Boyd incredulously puts a hand on his cheek, where he's just been ***** slapped by a small oily booger creature. Momentarily stunned by the gremlin's sassy slight, Boyd recomposes himself and, upon Nikita's arrival, he slaps the boggle in its face and then attempts to jam his dagger into its throat, ending it.
Attack: 23 Damage: 8
Boyd takes what Nikita said with a grain of salt; he knows they're all in this together and are planning to abandon him here in a field - a sacrifice to whatever strange magical gods they no doubt jointly worship - but her soothing words make it to some non-fey-addled part of his brain and he reluctantly nods at the sorceress.
If the boggle dies, Boyd will move 30 feet south and will yell at the rest of the group, "Come on, hurry! Let's get out of here!"
Ermasnietsz [Tooltip Not Found] towards Faila's position and the fire. As soon as she approaches she is able to tell that the torch, nestled among a number of relatively dry twigs, has already started to set alight the vegetation; the fire at this point is relatively manageable.
Boyd's Turn
Feeling incensed at the levels of sass exuded by the boggle (#6) standing in front of him. Boyd's slams his dagger into the throat of the creature, causing it to gargle and froth at the mouth. The attack has the desired effect as the creature collapses to his feet, dead. Boggle #6 is no more.
Oil covers Boyd's hands and arms. He runs southwards towards Prospect.
Boyd - Afraid I am going to need a further constitution saving throw (DC 11) for your successful melee attack on the boggle.
Toska's Turn
Toska mutters something about Ermasnietsz and her orders under her breath before staring with contempt at her foe. Once more, she heaves her great axe down on the boggle (#4);
Attack: 6 Damage: 14
In an uncharacteristic fashion, Toska's attack completely misses the boggle, leaving her overstretched and vulnerable to attack. She curses her luck as she tries to pry her great axe from the frozen ground.
Claude, well Maud really's Turn
Once more in a foul language, only comprehended by Nikita. Claude yells, in infernal, "start a wildfire. Fantastic idea!" Before proceeding to hurl a fire bolt at the tree just to the east of Faila and Ermasnietsz's position.
Attack: 20 Damage: 10
A loud creakingand craaaacking sound echoes around the area, followed by the splintering of wood. Claude's fire bolt smashes through the tree, sending wood splinters everywhere. A raging fire starts to build in the remnants of the tree. Extreme and urgent intervention is required to stop the blaze.
The fires to the north of the grove crackle and pop as they start taking hold. The positive is that the boggles seem to now be more concerned by the threat of the fire than the party; screaming, shouting and pointing at the lit tree.
Boggle #8's & #7's Turns
The boggles (#8 & #7) start screaming at each other in panicked voices. Both retreat back eastwards from whence they came.
Faila - Your distraction seemed to have worked. Possibly too well. With Claude's assistance, the fire in front of you is large and becoming increasingly less stable. You feel the heat beating at your face as you watch the boggles rushing back eastwards. It seems like they have lost their will to fight, it is your turn.
Battlemap:
Initiative:
Blue Boggle (#8) - 24 - Blue Alien Symbol
Blue Boggle (#7) - 20 - Blue Alien Symbol
Faila - 20 - Pink Staff Symbol
Blue Boggle (#10) - 19 - Blue Alien Symbol

Meresaa - 14 - Dark Blue Gun Symbol
Blue Boggle (#9) - 13 - Blue Alien Symbol
Blue Boggle (#4) - 11 - Blue Alien Symbol
Nikita - 10 - Purple Wand Symbol
Ermasnietsz & NickNack - 7 - Orange Infinity Symbol & Black Shooting-Star Symbol
Boyd - You feel your mind starting to cloud. Looking up you spot Meresaa standing near the entrance to the grove. Fear grips you as you meet her gaze; was this whole battle part of her plan? Some nefarious scheme to isolate you from the rest of the party? Your mind runs through all the actions she has taken since the boggles attacked. Carefully orchestrated 'misses' against the boggles, assertions that Toska was 'absolutely mad', in fact, had she not even called into question your fighting ability - "Mr. Nack! Mr. Nilsson! If you're quite finished letting the women in your lives fight for you".
The words pound in your head as you come to the only plausible conclusion; Meresaa has laid a meticulous trap for you. One you are currently caught in. You are currently frightened of her, unsure as to what her ultimate purpose is or why she wishes for your demise.
Faila leaps backwards as the fire bolt splinters a tree near her. The heat stings her face. Oh no. She reaches frantically for something, anything, and only manages to snuff out her own dropped torch and a minute amount of its surrounding flames with Druidcraft.
That's not enough! Civilization is controlled fire, and controlling fire gives civilization. But now the flames of hell have come to judge her attempts at being civilized. And there's only one thing a wild animal does when faced with fire.
Faila runs! Back towards the road, towards Nikita, and south towards Prospect.
Acting quickly, Faila is able to use her druidcraft to extinguish the fire from her torch. Unfortunately, the blaze from Claude's fire bolt is quickly growing; not only the splintered tree but also much of the surrounding vegetation is alight.
Choosing to put some distance between herself and the inferno, Faila charges down the road towards Prospect.
Boggle #10's Turn
Caught in two minds, boggle #10's eyes flick between the retreating boggles (#8 & #7) and the injured boggle (#4) currently facing Toska. Making its decision, it chooses to run away from the rampaging orc as quickly as its little feet will carry it.
Boggle #1's Turn
Near-death, boggle #1 clutches desperately at its gaping wounds. It is unlikely to survive without immediate intervention. Nonetheless, it scurries away to the east, attempting to catch up with the others.
Meresaa - The boggles seem to be in full retreat as the fire rages to the north of the grove. You watch as Faila [Tooltip Not Found] away from the blaze, clearly unable to prevent its expansion. It is your turn to decide, will you attempt to stop the fire or use the distraction to continue towards Prospect?
That little, scrubby tree is far enough from the rest that Meresaa doesn't seem overly concerned with it.
She whirls around, cloak fanning out majestically (of course), to see the rest of the group in various stages of confusion and disorder. "This certainly won't do," she mutters.
"They're running away," she shouts to the party. "Clean up the last of them and let's move on with our day, already. This dalliance has cost us enough as it is!"
With that, she squints one eye, bites the other side of her lip, and lobs another flaming bag from one of her concealed pockets.
The mote of fire crackles as it flies through the air. Meresaa's aim is true as it strikes the boggle (#4) directly in the chest. There is a brief moment's pause as the air clears, the already-injured boggle's hands check the area it struck. Toska looks in utter disbelief as the boggle seems to shrug off the fire bolt. A large, gloating smile is smeared across its triumphant little blue face.
"The hells was that?!" Toska barks having been briefly lost for words.
Boggle #9's Turn
Plucking up more courage than its peers, boggle #9 decides it is time to help the injured boggle (#4). With a hop and a skip, it bounds towards Toska. Taking up a position on the opposite side of the orc, it attempts to pull her away from its friend.
Boggle's Grapple Check: 13
Toska's Opposed Grapple Check: 17
The creature fails miserably. Toska's brute strength quickly overpowers it and it goes crashing to the ground. Grasping upwards it reaches out to its dear friend and says something incomprehensible, its voice wrought with emotion and a solitary tear falling from its face.
Boggle #4's Turn
However, boggle #4 stays resolute. Its voice regaining a little of its gusto. It raises its finger in the air with purpose and delivers, perhaps, one of the most compelling speeches ever given by a boggle. Alas, none among the party could understand a word. Instead, all they heard was a series of strange clicking sounds and strangled, garbled sounds.
After what needed to be said has been said, the boggle (#4) briefly winks at boggle #9 as it curls its fist into a ball and attempts to pummel Toska.
Attack: 8 Damage: 0
The boggle's fist flies through the air with purpose. It sails towards Toska's muscular stomach... but then continues sailing much longer than the boggle had imagined. For, seeing the pitifully telegraphed attack coming, Toska expertly side-stepped. Leading the boggle to over-commit itself and end up toppling onto the floor.
It stands and dusts powdered snow from its body. Looks briefly at boggle #9, then proceeds to slump both its head and shoulders, accepting its fate.
Nikita - Only two boggles currently remain. It appears the others have cut their losses and quickly retreated back in the direction they came. ((Passive Insight)) If you had to guess, they likely retreated to a nearby nest, threatened by the now raging fire. Thumbtack telepathically relays you a simple one-word question; "pursue?" The choice is yours, it is your turn.
"It's cold and I had to throw it far! It's only reasonable to expect such things on occasion!" the frustrated vedalkan says as she stamps a foot on the snow-covered ground.
Meresaa - "Pfah!"Toska says dismissively. She mutters, just about loud enough for Meresaa to hear, "these boggles put up more of a fight. An' tha' one just fell on it's ass tryin' to hit me."
Nikita looks on with relief at Boyd as the grizzled rogue gives her a suspicious look in response to her words but manages to end the boggle in front of them and moves in the right direction (south, towards Prospect, right-wards on the map).
But her good feeling is short-lived as she sees Claude/Maud set the northeastern area alight with an uncontrolled blaze. She tries to speak in a way that the Imp will understand, using her rusty Infernal: "No. Enough, Imp! The boggles are retreating. Uncontrolled brush fire leads suspicion to us!"
Not to mention endangering everyone and everything nearby, starting with the farmstead itself. Though I doubt the imp cares about that.
Pleading to everyone in the group in common: "Please head south (right-wards on the map) as Faila, Boyd and Meresaa are doing. Pick off the remaining 2 boggles near Toska at range if need be. I am only temporarily going to the fire to use Shape Water to create a fire break. Then I'll follow south."
(Oh what's the use, none of them will listen to me anyway.)
She sends Thumbtack 60' towards boggles #4 and #9 to help next (but not this) turn. Probably 3 squares SE (counting as 4 squares movement), and the remaining 8 squares E and lower 5' to be at 15' altitude. The owl then takes the dodge action.
As for Nikita, she dashes 60' towards the fire, avoiding the pool of boggle oil and the corner of the fencing: 4 squares/20' north (left on map), 5 squares/40' northeast (left and up on map, assuming the 2nd and 4th square take 10' movement diagonally). Getting in position to cast Shape Water next turn and turns thereafter to use the snow from the ground to create fire-breaks around the growing fire.

Ermasnietsz will move farther east to locate the origin of the horde of boggles/fey creatures. Thus she will search for an opening to den or a portal that might let her determine how to stop continuous flow of otherworldly creatures.. probably by creating a wall around it?
Nicky sees the retreat, emboldened…. Seeing as that was the direction they wanted to go anyway! He rushes forward 60ft with his movement and bonus action (30ft into map just behind the monkey symbol) then tries to shoot at boggle #4 to keep them on Their heels…
Attack: 23 Damage: 8
“...and stay out!” Nick musters as he shoots…
boy, hope we aren’t walking right into a trap… he pants, from rushing back and forth expeditiously…
Thumbtack flies towards Toska and the remaining boggles, from its vantage point it can just about make out the other boggles darting into the wooded area to the east. The remaining boggles do not seem to be putting up much of a fight and Toska appears to have the situation in hand.
Claude/Maud shrugs at Nikita. "If you insist... Would it not be a quicker way of slaughtering the creatures," Claude says in infernal, perplexed.
Nikita then proceeds to dash past Claude and Maud, towards the building fire.
Ermasnietsz's Turn
Ermasnietsz advances eastwards, avoiding the fire as she goes. She casts her eye over the area but unfortunately does not find any signs of a nest or den. The woods seemingly get denser the further east you go.
Nick Nack's Turn
Emboldened, Nick dashes towards the remaining boggles. Firing off an eldritch blast with pin-point accuracy, it hits boggle #4 clean in the centre of its forehead. The force of the blast knocks the boggle off its feet. It twitches momentarily before lying incredibly still. Boggle #4 is dead.
Boyd - Only one boggle remains standing. All the others have either fled on been slain. Currently, the more pressing threat appears to be the steadily growing fire to the north of the grove. However, for now, the road to Prospect is clear. It is your turn.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Boyd gawks at the situation - how could he have been so blind?! He prided himself on keeping himself safe, yet he's clearly allowed himself to be led into a trap by this sorceress from another "die mention." The way she goaded him into attacking those little blue boogers, the way she purposefully missed them but made it look like poor aim, the way when she did hit them they just brushed it off and giggled... clearly she's in cahoots with them!
They're probably from the same "malty verse" as her! A blue world, where everything is as blue (da ba dee) as the feelings in Boyd's heart right now. Shaking his head in disbelief, Boyd books it west (down on the map) and hopes to save himself from these deceitful magicians. Expecting all of his "allies" to turn on him now that the jig is up, Boyd zig zags to avoid their magic (dodge action) and runs as far as he can.
Chastising himself for being so blind, Boyd now saw the situation clearly. He needed to put as much distance between himself and Meresaa as possible. Like a scene from an action movie, Boyd darts from side to side as he rushes back northwards, adding the odd combat roll in case Meresaa should attempt to shoot him with any of her dark magic; she seemed like the type!
After a while Boyd stops, perspiring heavily. The effect of the boggle's oil starts to fade and his head clears. Could he have been wrong? Perhaps Meresaa did not mean to kill him.
Lofting her great axe over her head, Toska brings it down full force on the remaining boggle.
Attack: 14 Damage: 6
The boggle frantically rolls to the left, avoiding Toska's attack. Its eye's wide in fear.
Claude & Maud's Turn
Calmly, Claude moves towards the fire. Waving his hands and speaking in infernal, it begins to lessen and starts dying down. "I-I-I think tha' sh-she's a-able to control flames."Claude stammers in common.
Claude's hand briefly goes to his head and he cries out in pain. "The boy resists," Maud says in infernal. "I should be able to stop the fire from getting out of control... but you are welcome to assist," she says to Nikita.
Faila - The fire seems to die down a little as Claude/Maud casts control flames. Currently only a single boggle remains, the others having fled eastwards. The path towards Prospect remains clear, it is your turn.
Battlemap:
Initiative:
Faila - 20 - Pink Staff Symbol
Meresaa - 14 - Dark Blue Gun Symbol
Blue Boggle (#9) - 13 - Blue Alien Symbol
Nikita - 10 - Purple Wand Symbol
Ermasnietsz & NickNack - 7 - Orange Infinity Symbol & Black Shooting-Star Symbol
Faila keeps running south on the road, trying to put as much distance as she can between herself and the flames. But a thought breaks through her panic. Where did the boggles come from? Are they from Prospect too? Where are they running off to? We can't let them escape into the wilderness and start breeding! She looks east, trying to see if she can spot where the boggles are retreating to.

The way she goaded him into attacking those little blue boogers, the way she purposefully missed them but made it look like poor aim, the way when she did hit them they just brushed it off and giggled... clearly she's in cahoots with them!

Farmstead Fight (or Flight?)! - Round #6 - Boyd's Turn
Boyd's Turn
Chastising himself for being so blind, Boyd now saw the situation clearly. He needed to put as much distance between himself and Meresaa as possible. Like a scene from an action movie, Boyd darts from side to side as he rushes back northwards, adding the odd combat roll in case Meresaa should attempt to shoot him with any of her dark magic; she seemed like the type!
After a while Boyd stops, perspiring heavily. The effect of the boggle's oil starts to fade and his head clears. Could he have been wrong? Perhaps Meresaa did not mean to kill him.
Boyd - You are no longer frightened of Meresaa.
Toska's Turn
Lofting her great axe over her head, Toska brings it down full force on the remaining boggle.
The boggle frantically rolls to the left, avoiding Toska's attack. Its eye's wide in fear.
Claude & Maud's Turn
Calmly, Claude moves towards the fire. Waving his hands and speaking in infernal, it begins to lessen and starts dying down. "I-I-I think tha' sh-she's a-able to control flames." Claude stammers in common.
Claude's hand briefly goes to his head and he cries out in pain. "The boy resists," Maud says in infernal. "I should be able to stop the fire from getting out of control... but you are welcome to assist," she says to Nikita.
