Jek, confused as to what is happening, will whisper to Wo-Dan. "So... are we still doing the plan? I mean, Ro's attacking people left and right, Rum disappeared, and Greko keeps throwing magic out of his rock! I think I'll keep hiding for now. I can throw a little something to Kaede."
With a word, Jek once again sends shadowed clawed hand down into the ground. Instantaneously, it pops up at the storm trooper near Lady Kaede. The shadow claw latches onto the storm trooper and doesn't let go.
Action: chill touch24 to hit, 12 necrotic damage, the target can not regain hit points until the start of Jek's next turn.
Wo-Dan growls deep in his throat as Ro flies off, and then Greko begins to attack as well. Turning to the trooper molesting Kaede he draws his hammer and one-two swings aiming for its chest and head. To Jek he replies,
"If we are very, very lucky the plan can still be held to. Do you have any means of speaking to Ro and trying to get him to back off?"
Lady Kaede yells at the top of her lungs, goading the black clad leader, “Come here you pansy ass insect! Or are you too weak of a coward that you need your little children to fight your battles for you? Actions speak louder than words, and I CAN’T HEAR YOU.”
As quickly as the fight started, it's seemingly over. The surviving elite Stormtroopers disappear one by one, the two remaining ones reappearing at the top of the far side of the chasm around their leader while the others scramble to get back up the ladders. There's a lot of discussion, and at least two fingers are being pointed at Lady Kaede while the rest focus on Ro's approaching form...
Upon seeing the enemy flee, Kaede stabs her katana blade down into the soft dirt, point down, and kneels in front of the blade and prays. She’s victorious, but a true samurai doesn’t gloat over a hard fought battle. For now is the time to learn the lessons that need to be learned, and honor her father and forebears by reciting their names quietly to herself, to honor their presence with her on the field of battle.
Three of the surviving Elite stormtroopers look across the divide at the Ardent Remnants, each gripping a sword and looking determined. They continue to talk, and watch as Ro approaches from across the divide.
Two fingers rise up and point, and then two fireballs are screaming toward Ro the Red's mount...
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As Kaede stabs her blade down into the soft dirt, Greko takes this opportunity to aim an ice storm at the group of bad guys standing around the leader. The elemental is commanded to stay and guard Kaede
The Stormtroopers on the far side of the chasm all find themselves bombarded with ice, some taking direct hits, others leaping to the sides. At least one Stormtrooper gets its chest pierced by a very large shard as it fails to muster any sort of attempt to get away.
"Fall back!" The leader can be heard calling as the Stormtroopers begin to get away from the edge of the chasm. "Fall back and regroup! Call for reinforcements!"
Several of them back far enough away they're no longer visible. The rest are moving that way, while those who are down the ladder scramble to get back up...
Ro grips on the dragonnel's reigns and yanks them to maneuver his mount and avoid the brunt of the first fireball. The illithid doesn't expect the second fireball, but the dragonnel does and leans into the momentum of its turn and barrel rolls to avoid the harsher flames of the second burst. For a second, the flame and smokes of the second fireball envelops the two of them, but they fly out with gusto. Burned but not dreadfully so.
Ro's shadow clone melts into a black puddle as the illithid loses concentration on his spell.
The dragonnel curls its wings and goes into a deep dive, riding its momentum to missile towards the female stormtrooper. Once in range, its wings unfurl, serving as airbrakes to stop the dragonnel and its rider midair. The sudden stop forces Ro to stand up from his saddle, and he bursts into action.
First, the illithid swings his flaming sword at the fleeing stormtroopers. An arc of fire soars through the air and explodes, catching any stormtroopers still standing at the chasm's edge and attempting to burn the parts of rope that are anchoring the ladders.
Second, Ro calls upon magic that dwells innately in his being. Without chant nor motion, a cube of pitch dark appears around the female stormtooper, swallowing her and those around her in its darkness. The dark cube fills with stars and mimics the night sky, but upon closer inspection, the stars reveal themselves to be arcane runes. Much like the ones cut onto the illithid's flesh. The cube of night disappears as quickly as it appeared.
Should the female stormtrooper or any of her lackeys continue to flee, Ro stretches an arm out toward them. Prioritizing the biggest threat, Ro clenches his hand to make a fist as he commands time around them to stop.
Note: Ro loses concentration on Shadow Clone due to damage from the fireball, and is now concentrating on Hypnotic Pattern
Movement: Using as much as needed (a max of 60 ft) to get within 60 ft of the female stormtooper
Bonus Action: Cast Fireball (quickened) as an attempt to burn the top section of the rope ladder and any stormtroopers still by the chasm's edge. DC 17 Dex save 40 fire damage or half on a successful save
Reaction: Innately cast Hypnotic Pattern centered around the female stormtrooper in an attempt to stop her (and any stormtroopers around her) retreat DC 17 Wisdom save
Action: Use Momentary Stasis on _______ - Female stormtrooper if she succeeds her save against Hypnotic Pattern OR... - Any, one stormtrooper that saved against HP (priority on an elite stormtrooper) DC 17 Con save. On a failed save, the creature is incapacitated and has a speed of 0 until the end of Ro's next turn or until the creature takes any damage. Targets one creature only.
Four Stormtroopers meet their doom as Ro destroys the ladder. The initial explosion kills one, and the others succumb to a combination of fall damage and disappearing into the chasm.
As the Hypnotic Pattern centers on the Stormtrooper leader, all the survivors turn their attention to it, and suddenly they're all drooling zombies except one, which steps between Ro and the leader and murmurs a spell and readies to attack...
Jek watches as a song of ice and fire plays out on the other side of the divide. He whistles quietly to himself in his hiding spot. "Dang, those two don't hold back. I hope they don't kill everyone, we still need to find out about the blast bellows." Jek ready an action to send another spectral shadow hand to any enemy that comes within range.
The lone stormtrooper that managed to avoid the effects of Ro's Hypnotic Pattern turns toward the illithid and readies to cast a spell. To Ro, the lone stormtrooper has identified himself as the target of his time stop. The illithid raises his hand towards the stormtrooper and clenches his fist, forcing time around the trooper to stop.
(The stormtrooper failed his save and is under the effects of Momentary Stasis! They are incapacitated and has a speed of 0 until the end of Ro's next turn or until the creature takes any damage.)
Wo-Dan watches the utter annihilation of the troopers by Ro, raising his voice he calls out to the mind flayer "Don't kill them all! We need to gain information from them!"
He begins to make his way to the bridge hoping Ro heard him.
The Stormtroopers all stop their escape and turn toward Ro, their visage a mixture of confusion and silence. The one, the sole would-be defender, is stopped solid in its tracks as it turns toward Ro...
First, the illithid lands to the ground and sends the dragonnel to pick up his warforged master. Second, he procures rope from his bag of holding and ties up the stormtrooper under the affects of his momentary stasis. Third, Ro visits each stormtrooper briefly to strip them of their basic equipment (weapons, shields, spell components, etc.) to limit their means of retaliating. The illithid places their gear in his bag of holding.
Afterward, Ro approaches the leader of the stormtroopers, sword still in hand and still lit ablaze. "Your troops have fallen to ice and flame. Others, more simply, have fallen to their deaths. The only reason death hasn't found the rest of you yet is because my party has questions for you. Answer them without issue, and you might be able to leave here with your lives."
The illithid looks at the band of stormtroopers with hungry eyes.
"I assure you. You'd much rather answer my questions while you're alive."
Greko seemingly done with his charades making Kaede look like a wizard from stories of old gets up and looks to the others still behind. "Oh ho...that was fun eh? Haven't had the blood flowing like that since we dropped a cave on Vader's head eh Jek? Well let's not leave all the fun to uhhh my friend formerly known as Ro."And with that Greko begins to walk across the bridge with his staff aiding him. As he goes he clears off any debris or dead bodies by pushing them off the bridge with his staff. He leaves his earth elemental with Kaede in case she wishes to stay put and commands it to stay with her wherever she goes until it's time to go back to the earth. Upon reaching Ro and leader of the troopers Greko hears Ro mention answering questions with hunger in his eyes "Yes, you probably should answer his questions...I mean it does seem like the prudent thing to do hmmm? Such fancy armors you all don....Something tells me it won't protect you here with him..." Greko says and laughs a bit as he goes to sit down on a nearby rock, rummaging through his pockets and bags for his pipe and a little treat to munch on
Jek looks out. "Oh, we can come out now. Good, I was getting cramped hiding like that. Good job, Lady Kaede, you did your job perfectly! Alright, lets head over!" Jek will drop the illusion as Greko steps out of the rock. He will quickly head over the bridge, moving around Greko as he is pushing people off.
He sees all the people frozen in place. "Umm, will they stay like that long? Maybe, I'll just go and take there magic components and such. Can someone tie them up?"
Jek will search them for magical components or focuses and remove them, using the googles that no one else seemed to want. After, he'll help tie them up.
Jek finds two arcane focuses as he searches; one on the Stormtrooper leader and one on a battle mage that is next to her side. They see as they search that the Stormtroopers are heavily armed and armored and look ready for pinnacle violence.
Time is passing quickly...roughly a minute is already gone...
Out of no-where one of the flying shark-like creatures simply appears as it descends from above them and circles around. Riding on it's back is the familiar feline form of Rum.
"Not quite how we planned it, but a good outcome all the same. Well done, Ro the Red. Greko the White. Fellow Remnants", he says to the others. "Now, we only need the leader, shall we throw the others into the chasm?", he asks casually. "Whatever we are doing we should move fast, these aren't the only danger abroad right now. Our shadowy friend is close".
He manoeuvres his Star Lancer closer to the storm trooper leader, "Porkins here has decided to leave your company. You really should have been nicer to him and his kin. They are truly intelligent creatures".
Lady Kaede stands up, and screams out across the chasm to both her teammates as well as the enemy “STOP! JUST STOP! There is no honor in throwing lives away. Tie the troops up so they cannot flee, but take no further action that borders on murder. We are warriors, of noble cause…not murderers and monsters.”
Addressing the black armor clad leader, “Yield, and you and your troopers will be spared. Or not yield, and you needlessly throw away your life and those of your troopers. The choice is yours.”
