<not sure what's going on lately. People have just been ghosting. Sam is up. The encounter is winnable if you choose to fight the monster ( ot a bad idea) but pretty hard if it's just Sam and Tetrevess. I guess I could post a map, but if im out if players, maybe just a narrative conclusion until I can find some more? >

Sam responds using the link “well then are options are few T stay back” he pulls a familiar beed from his necklace “and get ready to yank me back as well”
bouns action as it comes from the necklace he will cast planner ally (was saving this for the Demi lich as a last resort until it evaporated before us) Sam will rush and swings at the creature
Sam's expended bead erupts into a cloud if smoke, from which emerges a serpentine figure, bearing distinctive Ariane features, a prominent psitecene beak, a feathery mane, and a large pair of minds, bedecked in aerial feathers. It's shimmering iridescent scales glisten in the unearthly magical light of the Ythryn Mythallar. It's knowing eyes finding Samogri at once, the creature asks in telepathic speeh, unshielded so the others can also hear, "I can see you are in need of assistance. I can help you. But I must know, to what end? What do you seek to accomplish here, and what are you willing to sacrifice?"

Angus will resummon his spirit shroud and leap to attack the creature chewing on Avarice.
"We are quite familiar with your God. But Qotol would not approve of your evil quest to unleash the night serpent to devour the sun, completing the circle of nigth. Yet, that is your destiny, as you claim. Your priestly wisdom has revealed to you much, but not all. If you would have my aid this day, my price is this. You must make a sacrifice to Qotol, in the great tradition. But you must do so with peace in you're heart. By potent pluma, my word is bound. As Qotol rleaed the thirteen butterflies upon the great zigurat, before defeating Zaltec, so shall the serpent shed its skin and birth the world anew. You will swear this, and should you fail to uphold your word, you will ensure your demise at the hands of the very people you wish to impose the tyranny upon. The same tyrsnny with which the Sarrukh empire once strangled the world. Vow this, and your bidding will be done.
<Explanation: Sam is evil, because @Legion4 asked to be. Coatls are good, like pure good. But, both Sams Sarruck li eage and the coatls were a part of tbe same ancient empire befire they split off and both worshipped the world serpent, though different aspect of it. The coatl's bargain is just a choice if you make it to the acrual ebd of the game, "fulfill your destiny" you do the same thing either way, but the impact of your motivation at that time has radically different consequences. Also, Pluma is an ancient form of "Feather-magic" coatls are known for. >
This might also be an interesting side noy for Tetrevess, who does not belong to one of the nine schools of magic the ebon star observed, as seen in their seating and doorways in the previous area. This may in fact he the source of that tradition, as the Netherese used a grouping of three 'schools' called the Fields of Mythal: Inventive, Mentalism and Variation.
The three Fields of Mythal were the way the powerful arcanists of Netheril grouped their spells, similar to the nine schools of magic known to the wizards of later ages. Each arcanist was a specialist in one Field, had minor insight into a second and could not cast spells from the third Field.
Inventive
Inventives were spells used to create or destroy. A specialist in this Field was called an inventor.
Mentalism
Mentalisms were spells designed to influence the minds of persons or creatures. They were used by mentalists.
Variation
Variations were spells that changed and transformed things, energies and states, including other spells. A specialist in this Field was called a variator.
Ythryn fell before Karsus' folly, meaning this concept existed before the death of Mystryl, but flourished under the resurrected Mystra. Tetrevess could figure all of this from the contents of the library you were just in, and the chamber before that.

<thanks for quoting @Rob88scps2, T. I actually missed that post, originally. Glad youre ok and still with us. I never posted another yhread to recruit, but i did tsg this one as open. We'll see if we get more back before we try actively recruiting. Did you notice the book in the library noting how the elves of Myth Drannor in favr opwned the original far realm gate that let Father Llymic through, though they were able to encase him in ice, tbey could not destroy him and he waits, even now, to make this work a part of the far realm.>
Angus cuts the faceless creature deeply, opening shining wounds with his holy weapon, light pouring from each as he draws the next line in the foul thing's damp skin, before the last twinkles out. Staggered. The creature (the Netherese called them "thaluud", or "faceless") is helpless to defend against the coatl entwining its limbs
<i kind of planned on just letting Sam's bargain win the day, aince the DM gets ro pick what us summoned. But we can roll it if you want. Victory is pretty much a foregine conclusion now though.>

The thaluud drops his hammer in the struggle, trying to grapple the coatl from his body, gnashing the rows of teeth lining his abdominal maw as he starts shoveling at the ground with his clawed toes, sending first bits of tile, then clods of dirt into the air. "He's burrowing ." Morwena observes "don't let him get beneath the surface!"
Avarice writhes as her legs kick and flail. In an instant, they turn to solid ice. The creature swallowing her begins to choke as the coatl tightens its grip. Moments later, it regurgitates the frozen teifling, who hits the floor with a thud. The coatl bites the thaluud, but the faceless monster bites back, causing the winged serpent to scream in agony. The pair collapse onto eachothet, locked in their struggle. But the coatl's bite is venomous, and in seconds, the thaluud lies still. The coatl crawls away from the defeated creature. It casts upon itself a spell of cure wounds, before changing shaoe to resembke an old tabaxi woman. Then, as it looks to the fallen Aavarice, it speaks, clearly exhausted. "This teifliing, what was her name?" it asks.
Morwena replies, "Avarice, kind savior, was the name she took." The Tabaxi looks to the Thayan, "You knew her, then? It is not my place to judge this stranger, but you can tell much by the company one keeps. Tell me, dear, did she deserve this fate?"
After mulling the question for a few seconds, the answer comes "Yes, she was only interested in power for herself. She sought to take whatever she could and used anyone she could in the name of her fiendish quest for power and her infernal master. She sought this fordaken place to ruke over it and control its power and its ancient secrets."
"I see." Says the wisened tabaxi. "Well, truthfully, I believe I could restore her to life. But, from what I have heard, I do not think I can save her. Only she had the power to do that." Looking deeply into Morwena's eyes, she notes again "You can learn a lot from the company one keeps. Wouldn't you agree?" The woman asks, turning to Tetrevess.
Tetrevess looks at the old Tabaxi in shock, as if she sees right into his soul. A sense of guilt over his own selfish quest for knowledge and power fills him as he sees the body of Avarice- seeing himself there for a moment. He glances at his red robes.
“yes… I agree. I am grateful for your help, we are all weakened from these fights in this place. The power we have found here… I will be certain to use it to attempt to prevent the calamity I see coming. Avarice does not deserve to live again. But she did not die in vain. I pledge that, I will be worthy of the use of these tools and knowledge, or die trying. “. He retrieves the ancient spellbook that avarice had, and gestures with the staff. “I’ll also share these spells with those of like mind.” He looks to Morwena. “And you can keep the book when I’m done copying.”

<Also Angus and Chadderlay if those guys are still around>
“Apparently don’t bother with fire. And this thing is strong. Was trying to push it into that glowing sphere” Tetrevess mutters in sam’s head.

“So it be”
“Sounds like a plan” Tetrevess mutters. “I really need to learn more about these things. Hang on Avarice, if you can hear us. Help is coming.”
