Orvo shook his head a bit. "I can't go with ya, got things to do here, and perhaps see about Urgon's things later. But the thin sheets is where the ice up north of here gets a lot thinner, makes traveling dangerous. And Ice mephits? Annoying little scamps. Little ice devils, not too vicious but best still avoided if possible."
"Just head north is the best I could say, only me and Urgon seen it yet. And everyone else here is already busy getting ready for another expedition elsewhere to find the Professor." He warmed his hands again. "Rations? Try Betron's tent, crazy fool went off and got himself in a bad way I heard, left nearly everything behind. Otherwise there ain't a lot up here but you could ask around."
Bones, having spent a period of time updating his medical log on the disease, as well as all those known to be afflicted at the time, looks up. "Sir, apologies, can you be a lot more specific? How many days north? What terrain or features might mark where we can find it, or are important markers en route to it? If no one else has been there before, is it hard to spot? Lastly, how do locals normally traverse the thin ice areas? Are there tricks to getting around up there that would preserve us from our final end?"
Orvo sigh and then half laughed at Bones' questions. "How would ya normally walk on thin ice? Nothin' different up there, just goes on for miles and miles. From here to the lab was around 200 miles. I don' know how many days that might be for ya, but it's a long trek there and back. It was half buried in the snow, and if it weren't for the mephits we might 'a missed it, but once we saw it I think it wouldn't be too hard to find again. But it's all blindin' snow and ice, not much else up that way, just stay on a northward direction and you should be alright. It is a pretty large lab as I recall from the look of it. Other than that, keep movin' and stay warm!"
(DM note: It is a 200-mile trip, and you are limited by character movement speed, including anyone slowed down by the disease. It is part survival part dungeon from here on out.)
“How many days did the journey take ya, Master Orvo?” Cade asks. After that he bids farewell to the dwarf, returns to Betron’s tent and takes inventory of the available rations and gear. He is especially looking for food, fuel and something like a sled to pull gear.
(I am assuming Betron’s tent is where we had already been at?)
”Let us get some sleep and then leave in the mornin’, what do ye say?”
"Took us at least seven days to get up there, and then seven back or so. But we were going fast too, at least as fast as we could." He nods and goes back to tending his fire.
In Bertron's tent (yes that's where you were shown) there is a crate with 50 days of rations, a 50-foot silk rope, a blanket, a grappling hook, a miner’s pick, and a book titled Adventure Sexy: Impress Potential Lovers with Great Deeds by Scanlan Shorthalt.
Doc will assist with looting the tent for as many supplies as they can reasonably carry, including breaking down the tent itself and packing everything onto tent pole skids or, if there is one, a sled. "The tent itself may be what saves us through the freezing nights."
(Tent might be a little misleading, they are more accurately yurts, and while technically portable, not too practical for setting up and taking down everyday. I would assume though that when you went to get cold weather supplies earlier that you procured a proper tent or shelter of some kind to sleep in each night, as well was some sort of sled, or else an extra sled is probably easy to come by at the outpost here.)
Cade secures 10 rations as well. He helps the others to distribute weight between the various backpacks and loads the rest of the heavier gear on the sled. After that, he is ready to take off.

(( That works then! I have seen Yurt construction in real life and would not want to be a Gnome lugging around that much material. ))
" Yes, lets go."

" Ok, can you point us to a guide? And where the rations are kept? There are childrens lives in the balance and we don't have time to waste."

Gellwin headed off towards Betrons tent, confident he could conjure enough fire to keep them alive.....at least until he succumbed.
Standing around here yapping wasn't helping anyone.

Gellwin takes 10 rations, the rope, grapple and the book.
" Grab what you need and lets head north....I'm sure as an old navy man Doc can navigate the way."
Petros pockets 10 rations, the miner’s pick, and the blanket. He raises an eyebrow at Gellwin upon seeing them take the book.
(Before you all go, Gellwin make a CON save please.)

Con Save:15

(Con save is good Gellwin!)
(And yes, yurts can be quite a thing!)
(How fast do you all want to try and travel? Slow, Normal or Fast?)
( Gellwin wants to go fast....but accepts normal is probable safer. )
