Horatio manages to rush part away around the circle and launch two javelins at the gaseous villain. One passes through him, doing minor damage; the other misses. One javelin clatters onto the far ledge near the levers; the other bounces off a support and sinks into the pool.
Titaani fires dual bolts of potent purple power. Both hit. Zargash screams silently; he doesn't look well at all.
Zargash escapes Ben's beam for the moment (DC14 CON save: 16or he takes5 radiant damage; half as much on a success.) He drifts upward another 20 feet and inward another 10'. You spot an 8-foot-wide, 8-foot-tall open archway some 30' above you, directly above the doorway you entered through, on level now with Zargash, toward which he seems to be headed (directly above Titaani's head, 30' up.)

Matilda races around the broad ledge and past her friends to fetch her blade (Dash).

The beam falls upon Zargash once again (its effects apparent on his turn: DC14 CON Save: 22.)
"He's slow," growls Elkhorn to Titaani. "And soft. And unredeemably evil."
He then throws two of his own blades at the fleeing, ghostly form: Dagger #1 (Long) Ranged Attack: 6. Hit: 3 piercing damage. Dagger #2 (Long) Ranged Attack:16. Hit: 4 piercing damage.
Horatio, and Pud may act next! (Zargash is bout 40' from both.)
(Gaseous Zargash is stuck by one of Elkhorn's knives, wounding him slightly. But he's looking badly injured.) "Well, I'm out of blades..." grumbles Elkhorn.
Horatio tries to maneuver closer (movement), then lobs his last javelin at the enemy (( Attack 1: 23 to hit, 10 damage )). With no more proper ranged weapons to use, he continues around the circular room to retrieve his one remaining javelin.
Horatio delivers his javelin clean through the vaporous cleric's head. He goes limp for a moment. He appears unconscious - indeed, dead - but then he opens his eyes once again and continues drifting forward toward the upper opening on the east side of the chamber, appearing more dead than alive.
Then, Ben's arcane moonlight returns to blacken Zargash's misty skin. The black figure screams silently before becoming physical, and falling. His limp, unconscious, but no longer gaseous body plunges into the sludge.
"I guess so," Titaani says, peeking over the edge. "It's a pity we couldn't have gotten him to tell us some information, though. Like whether these pixies are on his side or not." She gestures to the frozen fairies above them.
With his makeshift grappling hook and rope near at hand from their experimenting with the cage, Ben looks to snag the body and tow it to “shore” if it surfaces long enough to make that possible.

Splat! The dead cleric lands half-immersed in the gooey, time-frozen sludge, and slowly begins to sink like a foundering ship in the foul-smelling slime.
The sludge appears to do... nothing. At least to Zargash's corpse.

Ben:
Dragging the corpse out of the muck, Ben is careful not to touch any of the fluid, as it may have effects on the living. He searches the body as best he can for useful items or any clues about their foe.
”Pud, if you don’t mind, please make sure the cage levers are all set to ‘above the muck’ in case they suddenly become active once time is restarted,” suggests Ben.

He wears black robes and hood, now saturated with reeking sludge. He wears that curious bat-shaped amulet around his neck. His quarterstaff and warhammer are high-quality as well, if also a little muck-covered right now.
