude. As she turns to run the boggle attempts to strike at her back;
Attack: 21 Damage: 2
Its right-hand curls in a fist and pummels her back, dealing 2 bludgeoning damage. Nonetheless, Ermasnietsz manages to escape its clutches.
Boyd's Turn
((Theoretically, Ermasnietsz has just dashed away from the boggle (#6) and as such, there is no ally within 5ft of the target to sneak attack (or advantage on the attack). However, I will say that the boggle is distracted by Ermasnietsz fleeing and does not notice your attack (because I am ever-benevolent and you have already rolled!)))
Unprofessional with a knife as he may be, Boyd's attack easily finds the boggle's weak spot as it seems to have been distracted by Ermasnietsz's manoeuvre. His knife cuts deeply into the boggle's side and it yelps in pain, cursing once more in its indiscernable language.
Toska's Turn
"Enough of this!"Toska screams. She brings her great axe down on boggle #4;
Attack: 15 Damage: 14
The attack is savage and almost misses the boggle. However, it connects with awe-inspiring force, biting into the boggle's shoulder and heavily wounding it. Oil and blood coat Toska's frame, though she seems unaffected.
Claude & Maud's Turn
Claude yells something in a guttural language before moving forward. Nikita understands this to be a rallying warcry of sorts, shouted in infernal. He proceeds to cast a fire bolt at boggle #6. The imp on his neck appears to wave its fist at the boggle as the spell is cast.
Attack: 8 Damage: 5
Unfortunately, the fire bolt flies a good 10ft wide of its intended target, crashing into the grove's fence.
A loud yell echoes across the grove from the east, this is followed by a chorus of additional shouts and yells. Emerging from the wooded area to the east appear 4 more small blue boggles. Boggle #1 screams out something before momentarily checking behind him as he runs. It appears as though the newcomers are eager to come to the aid of their friends, dashing towards the party's location.
Blue Boggles #7 & 8's Turns
Two of the boggles dash towards the party, scampering over the snow-covered grove on all fours as they go.
Faila - More boggles! An additional group of the small creatures has appeared from the east. They seem mighty upset at their friends having been attacked and hastily make their way towards you. It seems you have seconds before they reach you, it is your turn.
Battlemap:
Initiative:
Blue Boggle (#8) - 24 - Blue Alien Symbol
Blue Boggle (#7) - 20 - Blue Alien Symbol
Faila - 20 - Pink Staff Symbol
Blue Boggle (#10) - 19 - Blue Alien Symbol
Blue Boggle (#1) - 18 - Blue Alien Symbol
Blue Boggle (#6) - 14 - Blue Alien Symbol
Meresaa - 14 - Dark Blue Gun Symbol
Blue Boggle (#9) - 13 - Blue Alien Symbol
Blue Boggle (#4) - 11 - Blue Alien Symbol
Nikita - 10 - Purple Wand Symbol
Blue Boggle (#5) - 8 - Blue Alien Symbol
Ermasnietsz & NickNack - 7 - Orange Infinity Symbol & Black Shooting-Star Symbol
There's too many! Faila reaches into her backpack and fumbles for her tinderbox and a torch. She gets the torch lit, and it flares up in the cold air. She rushes parallel to the approaching boggles, using the torch as she runs into the trees and bushes, lighting them behind her as she goes, trying to put a barrier of fire between the advancing boggles and the road. She tries not to come too close to the nearest of the boggles, probably ending up near Nikita and Claude again.
Faila manages to quickly light her torch, grabbing the attention of the advancing boggles. Setting off in a dash, she runs eastward towards the snow-covered foliage. Spotting a patch of relatively dry wood she drops the lit torch onto the area, hoping for it to catch.
Boggle #10's Turn
Drawn to the burning torch, boggle #10 dashes in Faila's direction.
Boggle #1's Turn
Fearing for its life, boggle #1 dashes to the gate, creates a portal in the middle of its wooden frame, teleports into the centre of the field and continues running eastward.
Boggle #6's Turn
Boggle #6 clutches at the wound inflicted by Boyd and curses. Leaping up it attempts to punch him in the face;
Attack: 20 Damage: -1
The punch connects. However, it is so pitiful that Boyd is, at worse, mildly inconvenienced by the creature's oily hands.
Boyd - Please make a constitution saving throw (DC 11).
Meresaa - You are still frightened of Toska. You have managed to convince yourself that the orc somehow wishes you ill-will and cannot be trusted. That being said, she has just heavily wounded the boggle (#4) standing in front of you. It is your turn to act, what do you do? ((You are able to attempt to resist the effects of the oil at the end of your turn with a DC 11 constitution saving throw)).
Round 4 - Nick's Turn
((Apologies for missing!))
Nick's blast strikes boggle #6 with pin-point accuracy, impacting it directly in the chest. The boggle momentarily looks around, confused as to where the volley came from.
Meresaa's eyes go even more wide as she whispers, "She's absolutely mad..."
Thinking that the boggle is the lesser of the two threats, Meresaa pivots and runs south, through the gate and as far as she can get with the dash action (60ft).
At the end of her sprint, she stops abruptly and looks back, suddenly feeling sheepish and self-conscious all over again. She clears her throat again and pulls her shoulders back imperiously.
Fear grips Meresaa. Spotting Toska's vicious attack had done nothing to relieve her fear. As she moves to dash away from the hulking orc, boggle #4 takes the opportunity to strike;
Attack: 23 Damage: -1
((Another powerful attack!))
The boggle's attack only serves to expedite Meresaa's flight as it pushes against her back, dealing no damage. She rushes through the gate before the oil's effect starts wearing off, snapping out of her fright.
Meresaa - You have overcome the effects of the oil. Any further contact with the boggle's oil for the next 24hrs will have no effect.
Boggle #9's Turn
Boggle #9 dashes towards Faila's position before ending its turn some 60-70ft away from her.
Boggle #4's Turn
Following Meresaa's lead, boggle #4 attempts to flee from Toska, having already sustained a number of wounds.
Toska Opportunity Attack: Attack: 15 Damage: 5
Toska's reactions are too quick and she manages to land a heavy hit on the retreating boggle. Nonetheless, the boggle desperately runs towards its companions, screaming warnings to them as it goes.
The other boggles all stare wide-eyed at Toska.
Nikita - Other than boggle #6, the other boggles seem to be largely together in the centre of the grove, nattering to one another. A number of your companions seem to be acting peculiarly, to say the least. You have just witnessed Meresaa running at full pelt from Toska. The boggles briefly seemed to have focused on Faila's torch but are now rooted to the spot, staring pie-eyed at Toska. It is your turn.
The strangeness of the battle is hard for Nikita to get over. The boggles and party members all running in different directions. The fear and suspicion. At least the boggles themselves seemed to be afraid as well. Of their injuries and of Toska.
She shouts "We need to get out of here as soon as possible. To the south (rightwards on the map). Towards Prospect."
Nikita sends Thumbtack to fly in the face of Boggle #6, taking the help action before using the owl's Flyby feature and full 60' movement to avoid taking an attack of opportunity and continue flying onward southeast (right and up), rising to an altitude of 20'. Ready to take the help next turn on one of the cluster of boggles.
Nikita attacks Boggle #6 at advantage with her longbow and herself moves 30' due south (to the right), skirting just west (down from) of the pool of grease, to get into melee with Boggle #6 opposite Boyd so that the grizzled rogue has a chance at his sneak attack. She stows her longbow at her back with her free action, ready to either pull it out again, or draw her rapier next turn, depending on the circumstance.
Half grimacing, half smiling at her companion, she drawls "Remember, Boyd, I've got your back."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Nick not seeing the newcomers in the distance. Feels like they are almost done with the blue baddies…. He rushes 30ft forward and tries to blast boggle #6 that he sees in front of Boyd once more:
Attack: 23 Damage: 5
“and stay away!” Nick yells feeling the group triumphant but then…. suddenly seeing the new group in the distance… “oh shit oh shit… I didn’t sign up for this!” he hesitates, deciding if he should run back away or push forward
Thumbtack flies at speed through the air, distracting boggle #6. He continues his flight past the boggle and higher into the air. Using the distraction, Nikita unleashes an arrow at the unsuspecting boggle, it lodges deeply into its chest. At this point, observers would notice that the boggle is badly injured and has lost a lot of blood; it flounders on its feet, struggling to maintain its balance.
Nikita proceeds to charge forward, positioning herself directly behind the boggle (#6).
Nick's Turn
Just as boggle #6 is starting to steady itself following Nikita's attack, Nick's eldritch blast slams into its side. The beam of force energy heavily bruises the boggle, blotchy purple marks cover its right side. The boggle looks around nervously, it is clear to tell that it is weighing up its options.
Ermasnietsz - The battle seems to be going well. The remaining boggles seem to be putting up little resistance. It appears that Faila's distraction is, at least in part, working. A clear path to the south, towards Prospect, appears to be opening up. It is your turn.
Battlemap:
Boggles #1 & #4 are heavily injured (<25% health remaining)
Boggle #6 is badly injured (<50% health remaining)
Ermasnietsz will run towards the tree engulfed in flames while commanding Toska to prevent rest of the blue creatures from blocking the path. To Claude-Maud she will send a friendly suggestion:
"Would you stop hurling useless motes of fire? You'll start a wild fire."
Farmstead Fight (or Flight?)! - Round #4 - Meresaa's Turn
Ermasnietsz - Your dagger plunges into the exposed back of boggle #1. It cries out in pain before managing to retreat to the south. You are able to tell that it is close to death and may not survive its wounds.

Farmstead Fight (or Flight?)! - Round #5 - Nikita & Nick's Turns
Nikita's Turn
