Tests and Trials Game Thread

Jaq will slowly do what he mimed and go and awaken Kroshav, making certain to keep it quiet, and as soon as he is awake, whisper, "they are not hostile, we need to keep quiet, there are other things in the forest that are dangerous.  We need to quietly wake everyone up and find a way to talk to the bugbears."

"Whaaa, sorry Miss, I won't pee on your brea- Oh, huh? What's going on, Jaq? Bugbears!? Where?", Kroshav says, mumbling with his eyes closed at first, but ending in an intense whisper as he looks around in the darkness.

The bugbear watches Jaq do his miming with obvious confusion but she does get it when he starts moving. She doesn't try to stop him just widens her eyes, says something quietly and covers her mouth then covers Jaq's.

The bugbear near Kroshav watches as Jaq approaches and says something quietly to the one following Jaq. The two have, what Jaq quickly figures, is a whispered argument. The one by Kroshav points at Jaq and gestures violently then points to the woods then points to Kroshav and shakes his hands and points to the woods again. The one by Jaq replies something and the one by Kroshav stands and starts surveying the woods in earnest.

No one stops Jaq from waking Kroshav but Kroshav has a hard time hearing Jaq over Sword.

Kroshav does see Jaq and a pair of hulking figures lit by the fire light.

Bears?! One of the hulking figure is a bear? That's what Jaq said! It's got a bear head, bear heads mean bears.

Jaq sounded worried, that bear is probably dangerous! Kroshav has to protect them from the bears!

Kroshav lumbers out of his bread roll and pulls Jaq behind him, drawing out Sword and lighting her up, before pausing in confusion at not seeing bears.

As Kroshav rolls out of his sandwich bed the two bugbears nearest him step back in shock. Both pull their clubs and stand ready, squinting at the bright light from Sword. They remain completely silent though.

Jaq sees the one by Ealu start looking around in a panic. Waving it's arm in a gesture Jaq doesn't get and the other bugbears don't seem to notice as they focus on Kroshav.

Jaq moves right up to Kroshav’s ear.  “ No! Stop!  They are not enemies.  They are warning us of worse enemy in the woods.  We need to be very quiet!”    And he grabs Kroshav’s sword arm by the lower arm.  

The bugbears watching Kroshav both follow Jaq's actions but neither lower their clubs. The female bugbear does notice the vigorous waving of the third bugbear by Ealu.

Spinning she turns in that direction and shouts something that causes the final bugbear to look at her. He then bolts off, away from Kroshav and Jaq. The bugbear by Ealu bolts another direction and the female bolts still another.

((Okay, everyone roll me initiative! Cladmir, Ernos and Ealu will be taken by surprise this round.

I'll get a map up tomorrow to confirm positions.))

Kroshav looks around in the light thrown off by Sword (bright 20 ft, dim to 40ft), trying to make sense of what's going on.

(I still haven’t figured how to post rolls on here correctly when on my phone.  Shakes head.     I rolled a total of 13)

((If you turn your phone to landscape it sometimes works to be able to get the dice rolls. I mostly just manually type it our though - so a d20 roll would be Unable to parse dice roll.))

Kroshav sees the fleeing bugbears, he can see they are bugbears now, and Ealu and his sleeping/now waking companions. Other than than he just sees forest all around him and darkness beyond. Jaq sees more or less the same.

Also the position looks good!

Jaq would be to the south of Kroshav, and when the bugbears boogied away, he'd have moved further south to get right next to/nearly into the shadow of that big tree if there was time.

((If anything, Kroshav may have been on the same side of the fire as Ealu, but I'm fine with layout as is.))

((I switched places for Kroshav and Ernos. Jaq can move do to the big pine, no problem.))

Jaq watches the bugbears head off to the south and, like any good rogue, knows that is probably the direction to heading now. He stands behind the nearest large tree and watches for whatever is coming from the north.

Ernos and Cladmir both start to sit up as a trio of goblins approach within the range of Jaq's vision, but still outside the light provided by Sword. The trio move slowly but stop on seeing the camp, or more specifically the lit up dragonborn. They look to be carrying shortbows with arrows at the ready but none of the three take aim at the party and look to be trying to confer with each other.

Cladmir shakes his head as he tried to dispel his lingering dream.  There was a time when he was younger that he would have just sprang on his feet and be battle ready in seconds, but he is old and it is cold and the bedroll was so so warm...
