"We should go speak with Aya Glemiir, maybe stop by Marten to ask him about the description of the book as well. If you wanna go speak to your friend, how about you meet up with us at Aya's place?"
At the Laughing Goblin, Imizael chuckles, "By the time you could get a letter sent out on a caravan she'll probably be back. Don't worry, she's never gone much longer'n a tenday. And I can leave a message for her if you'd like."
OOC: Ready to advance once the next action has been determined.
Briny is startled by the gesture and grips the strap of her pack a bit tighter at first, then rolls her eyes as she smooths her hair down again. "Alright, I'd better get going then." She gives a wave to the group as she sets off, humming to herself as she makes her way to where she knows she should be able to find Chaab.
OOC: I'll advance the party to Aya's place to start. Let me know what Briny would like to discuss with Chaab in the next round of posts or in a PM if there is information she doesn't want the other characters to know, and she will eventually rejoin the party.
On the nicer side of Podol Plaza, the door to Aya's rather unassuming building opens, and a female elf wearing robes stands in the doorway. The smell of flowers and incense flow from within.
Perched on the elf's shoulder is a small, grey-furred monkey. "I take it you are here to interrogate me about the missing book?" She smiles, "Master Openrael is certainly distrustful."
The interior of the shop is dimly lit by candles; most of the sun's light has been blocked from entering the windows by heavy curtains. Once inside, the scent of paper and ink is no longer masked by the other fragrances. Chittering and whispered incantations mix with the scratching of quill on paper from a half-dozen younger men and women read and write studiously at desks around the building.
The elf woman at the door looks to be around 300 years old, and is a picture of traditional beauty, with long black hair and radiant green eyes. She cocks her head curiously at Uragum mid-sentence, and smiles coyly at the goliath as she awaits an answer.
Hex glanced at Uragum with intrigue before clearing her throat. "Ahem, uh yeah. We're here to ask you about the theft. Would it be alright if we came in to examine where it was taken from?"
"Of course, please follow me. The book is very valuable, so it had been stored in my private room in the back," Aya answers. She leads you to a small back room and directs you to a glass display case of breathtaking quality. "The book was stored here, in this case. As far as I have been able to tell, it was the only thing stolen."
"Could you tell us more about the book? What exactly it was about, what it looked like, it's history etc etc." Hex takes a look around the room as she listens to Aya's answer.
As soon as Sylyra spots the monkey, his lips spread into a grin. He watches the creature as the elf and Briny talk, but after they enter the small back room, he can't help himself. He quietly asks the monkey in Sylvan, "Hello, little one. I am called Sylyra. What are you called?"
OOC: Sorry for the delay, we've got a COVID household this week.
"Of course," Aya flashes a smile. "The book belonged to the library. It was in my possession for two years before it was taken six...no, seven days ago, now. It's a rare treatise detailing the Weave; its history, and hypotheses about its nature. It was about a foot and a half wide, and just as long. It was bound in fine, white leather with golden lettering along the spine, and a ribbon of white silk as a placeholder. Oh, and its front cover was emblazoned with the symbol of Mystra, our goddess of the magic."
The monkey scampers down from Aya's shoulder and onto a post within the room. It cocks its head at Sylyra and chitters, but offers no further commentary.
He tried to keep his focus as they moved through the shop. The smell of paper and the sound of scribbling was a welcomed addition to his senses. "Mystra you say, and the weave?" Uragum says with a slight look of surprise upon his face. "To me that certainly sounds like the one that would be most expensive books we've heard taken yet. But I suppose the value is high for any of those to the right person. Anyways, is it just kept locked here in its case or are there any special precautions like spells that have been cast."
Aya twiddles with a curl of her hair, grinning again at Uragum. "I knew I sensed a remarkable intelligence within you. I've met your kind before, but none that examined a room with such...intelligent finesse."
"Yes, the book was quite valuable. Because of that, only a handful of people knew that I even had it stored here in my room. That means whoever took the book more than likely had access to the Library's records."
"I am curious," she muses, "Whether you can determine whether there were any special precautions taken."
OOC: Forgot to remind you that Sylyra's speech of the woods feature means he would have understood the monkey's noises and motions (and the monkey would have understood Sylyra).
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Uragum gives a nod and requests that the others give him a little space. He pulls out his wand of detect magic and casts the spell quickly. He focuses first upon the case where it was held and after sufficent time looking at that, expands his search around the room to gather what he can from that. Lastly, he will inspect with his non magical sense for cluse.
The monkey conveys a name to you that you decipher as "Hill Lock", along with a sense of curiosity stemming from the interruption of an otherwise boring day.
For Uragum:
You notice cunningly etched runes around the edges of each pane of glass of the display case. You also notice that one of the runes has been very subtly marred.
You detect various auras of magic with the wand, but only emanating from other members of your party.
As Uragum examines the area, the door to the shop opens. An associate speaks briefly with Briny, directing her to join the party with Aya in her private room.
Briny walks in and nods at Hex, then looks around the room and waits while she figures out what is going on. One eyebrow raises and the corner of her mouth twitches up as she sees Sylyra actually smiling at the monkey but she says nothing.
"We should go speak with Aya Glemiir, maybe stop by Marten to ask him about the description of the book as well. If you wanna go speak to your friend, how about you meet up with us at Aya's place?"
At the Laughing Goblin, Sylyra asks, "Does she leave a forwarding address when she's away from Phlan?"
Outside of the Cracked Crown, he stares up at a second-floor window as he waits.
At the Laughing Goblin, Imizael chuckles, "By the time you could get a letter sent out on a caravan she'll probably be back. Don't worry, she's never gone much longer'n a tenday. And I can leave a message for her if you'd like."

((Sorry for the delay, I'm getting all caught up now))
"That sounds good, I can meet you there. Does anyone want any paper to take notes, or..." She trails off awkwardly.
Hex laughs at Briny's offer and ruffles her hair. "Haha, nah I think we're alright. See you later, Briny."
Sylyra turns to watch Briny skip away. He only partially rolls his eyes. "Are we ready to go?" he asks.
OOC: I'll advance the party to Aya's place to start. Let me know what Briny would like to discuss with Chaab in the next round of posts or in a PM if there is information she doesn't want the other characters to know, and she will eventually rejoin the party.

Investigation 20
OOC: Ah, thanks for pointing that out.
Applying Uragum's Perception bonus to that roll.
