<No level up just yet. It is just ahead, though. Also, 4 hours into the resting, Avarice made off with the book, so the decision to keep resting is up to you, if you become aware of it. I thonk this was a good plan, but unforseen absence has maybe squashed the momentum here.>
Within the book, it is revealed that the ancient elves once opened a gate to the far realm. It is through this fate that the elder evil known as Father Llymic entered this world.
If you got the long rest, you'd be trapped for ten days in thst room. Thst woukd be a bad thing. So, following the teifling after a short rest (or 4), you find yourself on thr upper level of a large hexagonal space, open in the center with a glittering domed roof. statues and other objects of art have fallen from their plinths and lie in broken shards across the floor, and centuries of exposure have ruined most of the paintings that hang on the walls in elaborate frames.
Suspended from the ceiling of a spacious fifty-foot square antechamber is the glittering, frost-covered corpse of a thirty-foot-long aberration shaped like a funnel, resembling an anemone. A tooth-filled maw at the wider end is surrounded by rubbery cilia, and around it dangle four limp, spindly appendages, each one ending in a clawed hand. At the opposite end of the body is a tail with a stinger.
A frost-covered plaque is bolted to a pedestal nearby, and the entire display is framed by four stone pillars that are, oddly, frost-free.
The dead creature is a magically preserved phaerimm suspended from the ceiling by a dozen strong wires. Wiping away the frost on the plaque, you read what it says about the phaerimm in Draconic:
ADULT PHAERIMM—DO NOT TOUCH!
Dwellers of the Underdark, phaerimm are malevolent aberrations that are master spellcasters and highly resistant to magic. They use their telepathy to control the weak-minded. They strive to erase all other beings from existence and are known to have caused the collapse of the sarrukh empire of Isstosseffifil. They use their tail stingers to inject their eggs into alien hosts.

Proceeding farther into the upper floor can see the museum’s domed ceiling, which is still intact and a sight to behold. It depicts a powerful mage standing on a balcony of the enclave’s central spire, addressing a sea of Netherese citizens below, who stare up at the figure, cheering. This is an image of Iriolarthas at the height of his power, magically preserved in stained glass that glows with its own arcane light. Eight large portraits adorn the walls beneath the dome, depicting Iriolarthas’s eight apprentices, known as the Wizards of the Ebon Star. The portraits hang 20 feet above the ground, and a frost-covered plaque is fixed to the wall just beneath each one. The faces in the portraits are depicted as looking up toward their master, Iriolarthas, with expressions of respect. By scraping the ice from the plaques, you see their names: High Abjurer Taruth, High Conjurer Damorith, High Diviner Apius, High Necromancer Cadavix, High Evoker Zadulus, High Illusionist Ajamar, High Enchanter Ivira, and High Transmuter Metaltra.
(Ok! I love this module. The descriptions are so cool!). Tetrevess is totally fascinated by all of this, but is also looking for avarice. He wants those spells!
Beneath the domed ceiling stands a vast orb of glowing warm light. The luminous fifty-foot-diameter crystal sphere rests on an ornate stand. Avarice sits, eyes closed on the floor before the mythallar. The spellbook of Iriolarthas rests on her lap. You see the spark of arcane energy as it arcs between the pale tiefling and the ancient vessel of power, the excitation growing into myriad branches of ephemeral tendrils. With a rumble, from beside the meditating wizard, the floor begins to crack. Pieces of the floor fall into the fissure created as the rift widens, an object emerges: a metal cuboid on a long pole. Following it is a featureless smooth nodule of flesh, which broadens to reveal shoulders and a pair of arms, one of which holds aloft an enormous hammer. A large open mouth filled with multiple rows of teeth splits across the creature's abdomen.
Though eyeless, it seems to be fixated on Avarice. (It's initiative is 14.) Morwena who followed at a distance now looks on, her expression inscrutable.
<so, what's the plan? That thing might remove Avarice from the equation, or it might just be there for the book. Or, maybe she summoned it to do her bidding. Who knows?>
Does he have any idea what this thing is? (19 arcana, 25 history checks in log)
“Avarice! What is that thing!” He yells out, hoping to either distract her, distract it, or something..
Avarice seems to be unaware of her surroundings.
<you saw one if these things, well part of one, when you first entered the city.
"At the foot of the causeway, a giant statue lies prone and motionless, its surfaces gleaming with rime." But not really. If you were really CSI about it you might realize the conflict that led to the demise of the stone creature (this one is not stone, but living flesh) was within a tenday of your arrival.>
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(DM I have prest the long rest button on my character sheet whilst waiting for your response I’ll put Sam back down to the hit points and spell slot he had before hand)
Sam looks at the egg of the monsters that partly caused his people ruin
then goes downstairs to find this monster downstairs looks at the tefling then back to their red wizard ally “this is why you don’t have the right to use this magic”
“Sam and Angus- I think we should kill this thing. Don’t care if we save avarice or not, but it would be a shame to lose that spellbook.” Tetrevess telepathic communicates to his group.

Sam follows weapon gripped (so are we getting the Lev up after the adventure or now as me and T have completed a long rest? Just want to double check)

<i just wanted to include a cannon image of a phaerimm >
A large open mouth filled with multiple rows of teeth splits across the creature's abdomen.
Though eyeless, it seems to be fixated on Avarice. (It's initiative is 14.) Morwena who followed at a distance now looks on, her expression inscrutable.
(Great monster pic… and the one Avarice is with….!)
Tetrevess has initiative 7.. still groggy and thrown off by the sudden appearance, and not sure what to do about it.
Avarice seems to be unaware of her surroundings.
<you saw one if these things, well part of one, when you first entered the city.

Sam looks at the egg of the monsters that partly caused his people ruin

iniative 22
<It's fine. I don't often look at character sheets.>
I realize that Tetrevess would probably determine that there had been a magical barrier around the mythallar, but it was recently dismissed.
Avarice has rhe surprised condition. Morwena doesn't act to stop the creatures advance toward the tiefling.
The creature drops its hammer, raises its arms and grabs at Avarice with both claws.
11 for 22 slashing
19 for 22 slashing
The creature shoves the tiefling into its mouth. 13 for 22.
<I was wrong, the claws do 16 slashing each. The bite is 22.>
Tetrevess finally reacts. “I order you to let her go!” He yells out, waving the staff of power.
he reaches out with his mind and attempts to telekinetic shove the creature into the ball of swirling color behind it.
(telekinetic shove: DC 19 STR save or move 5’ in direction of my choice) Bonus actionS
he then launches a firebolt at the beast, hoping to hit it and not Avarice, although he’s not real worried about avarice at the moment.
18 to hit
12 damage
If the creature makes the STR save Tetrevess will use silvery barbs to force a reroll.
“Sam and Angus- I think we should kill this thing. Don’t care if we save avarice or not, but it would be a shame to lose that spellbook.” Tetrevess telepathic communicates to his group.
