Just then the door to the north bursts open, and two three-foot-tall animated suits of armor enter. The pair of automatons are fashioned to look like small, stout infantry soldiers, complete with a mustachioed, cartoonish face painted on the front of each ball-like head.
Will whacks one and nearly cleaves it in two. It is barely standing.
Initiative: Tin soldiers: 20 Boggles: 24 Matilda: 16 Will: 13 Kids: Not engaging
The boggles scream in panic and dive through holes in the looms and vanish. One reappears on the balcony behind the tin soldiers, but not before depositing a gloppy sticky oily puddle in the doorway of the balcony in front of it (between itself and the tin soldiers.)
Matilda may act. While the boggles are out of melee range, the two tin soldiers approach menacingly. They are unarmed, and act robotically, but look well-armored.

Meanwhile, Chucklehead angrily storms south, muttering loudly to himself. The path to the kitchen door seems clear.
Ben tries to make a run for the kitchen door with Horatio and Titaani, as Chucklehead storms off to the south.
Meanwhile, Will nods as Matilda urges him to get the kids out the window, and with the boggles now in hiding, the kids seem to get the message, too.
But Matilda tries to figure out how to stall the tin soldiers. There is a pool of sticky-looking oil behind the soldiers in the doorway to the balcony where at least one boggle is hiding. Behind Matilda is another pool of very slippery oil, which Will and the kids will have to jump over to get to the window.

Matilda will head dead east climbing up and over looms as need to try and get the tin soldiers to turn around and traipse through the oil to follow her.

The makeshift key takes a bit of fiddling, but the door finally opens for Ben, Horatio, and Titaani.
A squalid kitchen is carved out of the trunk of the fallen oak. A large clay oven sits in the middle of the room, surrounded by crowded shelves laden with forest fungi, jars of pickled grubs, animal skulls, and moldy cookbooks. Sickly-sweet vapors emerge from a cauldron that rests atop the oven.
A young human girl shackled to a worktable is hard at work peeling potatoes. Set into the floor nearby is a padlocked iron grate through which you hear a gruff male voice say, “Are those potatoes I smell?”
The tiny green dragon you saw earlier is coiled up near the oven, apparently dozing. Fumes rise from the wyrmling’s nostrils.

Meanwhile, Matilda finds the two automations quite easy to fool. They charge right into the oil Tin Soldiers: DC 11 Dexterity saving throws or fall prone:7, 15
Will, finding the path to the window blocked by oil, soldiers, and Matilda, gathers the three children but pauses, torn between waiting for Matilda or running out the open door to the west past the boggles and climbing over the balcony railing, instead. But the children seem more paralyzed by boggles than tin soldiers.

The two soldiers slip and crash into the spools of yarn, much to the delight of the hiding boggles. A small, leather-bound book is uncovered on the floor, under a spool of purple yarn knocked away by the clumsy soldier.
Nevertheless they stand up again and swing their little metal-gloved hands at Matilda. Slam Attack #1: 7. Hit: 7) bludgeoning damage. Slam Attack #2: 9. Hit: 6) bludgeoning damage.

Ben:
Tucking into the room behind the others and closing the door behind him softly, Ben says in a gentle voice, “Be not alarmed, young one. We are here to help.”
He takes a look at the shackles and padlock, wondering if the key they have might fit.

Titaani is going to make her way to where she can hear Matilda fighting the boggles.

Matilda sees two doors leading out - north and south. The door north is ajar. The door south leads to the area Matilda is likely above. A locked grate leads down.
Ben's gentle pronouncement doesn't seem to to stir the small dragon, the size of a large dog, sleeping in front of the oven. This oven is large – it has a 5-foot-wide iron door in its front, while a fuming cauldron rests atop it. (Titaani and Horatio: make a stealth check, too!)
