Ben:

Saddened by the state of the creatures and his waste of healing resources, Ben puts a hand on Titaani’s shoulder and says, “Feel free to step outside if you need to.  We should uncover them all, then I can sense if they are undead and put them to rest.  If even one is still alive, we should rescue it if we can.”

(Divine Sense once there is no cover, Sacred Flame for the destroying of those that detect as undead)

Matilda nodded to Ben and guided Titaani outside the room.

Pud will proceed to help Ben uncover the rest of the pedestals. Considering how creepy and potentially dangerous these things might be, Pud will do his best to keep some distance from the cages as he lifts the coverings.

Matilda leads Titaani back out into Bavlorna's study, as Pud and Ben uncover all seven pedestals. All seven cages contain a bird with the head of one avian species and the body of another. All seven birds are undead. Ben solemnly incinerates each with radiant flames, one-by-one, through the bars of their cages. Little is left but ashes and feathers. 

Ben:

With the gruesome task done, Ben checks out the rest of the room and looks through the windows for anything else of interest, then he comes back out where the others are standing.

Perception:  13

"It is done--all were undead abominations and had to be destroyed.  I am sorry," says Ben, now looking to the southern door in the current room for the next place to check.

Pud leaves the room head down in a somber mood. Birds have always been Pud's favorite animals, hence his little clockwork companion. He wakes up Rizzo and has he do a few barrel rolls and loops around himself and all of his friends in hopes of cheering up the group.

Pud follows Ben into the next room and immediately uses what's left of his detect magic to locate any magical items in the vicinity.

Ben and Pud lead the party next through a new door, to the south. It's a gore-spattered kitchen. A butcher’s block – a slab of blood-encrusted wood covered in scraps of black meat – occupies the middle of the room. Dirty cutlery and mismatched plates and pots balance in precarious piles in and around a wooden wash basin. Nothing here registers as magical to Pud.

A stout figure with a stained apron, iron boots, and crimson cap stands in the middle of the kitchen, glaring at you. She holds a bloody meat cleaver.

"WHO ARE YOU??" she bellows aggressively. "NO GUESTS IN THE KITCHEN!!"

Seemingly recovered a bit from seeing the undead creatures, Titaani takes her sister's hand and addresses the cook. "We're just passing through. We mean you know harm."

Though Titaani's tone is confident, Matilda can feel her hand shaking, as the little gnome is still a bit rattled by the birds. Persuasion: 22 

Matilda just grinned at the cook.

Ben: 

Standing nearby protectively, Ben gives the red-capped cook a hard look—one that says she should choose her words carefully in response to Titaani’s kind overture if she wishes to emerge unscathed from this encounter.

Intomidate to support Titaani:  25

The cook throws her hands in the air in exasperated defeat. Blood drips onto her hat from her upraised cleaver.

"JUST PASSING THROUGH?? JUST PASSING THROUGH?? IT'S MY BLOODY KITCHEN, YOU POMPOUS BUFFOONS! THE INGRATITUDE!!" She waves the dripping cleaver over her head as she explodes in a mouth-foaming rage. "IDIOTS! MORONS! YAM-HEADED DIMWIT FOOLS! HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO COOK? WHAT DO YOU THINK..."

Just then, two large black birds fly in through the open window to the south. One grabs a chunk of meat from the butcher's block; the other tries to steal it away. The squawking birds fight over the meat, circling the room in a chaotic dogfight.

"THEY'RE BACK! GET THEM OUT! GET THEM OUT!!" screams the redcap, swinging her blade repeatedly at one of the crazed birds.

Ben:

”Given what I just saw in the last room, I am with the birds on this one!” exclaims Ben in response, drawing his Longsword and approaching the red-cap.  He slashes twice with his blade!

Longsword:  Attack: 22 Damage: 7

Longsword:  Attack: 22 Damage: 6

The redcap slashes one of the vultures in half, killing it instantly. 

Then Ben steps forward and slashes her twice with his blade. She shrieks in over-the-top fury. "INTRUDERS! ATTACKERS! WAR!!" she screams

Roll Initiative!

Redcap: 10

Initiative: 20

Having traveled with this crew for some time now, Pud has a good feel for what’s to come. And his instincts were right as he sees Ben dive into action. 

Pud follows suit and launches two bolts of flame at the nasty Redcap.

Action: Cast fire bolt to hit 21 for 9 fire damage. 

"Any enemy of the natural world is my enemy too!" Titaani snaps, instantly forgetting her previous civility. "Let's get her, guys!"

The furious redcap is struck and burned by Pud's flames, but she seems to be made of some pretty tough stuff. "FIRE!" she screams. "MURDER!" She continues to wave her bloody cleaver in circles over her head. The vulture continues to circle and look for an opening to grab the meat.

Titaani may act.

Matilda and Horatio may roll initiative (and if they meet or beat a 10, they may act immediately.)

Matilda Initiative- 20

Matilda has flashbacks to other Redcaps they have faced and their vicious ways and assumes that more than a few children have ended up in the pot here......so has no problem stabbing the cook repeatedly.
