Bjorn stalks back to the house and up to the gnome's room. He removes the mirror from the desk and takes it to the kitchen, placing it on the table facing the painting of the Hosttower. And he watches the painting's reflection for a moment, looking for movement -- before, it seemed to be a true living image of the location, but he doesn't want to look directly at it for fear of getting transported again.
He calls up to Sorsha, "If you had to reach the Hosttower by foot, how quickly could you do it?"
The reflection of the painting is very strange, instead of the accurate quality painting of the tower, it looks more abstract, just blobs of colors situated where the objects are depicted. The colors in the mirror seem more translucent and seem to have a sort of life of their own. ( kind of like looking at Amoebas under a microscope )
Bjorn raises a quizzical eyebrow and heads back upstairs, locking the front door on the way. "I feel as though I know less now than before we left. Ah well. Let's get this investigation wrapped up."
"There are certainly some loose ends here. I agree, lets wrap up our search of the house and be done with it." Sparhawk showing some frustration that they didn't catch the man. He did always enjoy a good interrogation.
"Blast," Vars says. "He obviously knew something, judging by his reaction to your disguise." He shakes his head, wishing he'd been a little quicker with his bow.
The room Eberk opened up and magically checked is Abernath’s actual laboratory with all the beakers, glass jars, alcohol burners etc. the main table has some stagnant liquid sitting in a beaker over an empty burner. The real interest in this room is on the right hand side. There you see a 4’ high by 3’ wide clear cube of some unknown substance. Trapped within this cube you see The gnome Butterman, his hand held high over his head with a shoddy looking dagger and a look of pure murder on his face. To the left of him is a door to another room that is slightly ajar.
"If he's the one who killed the other servants, then he's been trapped here for quite a while. Think he's dead?" Bjorn changes his appearance back to normal and carefully approaches the cube, to inspect the gnome's face for signs of life.

Vars nods to Sparhawk, pulling out the key he got from the hidden compartment. He too looks around the room for a lock.

"This might be a bad idea...but maybe we should try to get him out of there," Vars says hesitantly as he glances about the room. "He might be our only witness. Besides, unless this gnome has some extreme skills, there is no way he could take all of us at once--especially right after getting out of stasis." He pauses, "We could try to just free his head and see if that works...if he's even still alive."
"Not sure how we would get him out of there."Sorsha says looking at the murderous gnome in the cube. "If we did he would likely not know where Abernath is I think. He could possibly provide us with some other answers though."

Eberk walks through the room towards the open door. “He is probably in there for a reason. We should inform Irongrass and get his opinion on letting out the gnome.” Eberk slowly pushes the door open further and peers inside.

Besides the debris you find a 1/2 eaten sandwich. He must have been there for a while.

(Sorsha tries to answer Bjorn to the best of her knowledge. Her player has no idea.)
[Hm. Guess we lost him.]

Frangipani stayed as a cat for now and hitched a ride on Sparhawks shoulder, carrying the coin purse delicately in her jaws.
"I always wanted a cat" Smiles Sparhawk as he gives her a pet with his gauntleted hand.
