”Hey, this might be the book that we can write our names in and be allowed access to all the regular locked doors—but probably not that seven-locked one upstairs. What do you think?” he asks, moving over to look at the book.

The front cover of the book of the lecture is embossed with images of a lion and a hart, the two animals rearing up on their hind legs and facing each other.
Examining it closer, you see that a long list of names fills the book’s pages, many of them belonging to fairies, judging by their colorfulness. The hags of the Hourglass Coven – Skabatha Nightshade, Endelyn Moongrave, and Bavlorna Blightstraw – are listed near the middle of the book. Other names in the book include "Thinnings", "Shon", "Kalimanzaros", and "Raezil Uthemar". The final few names are written in a thin, spidery handwriting– Kelek, Zarak, Zargash, Warduke, and Skylla.
The quill bears a feather sheathed in flickering flames.
When it is Horatio's turn to write his name, an ornery grin will cross his face as a thought comes to mind. He uses the feather pen to black out the names of all their known adversaries. Then he writes in his own name. "Let's see what that does." He says to himself.
Ben signs his name as well. “Hopefully this will allow us to conserve uses of the chime,” he says, “though it doesn’t help us get down from here. I wonder if there is magic in the name the heads said to get us up here that would somehow get us back.”

"Hmm. Thinnings, Shon, Kalimanzaros, Raezil Uthemar," Titaani reads out loud for Matilda, then immediately gets distracted by the flaming quill. "Wow! It's on fire, but it doesn't hurt? That's so cool!"
Taking the pen, she scribbles in messy cursive: Titaani Breena Annabella Evie Leelathae. Pausing, she turns to her sister: "Is Matilda spelt with two Ls or just one? Also, what's your last name, again?"
With the names of Skabatha, Endelyn, and Bavlorna scratched out, together with Kelek, Zarak, Zargash, Warduke, and Skylla (anyone else?), and the party's names added (anyone not adding their name?), nothing seems to happen.
Examining the black book, there are no signs that "Zybilna" (or "Iggwilv" or "Baba Yaga" or any other names you've run across other than those mentioned) is listed anywhere on its pages. The first name in the book is "Kalimanzaros".
“I dunno. I was just worried the book wouldn’t work if I didn’t use my real name.
People only called me Archibald when they were mad at me or when I was in trouble. My little brother called me Arch. I liked that. But it makes me sad to hear it now.”
Pud turns away and shields his face as he wipes a tear.
“They started calling me Pud when I got here. Ya know, time is so weird in this dumb place, I probably been called Pud longer than I been called my real name! I kinda like being called Pud now. It helps me not think about the people back home. I mean, who knows if they’re still…you know.”

The party heads back upstairs to the multiply-locked door on the top floor of the tower. The ornate iron door remains covered with a complex array of cogs, latches, and tumblers. The round doorknob is engraved with the image of a nightingale with the inscription around its base that reads, “Speak My Name.” The first lock remains unlocked as you left it, but seven more remain firmly locked. (You've used seven of the ten charges of your magic chime.)
Upon speaking the name "Kalimanzaros"... nothing happens. The double doors remain securely and septuply locked.

"Yeah.... always take the roses when offered, right?" Horatio says as he offers to sign first to test it.
Matilda looks embarrassed, " I'm not so good with the writing.....can you help me, Sis?"
"Sure thing!" Titaani responds cheerfully. "My handwriting is pretty messy, though. Do you think the book will mind?"

Matilda has a look at the first page of the book, looking at the first names entered, " Whats that say, Sis?"

Horatio and Ben sign their names with the flaming quill. (Anyone else?) The flame coming off the feather is evidently illusory and harmless.
Nothing immediate seems to happen.
Where to? What next?
"Hmm. Thinnings, Shon, Kalimanzaros, Raezil Uthemar," Titaani reads out loud for Matilda, then immediately gets distracted by the flaming quill. "Wow! It's on fire, but it doesn't hurt? That's so cool!"

" Pilli. Matilda has one L."
" Can we look at the first page? Maybe the Queen had to sign herself?"
Pud waits patiently for his turn. As Horatio scratches out some of the names, Pud turns to Elkhorn.
“Hey, you said that the League has been defeated, but do you recognize any other names in the book? Anyone that’s bad news?
If you do, maybe we can try scratching out their names too.”
Pud peeks as Titaani signs Matilda’s name.
“Okay, my turn.”
Pud snatches up the flaming quill and hesitates a bit. Without removing his gaze from the book he asks everyone a question.
“You think I gotta put my real name in the book. Or the one that they gave me here?…”
After some deliberation, Pud writes his name in the smallest, most precise block letters.
”Archibald Tinkersmith aka Pud”

"Ar-chi-bald Tinker..tinkersmith," Titaani reads out slowly. "That's your real name, Pud? Would you rather we called you that?"
Ben:
”This ‘Kalimanzaros" name seems important,” says Ben, “Should we try it at the special door upstairs?”

Pud looks down and shrugs.
“I dunno. I was just worried the book wouldn’t work if I didn’t use my real name.

Pud realizes he spilled the beans and he awkwardly looks at wrist at a watch that’s nowhere to be seen.
He snorts up his snot and clears his throat.
“uh…speaking of time. It’s…uh…about that time we get moving.”
He turns and looks to Ben with a nod of his head.
“Sounds like a plan. Kali…Kalimanzaros does sound important. Sounds kinda evil too. Sorta like a demon?”

Titaani gives the artificer a tight hug. "Your family will be waiting for you back home, Pud. I know it."
She follows the others back up to the locked door.
