Tests and Trials Game Thread

Kroshav hears a muffled something up the tunnel  he is currently inching along but whatever is being said is easily overshadowed by Joe's much nearer and more insistent shrieking.

Jaq can't see anything through his watering ears, beyond that huge spider in front of a drow being choked ineffectually by Mikram. Huh.

(( For Cladmir's part his plan is to just sit tight and quiet until the dust clears out so he can see what is going on or until someone in the party yells for assistant.  For now if Lurn in drow form is visible he would focus on that as I would assumed that he still has no idea about the spiders.  Also he would put away the hand crossbow and instead ready is rapier. ))

Joe starts coughing violently on the dust she sucked up to loudly warn Kroshav.

((Disadvantage on checks and attack rolls until she passes a DC 10 con save. I'll ask you for another next 'round'. ))

I believe that falls shy of my passive intuition, so just going from "not hostile."

Lurn places his hand to his chest, "More intruders could arrive soon, I will remain to keep them from sneaking away from here, but with chaos like this they are likely to be more dangerous than this harmless pest.  Please, find safety, I cannot abide by the beloved children of our Lady being faced with danger."

The spider nearest edges from side to side in jerky motions before moving up the wall to the ceiling and waving its palps at Lurn again. It moves slightly forward then pauses.

Lurn watches and,  while he isn't entirely sure,  he thinks that it wants to move past him and into the dust. It seems uncertain though and two of the other spiders turns and skitter back towards the library.

Kroshav and Joe are two 'turns' from catching up with the rest if they decide to keep moving  towards them.

Mikram continues not getting what is going on, scrambling oddly as he attempts to get at the drow.

Lurn tries speaking a little more loudly - not so much as to be actually loud - hoping that Jaq can hear him, "If you insist on going ahead, then it is not my place to stop you, but please be wary.  We cannot know where the foes will strike from within such obscurement, and the intruders have shown a tendency for surprise attacks.  To enter the dust is a grave danger."

(No clue whether Cal knows elven, so just hoping Jaq can hear and get the idea that something may be coming.)

Kroshav will consult with Sword about the spiders that Joe reported ahead, again asking if there are any of their friend within 'sight'.

If Jaq can hear Lurn's voice, he freezes in place, not knowing who the cleric is speaking to.   He is speaking...strangely.   So Jaq will conceal himself for whatever weirdness is happening.  

24 Stealth

Lurn issues his renewed warning but the spiders remaining nearby take it as leave to continue on, the nearest one on the ceiling dashes past into dust and the other two run along the walls to be beside Lurn and co. They don't look to be paused so much as on their way after the other spider.

Jaq, who is right behind Lurn, both sees the spiders and hears Lurn's odd chat with the same. He crouches down into an outcropping and, with his dusty attire, largely disappears.

Joe gets her coughing under control beside Kroshav as the dragonborn moves forward slowly, groping the wall for direction as he does. Neither of them can make out Lurn's message, the sound muffled and echoing oddly, but they do make out Lurn's voice ahead of them. They aren't far off now. Sword sends to Kroshav,

<A spider is coming! It is above you! ...oh, now it's past you.> Then as an after thought, clearly disappointed, <Hm. The other ones are up there too. And more spiders!>

Not being attacked by the spider, Kroshav doesn't think it bears mentioning to Joe, she'd just freak out. He holds her tight and keeps following Sword's directions to get to the others, but moving warily.

((Anyone else doing anything this round? Two spiders near Lurn and Mikram and not so far from Cladmir and Jaq, though they look intent on heading into the dust.))

Nope.  Jaq continues to hide and listen and watch to see what happens next.  

Once the spiders are gone, Lurn releases his disguise.  "Sorry, Mikram, I should have warned you I was going to do that.  Illusory disguises are a talent of my people."

Cladmir is also content to remain in hiding until the danger is over or enemies are spotted.  Even if he sees Lurn turn back to his former self Cladmir would still remain quiet until more of the party shows up.

The two remaining spiders dash into the dust and out of sight of those around Lurn.

Mikram sputters a long list of creative vulgarities involving drow, magic, spiders and overgrown hobgoblins.

"Ye couldn't have taken a breath to explain that to me BEFORE?"

In Kroshav's mind hears and excited,

<Two more spiders are coming!> Followed by a disappointed, <...they just ran past.>

Assuming Kroshav keeps moving he stumbles out into the light of Lurn's shield.  He sees only an angry dwarf and the firbolg.

The air here isn't completely clear but it is manageable.

"There were three spiders that ran right past us! I'm normally not that good at sneaking!"
