When Maggwyn tells Jasper to check the woods he says "yes App.."before stopping himself. "I think I'll check the woods" he says quietly to Miesha and Crannoc.
When Maggwyn mentions the rope and threatens to skin a cat Jasper suddenly freezes, his hair standing on end. He swiftly pulls his silk rope out of a compartment near the bottom of his pack and drops it on the ground without a word.
The tabaxi walks around the large elk for cover and casts Invisibility before trying to silently sneak into the woods and look around for any figures, shadows, etc. watching them.
Jasper - Make a Perception check and a Stealth check (the latter with advantage).
Maggwyn - Descending into this pit is a challenge with your wingspan, but you manage. You lower yourself fifty feet or so, to where the torch light went out. You see no change in the space around you. Above, the group attaches the next rope and your descent continues. Another thirty feet down you see the ground. You feet touch down and you see three tunnels from your current location. Make a Perception check.
Crannoc also has 50' of hempen rope and two 50' coils of silk rope. He gets busy tying them all together along with Jasper's silk rope, not knowing how far down it is. He maintains concentration on Guidance for Maggwyn (duration one minute, so I'm hoping it applies to this Perception check).
He summons his Mage Hand to be at the ready in case anything snags with the ropes (no concentration). As he, Miesha and presumably Kass begin to descend, he sends a whispered Message to Maggwyn (that she can reply to in a whisper).
"We are coming down. What do you see?"
When he has time, he also sends a Message to Jasper, letting the cat-man know the status. (Again, can reply in a whisper).
Maggwyn - You see that the tunnels around you are roughly dug through dirt and rock, and though you can’t see particularly far into the three tunnels, you see that each has multiple smaller offshoots. In the grey-scale of your dark vision it is hard to make out any coloration of the earth around you. Looking up you see complete darkness, but can still hear your party.
Maggwyn responds to Crannoc, "Yeah, come on down. It's less than 100 feet to the bottom. There are three main tunnels from here, looks like that branch off within each. Can that spell you were talking about earlier tell us which way to go?"
Crannoc will begin to descend, certainly deferring to Miesha if she wishes to go first (or same with Kass). This is unless Jasper replied to his Message with any kind of urgent need. He sends another message to the cat-man suggesting to come down after them if the coast is clear.
If the descent goes smoothly, at the bottom (or another Message if he hasn't reached the bottom yet), Crannoc whispers to Maggwyn what he knows about Augury, which he has never successfully cast before, admittedly.
"It takes ten minutes to cast as a ritual unless I want to expend my most strongest magic from Temuth for the day. It is not powerful enough for a deity to speak directly, but I can propose a course of action such as coming down here in the first place, or going down one or any of the paths, and I believe Temuth will send an omen suggesting whether good or bad (or both or neither) are likely to result from that course of action."
Miesha instructs Eilc to stay in the general vicinity unless he need flee for his safety, gives the elk a couple friendly scritches, then starts climbing carefully down the rope. "I've got a good feeling about this," she says with feigned sincerity. "Haphazardly climbing down evil holes in the ground, what could go wrong?"
Jasper - You circle around the area, completely invisible. You find no creature pursuing your party. You return to the pit and see two more of your party members descending, Kass standing above. She appears to be standing guard over the rope tied to a tree. She is unaware of your presence.
Maggwyn, Crannoc, and Miesha - You have all descended and are fairly tightly packed in this small space, still undecided on what direction to go next.
“If all ways are unknown then go forward. At least you’ll be heading in the right direction,,” Miesha says with a calmness and tenor that suggests it’s an old saying.
Maggwyn is quiet as they look at the options in front of them. As Crannoc says they have no wish to spend the time on the ritual, she shrugs her shoulders and tries to figure out which tunnel they should deem the one to go forward in as Miesha mentioned.
Then she jumps out of her skin as Jasper scares her, "Cat!! You're going to pay for that one." She spins and narrows her eyes in the direction the sound came from. "Show yourself, coward."
“Thanks,” Miesha says to Crannoc with a smile. She had intended to light a torch if someone had one but the quarters were proving too cramped anyway. Besides, her hands were full…
Miesha too shakes her head about the back and forth between Maggwyn and Jasper. She’s used to a bit more military discipline, after all. Still, it was kind of amusing.
“Sure,” Miesha says when Jasper suggests they go left. She had no real preference and her ‘go forward’ bit is more of a saying than anything - and one is always going forward if they follow their nose.
“Wait. Who’s left?” She suddenly asks, uselessly as it turns out since she wouldn’t know which way was the invisible cats left anyway. Miesha sighs and does her best to follow the sound of his passing…
As you all prepare to go, you hear Kass call out from above. “Someone should stay here to defend the rope. I’ll see you when you return.”
You trail the invisible Jasper down the path heading West, though your sense of direction has already been interfered with. The order as I know it (which you can modify if you’d like): Jasper (invisible), Miesha (with a light on her shield), Crannoc, and Maggwyn.
As you walk down this path, you all feel a little queasy, the air heavy and musty around you.
Crannoc - You feel more than just queasy, you feel entirely ill. You can act normally, but your speed is halved. As you peer ahead, you see that the path twists and turns. The light from Miesha’s shield illuminates the sides of these walls. Slightly grey dirt and dead roots as far as you can see. Observing that, you only barely have enough time to notify Jasper of the pit that you notice in front of your group.
Crannoc and Maggwyn can stop in time, but Jasper and Miesha could fall in.
Jasper and Miesha - Make a Dexterity saving throw with advantage because of Crannoc’s warning.

Crannoc nods grimly, feeling the wrongness of this place. He speaks in a hoarse whisper.
"I agree. Now that we have descended, I have no wish to spend ten minutes casting a ritual such as Augury. Let us go once Kass is down."
He seeks Temuth's Guidance and peers and listens down the path that Miesha suggested, sensing for enemies, hazards or anything hidden.

"Pssst Kass, it's Jasper. You can't see me, but I'm going to climb down. See you down there."
With that an invisible Jasper uses his excellent climbing skills to descend the rope. He then tries to sneak up on Maggwyn for fun.

While Maggwyn and the invisible Jasper interact (in a way Crannoc has yet to understand), he recognizes that Miesha cannot see in the dark.
With the bronze warrior's permission, Crannoc casts Light on Miesha's shield, in the pattern of dappled sunlight on a wooded meadow.

"No way, this is a great spell!" replies Jasper about dropping his invisibility.
"Left then?" Jasper says before suddenly proceeding invisibly down the left hand tunnel while looking for traps and other trouble.
