“Destroy is such a strong word…. I’m sure we can keep it safe. But I agree that - keeping him from getting it would be for the best. “ (DC 1perception check to see Tetrevess is excited about the power such books could give him)
Tetrevess will go with Chadderly. He also can read draconic.
He will help in the library as well- also gathering any arcane information or interesting history he can.
One of the tomes you examine is an almanac that lists past winners of the city’s Chain Lightning tournament. Characters who read this tome find a summary of the game’s rules.
In addition, you find a journal written by Thufeus, one of the few mages who survived Ythryn’s crash. It describes how the city fell from the sky and the attempts of its doomed survivors to escape*. The last entry reads “Iriolarthas is convinced that aid will come in time from Netheril. I am not so sure.”
Chadderlay will welcome Tetrevess' company in the tower of Conjuration. He takes a quick look around to find what is necessary, including a suitable place to cast the ritual.
"I agree with you that we should not be too hasty when it comes to destroying the books. But we definitely can't let Scrivenscry have it either."

<Huge lore dump, but you said you wanted to search the library, so what better place for it?>
After using the Ythryn mythallar to lift the enclave of Ythryn into the sky, Iriolarthas and his apprentices traveled to the frozen north in search of relics of Ostoria, a bygone empire of magic-wielding giants that waged war against the dragons forty thousand years earlier. After many fruitless excavations, they found a large stone spindle bearing strange sigils at the bottom of the Sea of Moving Ice and brought it back to Ythryn for study in the fall of −343 DR, the Year of Chilled Marrow. During one of their experiments, something went wrong—a flash of power from the spindle caused the Ythryn mythallar to shut down, which in turn caused the city to fall out of the sky and crash into the ice below.
The inhabitants of Ythryn had only a few moments to react as the city fell. Iriolarthas conjured a doorway to a magical demiplane and stepped through it just in time. As Ythryn settled into its icy grave, all magic in the city became undone for a brief time, as though something was trying to siphon it all away. The demiplane expelled Iriolarthas in that instant, trapping the lich in Ythryn. Iriolarthas searched the ruins of the city for his spellbook and his phylactery, recovering only the former. He also found several magical servants in stasis that had survived the devastation, as well as a handful of apprentices who had used their spells in ingenious ways to escape death.
Some of those inside tried to flee Ythryn, but glacial ice blocked all conventional routes of escape, and attempts to leave by magic were thwarted by a troublesome intercessor: the mysterious spindle in Iriolarthas’s citadel was still putting out magical pulses of energy to hinder spellcasting. By the time this disruption stopped some fifty years later, fear and madness had warped the minds of the apprentice mages, transforming them into nothics. Meanwhile, Iriolarthas grew increasingly feeble until, finally, the lich’s skeletal body turned to dust
None of the books of binding are actually here. Sadly, the arcanaloth is mistaken, though he does truly believe the volume to be here. Not sure how exactly to ask you how long you'll look, but it's just bot here.
However, I'm just really surprised to see how eager you are to find it. Sam will recall that a very similar item, one of the seven volumes of the Demonomicon of Iggwilv is apparently in the Barrier Peaks, which exists simultaneously on Toril and Oerth. Mary Graymalkin is there looking for it, and her patron/grandmother is the author, so she's probably right about the location. This is where Kwalish was last before stowing away in his temporally dilated demiplane. Kwalis then sent Sam on a one-way trip to ancient Oerth along with Tetrevess, before eventually being sent back to the current era (1490s DR Toril) by Heward.
Most of you would not have seen most of that, but it is still happening. She actually expects you to come back because Sam and friends kind of ruined the floating island she's ruling and she sent you to get Kwalish to fix it, again.
I'm going over all this to let you know that while these Books of Binding are utterly lost, to my knowledge, this other book full of demon true names is very much an object you can posess by completing that open quest if you want to. The next spoiler yells yoi exactly what is in the Demonomicon.
Demonomicon
This copy of theDemonomicon contains the true names of the following evil outsiders: a rutterkin named Ruskrish, a barlgura named Aorkalor, a babau named Iomyn, a succubus named Veirvalara, a succubus named Arivestrix, a yochlol named N'mosk, a bulezau named Echaklak, a shadow demon named Ovoros, a hezrou named Temesmad, a lilitu named llaraiandi, a glabrezu named Tresvilaz, a nafeshnee named Magortu, a molydeus named Nermanghax, and a minor demon lord of poisonous bones and teeth named Voroxid. These names hold significant value by themselves, but prove most valuable when combined with the spells within the Demonomicon. These unique spells, created by Iggwilv, are dolor, ensnarement, exaction, torment, minimus containment, imbrue, and implore.
Scrivenscry eyes Sam's enormous form. He looks unsurprised to see a huge reptile standing in the ancient library, but notices something that catches his interest. "You there, you're a brother of the order. Speak plainly. Are you here for the books as well?"
<Sam wears a pin indicating his membership in the Fraternity of Order, an organization native to Sigil, but currently based in Mechanus. They still have a lresence I'm the city of doors, which is where Sam met them. He actually met an Arcanoloth named Akin who runs a shop there. Different guy.>
“Yes, I am sarruk blood primus tryannus samgori the Order has helped me before I seek knowledge of the rest of my kind and history” he looks around the library “I belong you can help me and my court wizard Trevest Tombscribe”

(OOC Hm, well I suppose Angus would spend at least 2-3 hours searching, unless the others convince him not to. If we get Kingsport away from Scrivenscry, he would also try to question the penguin to find out how they can help him. Would a dispel magic do anything to release him from his bondage?)
Chadderlay will spend the hour and 10 min needed to ritual cast Find Familiar and bring back Mister Fancy. Right after he will rejoin the others to spend the last couple of hours helping them search for the lost books.

<Should be investigation. We'll press on, but maybe he finds something on a good roll.>
[Would a dispel magic do anything to release him from his bondage?]
<Well, I can't say, exactly. I think your suspicion that he's under some sort of magic is well-founded, but the details... I don't know what abilities you might have that would tell you that. Maybe an arcana check would suffice; medium difficulty.
If you did want to try dispel magic, the DC would be 15, or upcast.

<Ok. Slow down. So you and Tetrevess are headed to the tower of Conjuration for this, then?>
This tower is engraved with interlocking circles of stone. Yellow light spills from its topmost window, and the faint sound of brooms brushing on stonework drifts through its broken doors. The tower’s interior is ruined but surprisingly clean, thanks to permanent unseen servant spells that continuously sweep the floors.
Ascending the spiral stairs that line the interior walls of the tower, you find on the upper floor, you find the source of the yellow light.
Glowing orbs are set into the walls of this thirty-foot-diameter circular chamber. Four giant hands made of shimmering force hover in the center of the room, guarding a tiny ornamental tower perched on a pedestal.
As soon as you set foot in the chsmber, the hands move toward you.
Roll for initiative
<Im trying a new initiative system. On your side, it's not too different, but there is one substantial change. We essentially have side initiative, but the enemies have a target that is static and derived by a formula. If you roll above the target you can act quickly and may choose to act before the enemies, otherwise your turn is after the enemies if your initiative roll is below the target. Make sense? For this encounter, the target is just 10.
(Fyi: My mod to the system I'm taking this from is the option to delay your turn, rather than using a reaction on a held action. The source system is set in such a way that you'd never want to not go first, ever.)>

In around −30,000 DR, the Nether Scrolls or, as they were then known, the Golden Skins of the World Serpent,[1] were created in Oreme by the sarrukh. They sought to gather all magical knowledge from their vast empire's borders into one location, in order to consolidate their arcane power. This effort spawned its own secret society, the Ba'etith, and lasted thousands of years after the fall of the empires of the Creator Races. Their creation included magic from the batrachi and aearee, but did not include that of the fey or humans.
The Netherese discovered the scrolls amid the ruins of Aryvandaar in −3533 DR, marking the beginning of the Nether Age of the empire.

You also learn the following information about the city:
Apprentice mages would graduate from the House of the Arcane and join one of eight arcane towers, each one dedicated to a different school of magic.
The city’s elite wore robes of silk that displayed shifting, illusory patterns.
An abracadabrus is a magic box that can create food and drink, among other things.
<at least one of those facts should be useful>

Known also as the Vyshaantar Empire, Aryvandaar was a sun elf kingdom that fell during the Fifth Crown War.

Will Angus try dispel magic on Kingsport?
