"The hag is dead," observes Morgort with satisfaction. "That means something. But it may be too late for this cursed land. The Soggy Court will be furious. I'm still wanted for sabotage and now prison break. We'll all likely be executed if they catch us. What say we seize one of their balloons and escape this befouled place. I'm a trained pilot, after all!"
Pud stares at everyone, mouth agape, once he realizes what this helmet does. He can hear all the questions and concerns running through their minds. He lets out a heathy laugh "hahaha...I'm fine! This thing is so neat. It let's me read your minds. Don't worry, I won't go pokin' around where I don't belong.
And I'm with Matilda, I like the idea of a balloon trip but I still want to search the entire place first."
Just then, Pud has an idea. He walks over to the floating light and talks to it.
"Hey there, do you need help little light?"then Pud activates the helmet and attempts to listen to the thoughts of this mysterious creature.

Pud senses a very alien mind in the strange light above them. But he can't make sense of any thoughts. He realizes it may take a little time to figure out how to properly use this helmet. (The helmet requires attunement, and therefore a dedicated Short Rest.)
”I still feel the piece of me that is missing is here somewhere. Let’s check the second floor unopened doors and see if we can find it before the balloon ride. I’d also like to get the stag’s head to the creature who had it taken from him by the hag, but that is another matter,” says Ben.
He goes back to the second floor and looks for a door to open—all else being equal, he heads toward a systemic approach, starting at the far eastern door.

Pulling off the drape over the first pedestal, Ben finds a cage. Within the cage is the body of a hawk, but sloppily grafted onto its neck is the head of a crow. It does not look healthy, and it smells awful. You can see rot where its head meets its neck. It squawks and flutters about anxiously as it stares at Ben through dried-up eyes.
Instantly full of sympathy for the poor creature, Ben reaches out to touch it, letting healing power flow out of himself (Lay on Hands to remove disease).

"By the archfey, what did that monster do to that poor bird?" Titaani gags, her face growing pale at the sight of the creature. "Can you fix it, Ben? If you can't, we might have to put it out of it's misery...how could anyone do such a thing to an innocent animal..."
Her gnomish ears drooping, Titaani hugs Tiny close to her, as if she is afraid something could happen to him too.
Pud frowns in disgust at the sight of this bird. Worried that there's more cruel experiments gone bad like this in the room, he walks over to pedestal left of the doorway and uncovers the drapes.

Ben's attempt to heal the bird fails. He realizes why – it is already dead. Undead. The horrid avian monstrosity makes a rasping squawk and tries to flutter away from Ben's healing hand.
Pud uncovers a second cage. It contains a creature composed of a mangy blue jay's body with an owl's head grafted atop it. It hoots at him with hostility.

Where to next?
" Which doors haven't we tried yet?", Matilda queried, fairly certain there was nothing in her head that Pud would be interested in.
You feel like there is little left to explore on this top (third) level, but there are some unopened doors on the level below.
Ben:
