"Sorry, I'm a bit lost with all the information. The Skullsplitters are ally goblins that are not a part of Blix's faction? Blix went home to where? And what specific group is headed to Eternia: the Skullsplitters, Blix or the Dawn Guard?" Ro asks Greko each question, leaving time inbetween for him to answer. It seemed like Rum had similar questions, so Ro opens up the discussion to the entire band. Perhaps other members had some insight on the Auryn's message.
Rum shrugs, “I am as uncertain as you Ro, and in truth whoever these Skullsplitters are we will be leaving them behind when we cross the ocean, so it likely won’t matter for some time”.
He thinks for a moment, “We can either follow the path we decided upon or possibly head into the Swamp of Sadness and consult Morla. We have been warned about the dangers of that if you remember though, so I don’t think it is a wise move”.
”There are likely those at The Great Deku Tree that would know where Blix calls home though. I am sure we could get that information without too much trouble, or exposing our presence if we are careful”.
Greko looks at Ro and Rum unsure of his answers"I am sorry but this is all I know. Kerwyn blurted out this half information. The Dawn Guard are heading across the sea to Eternia. I asked a follow-up to Kerwyn but there is silence on the other end. What Kerwyn spoke made as much sense to me as it is to you. I was hoping one of you has heard of these things mentioned but it appears we are all confused by this half message."
Ro lets out an audible sigh, discontent with the half-information their band had received, "Well, it's no fault of your own Greko. At least we know that the Dawn Guard is safe and are making way to Eternia. We've also learned that the AURYN can be used to communicate with the other bands, so that is useful."
Ro turns to the rest of the group, being sure to include Captain Saewulf in the conversation, "Regardless of where Blix is now or where his immediate destination is, we know that he has to deliver the alicorn to the Lord of Darkness. I believe our best move is to continue east to Hylia and proceed with our initial plans of rallying Hylia's troops around the Great Deku Tree and Hylia's east coast. Afterwards we could possibly laying a trap for Blix's arrival."
Ro considers one of Rum's suggestion, "If the band agrees, it may be worth seeking out Morla before crossing the Wise Sea. Though the journey to her is dangerous, her wisdom may offer insight on how we can persuade Hylia's political powers to lend aid to our cause. What are all of your thoughts on the matter?"
"-/Allied Goblins/-?" Lelith looked concerned and somewhat disturbed as well. Enough that she broke her silence "There is no such thing for those primitive creatures. They only know their own kind as allies like any other base animal out there. They are no more intelligent than birds who know how to use tools and repeat spoken Common words, they have their own primal language as you would expect from apes or monkeys."
"I am amenable to see this Morla, wherever she may lie if the rest are so willing. But I doubt the Hylians would need much convincing in trying to find ways to stop the encroaching darkness as even now, it had stepped into the sacred Great Deku Tree in the Kokiri Forest, their own lands. Knowing her history, the beloved princess of Hyrule should be more than willing to lend us a hand and perhaps through her, we would have /his/ help." Lelith had a bit of a reverential tone of voice when speaking of the princess and whoever else she mentioned.
Rum ponders for a moment what Ro and Lelith had said. "I do think there is merit in going to see Morla, there is a lot we could potentially learn, for us and the other bands. Knowing if Blix has gone home and where that is, or if he has passed on the alicorn, would save us considerable time. My own knowledge of Morla themselves though, is not of a seer, just an ancient giant turtle that has been around long enough to have great knowledge and give invaluable advice. That is what they believed at Dragonclaw".
"I am still concerned by the danger of the Swamp in truth, if we all perish there the mission is finished almost before it starts. Captain, perhaps you have something to add, have you been to the Swamp of Sadness, to Shell Mountain? Are there guides that can lead us safely through the swamp?"
Saewulf, who has only just finished discussing the remains of the dead sailor with Clean, pulls his fingers through his beard while he regards the band and their question. He looks overboard, out toward the Swamp of Sadness on their starboard side.
"Aye...a lil' somethin' to add." He says while he contemplates, his fingers pulling furrows in his beard before he withdraws them and sweeps them through his hair. "The swamp kills, lads. It's fu' o' bad thin's that will come fer ye, an' the groun's hainted or some'in. When...ye go in thar...it plays with yer mind...an' pulls yer hart. When it's pulled enough...it...drags ye down into its belly...and that...is that."
"I don't know how long you were in Riverwood," Clean chimes in, "But when you cross the river there to Old Riverwood, there's a forest, the Soul Wood, and in it is a cemetery for everyone who has died in the Swamp. It's...a big cemetery. It's very full, and it's very haunted, and all of the ghosts have regrets."
"Ain't no guide want go in thar." Saewulf shakes his head. "Ifin yer lookin' fer help gettin' through the Swamp...ye migh' look in Cloveresse...but ain't sich a thin' I ever heard of. Ima sure ye can get paid fer what ye did 'ere wif that thin' we killed, an' mayhap ye can buy some'in to 'elp ye, but that'd be all I'ds hope to fine."
Greko scrunches his brow with worry"As enticing as it sounds to get answers fast, I have learned there are no fast answers to difficult problems. I believe it would be arrogant of us to think we could successfully navigate the swamp of sorrows. Who here does not have a buried secret, regrets, or sadness? No, I think it folly to wade into the swamp....The only thing more dangerous than ignorance is arrogance and here we are not ignorant of the dangers. Alas, if this is what the group decides, I will accompany."
"That's a little harsh, Lelith. Some Goblins might be evil, but a few crumbling stones don't mean the entire mountain is sandstone. They might surprise you if you give them a chance. Besides, if they are as unintelligent as you say, I doubt they could possibly do anything seriously detrimental to you if you wait one more moment before releasing the arrow in your bow." Yam, as usual, is calm and kind. Yet, her words convey a very clear message: don't shoot first.
"As for the swamp, I think we can skip the... uh... pleasure. Not only does it sound dangerous, but also it seems like a waste of our precious time. On persuading the powers of Hylia we can work when we get there. I happened to hear various rumours about them in my long life, so we're not going in entirely clueless. As for the news about Blix's route, by learning where his home is, we could intercept him later, after making sure there's a line of defence, in case we fail."

"I do not believe them to be evil, the capacity of evil requires a certain level of sapience, consciousness, and intelligence which they certainly lack. I would no more release an arrow at them than I would a pack of wolves, only when I am threatened. However, wolves and other creatures can at least be trained in some way. Goblins are less tamable than expected." Lelith seemed to remember a particularly unpleasant memory. "Unless they've made some progress since I last experimented with them. They do have the capacity for intelligence from what I recall. Whether they can make that step like humans have done before, I have yet to see with my own eyes."
Ro listens to Yam intently as she speaks to Lelith about goblins. Finding a pause in the conversation he eventually chimes in, "Alright, if everyone has said what they wanted, then I believe the general consensus is that we will not be seeking out Morla. So to Cloveresse it is. By the way captain, what is Cloveresse like? I've never been there in person."
Another six days travel took the band and the Scorpion down the Fantasia river and past the God's Eye lake into the Cloveresse Bay before they finally arrived at the port city.
Cloveresse is pretty close to how Alwyne describes it in his strange accent. It's a relatively large port city surrounded by orchards and gardens, all of which grow surprisingly well this far east of the Swamp of Sadness, though it can be assumed that the silt and so forth that gets washed down river and into the flood plains. The city itself is bunched against the coast in six districts, each of which supports a specific aspect of the city's industry and the way it supports southern Fantasia as not only a shipping and receiving hub, but also as an agricultural center.
Alwyne has told the band about all the shops in the Cold Market district, most of which specialize in all sorts of magical supplies and armament, as well as exotic foods and clothing. And of course he tells them about the cadre of Ivory Infantry that have made the Storm Port their home, the official royal guards of the biggest port in southern Fantasia. He tells them about the robust fishing industry of Cloveresse and the dozens of ships that import to the Fish Port. He also tells them about the strange stories of decadent families and haunted shanties in the Ghost House district and Old District, though he's sure to point out that the stories are mostly unfounded and are fueled by the age of the ancient port.
The Captain sends ahead with Mr. Clean to summon the harbormaster so that the Bullywugs and their pet Croaken can be discussed. As the band departs, it's easy to see why the Captain described the port as a melting pot; there are people of every race in the streets, being mostly mildly mannered but, as with most folk, making their hustles for another day's pay.
Rum does his best to make the most of the days of travel on the boat. A lot of the time he spends in physical training, using his self developed technique of juggling iron rings to increase his speed and accuracy.
When he is not training he can be found either helping out with the daily tasks aboard a ship, keeping lookout with Tialha in the crows nest or looking in on Herbs and Spice and making sure they are settled in and do not want for anything.
Cloveresse
When they reach the port, he will talk to the Captain.
“Obviously speed is of importance along our journey. I assume you will need to obtain supplies, how long are you expecting to stay at the port?”, he asks, not intending to make the Captain feel he is being rushed, just needing to know how long they have in the city.
The Captain replies that he intends to stay until morning, and to set out with the rising of the sun.
Having rolled in to port at daybreak, the crew can see the sun as it comes up over the sea and begins its daily trek along the sky... And then, roughly an hour later, a second sun comes up, following directly behind the primary star in the sky. They travel together, this second beacon of light a bruised rose color in contrast to the original.
After the battle Greko relaxes on the boat writing in his journal about the Bullywugs. He sketched one from memory while writing about their weapons, tactics, and worship of a giant croaken. Over the next 6 days Greko chronicles in his journal about the journey paying particular attention to the various plants, animals, and birdlife of the river and surrounding woods. He talks to the crew, when they, unfortunately, walk by him, about the various birdlife that he has seen. He was excited to see a Belted Kingfisher and told anyone who walked by about it, showing them his drawing and talking about the bird.
Lelith spent most of her time during the trip training her accuracy. As usual, she kept to herself and didn't speak much but it was a far cry from her first days in Hyboria. She seems to have opened up a lot more and is no longer averse to talking with her companions as she used to often abruptly end their conversations or give rather dry short replies. As usual, however, Lelith schooled her expressions too well to discern any of her inner thoughts or any sort of emotion, as often those she showed were nothing more than platitudes, perfected acting and nothing more. Which she knew better than to do with her companions, who had already seen it action, multiple times.
Once at the port, however, she didn't really know what to do. Perhaps, she could scout the city or- her thoughts were interrupted by the appearance of a second sun. She looked weirded it out by it. "As if a moving sun and moon weren't already strange enough, they have a second one."
Lelith promptly assumed it was a normal event for Hyboria, she could now explore Cloveresse or stay in the ship... She decided to explore.
Greko looks up at what everyone else is looking at thinking maybe it was a red-tailed hawk "Oh another bir.....Ah what's this? Two suns? I have not come to this town in my lifetime....is this normal?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
While still on the Boat During the voyage from Riverwood to Cloveresse, Ro is often seen training with his new shield. With the recent attack, the need to improve his own defenses was apparent. If available, Ro would seek out Yam for guidance, as her previous shield lessons were very detailed and easy to understand. Ro also spent some time with the dwarf, Corlin, so long as it didn't bother the dwarf or hinder his work. Ro would help the sailor with any small tasks that required tinkering. Having interest in getting the Stinger functional, Ro would inquire Corlin about how it was built and all the things necessary to get it working again.
Ro also took joy in seeing Greko so happy with his birdwatching, and listened with enthusiasm whenever the lizardfolk spoke to him about his observations. Ro took this opportunity to introduce his hummingbird familiar, Prim, to Greko as well. During the introduction, Prim flew circles around Greko before perching itself on the druid's shoulder. If it pleased Greko, Ro made the offer that Prim could accompany him during his leisure time.
Ro also occasionally checked in on his horse, Penelope, to make sure that she was doing well during the trip.
On Arrival to Cloveresse Once arrived, Ro stayed with Clean to collect the band's share of gold slaying the bullywugs and their "god" rewarded. If the band was going to resupply in Cloveresse, they were going to need as much funds as possible. Personally, Ro was excited the moment Captain Saewulf mentioned magical supplies, and he planned to immediately check out the Cold District after rewards were collected.
The elf-dwarf was so caught up in his own excitement until he saw all of his allies look up at the sky. Ro turned his attention towards the sky to see the second sun trailing behind the first sun. "What on Hyboria is that!?!" Kazek exclaimed. Before answering, Ro racks his brain trying to recall any information he might have gone over in his personal studies pertaining to a rose colored star.
(If allowed, Ro is making a History Check to recall any information about the second sun: 18)
The crew is perturbed by the arrival of the second sun, including Captain Saewulf and Mr. Clean, though everyone tries to hide their discomfort with its appearance as best they can while they continue working. Clean leaves the ship for roughly an hour and returns with the harbormaster, an Orc lady named Bumph, and the Captain explains to her that they were dispatched from Riverwood to deal with the threat on the river. There is a few minutes of generous, if straight forward, words from the harbormaster, who keeps turning an uneasy eye toward the sky.
She leaves and returns after while with a monetary reward for the band; a heavy sack of gold pieces and some random odds and inns that have been confiscated here and there by her office. Between that and the Bullywugs, the band found a few things of use.
