Bjorns calls out for the guards as three more seagulls make him their perch. Of in the distance, he can see a few of the defense forces outside their barracks and a couple of the soldiers seem to have heard his calls, and begun walking towards the tower.
Kutoti begins by saying, “ my dear friend Abernath used to run a traveling carnival of sorts that was very popular with the villages all down the sword coast. He did Not have many enemies, other than the usual evil that roams here and there. He had an encounter of two with the red wizards of Thay, many, many years ago. the last time we spoke was 6 months ago. He had been looking for some place to build his own tower and was researching a magic book he had found. It is normal for wizards to disappear from time to time on research and such, but he missed the annual gathering. Something one just doesn’t do. When we went to his house, he wasn’t found there, and his breakfast was still on the table. If you chose to take on this quest, you could probably start there. Maybe you will find some clue in his home. The reward would be 1000 gold for information only, 10,000 for his safe return. 2000 for proof of his demise if that sadly is the case…hopefully my friend still lives.”
"Thank you Ironmage, we will certainly look into the disappearance of your friend. We would need to know where to find his house and we will be off to deliver your message back to Mr. Fist." Sorsha says with a reassuring smile.

Vars nods slowly, listening as Kutoti speaks. When the wizard is finished he says, "Yes, hopefully he still lives.... So whatever or whoever is responsible for his disappearance, took him from his own house...I'd assumed..." He shakes his head. "This has definitely sparked my interest. Where is his house located?" He looks to each of his companions as if inquiring whether or not they are interested as well.
(Would Vars know anything about the Red Wizards of Thay?)
"Oh, a few more quick questions before we depart," Vars speaks up again. "Would you say his encounter with the Red Wizards was...unfriendly? Could they have had anything to do with his disappearance? Also, you mentioned that the last time you spoke with him was six months ago. Why so long? Do you know if anyone else has been in contact with him any more recently than yourself? If not, and if you don't mind me asking, did everything seem...normal when you last spoke to him. No signs that he was hiding something or from something?"
"In addition", says Sparhawk, also curious, "If we find Abernath, do you have a token, saying or something we can tell him to let him know we are trusted allies of yours?" As Sparhawk, suspected, the groups bad luck had certainly turned. He grabs a tasty piece of cheese and bread as he realizes he hasn't eaten in a while. He nods to the others, giving his approval of the job.
“ it is doubtful any of the Red Wizards would have ventured this far and attack one of the brotherhood so near the tower. Their conflict was a very long time ago. As I said, it is normal for wizards to be absent. He gave no indication of trouble the last time we spoke and seemed rather excited about his plans and the book he discovered. His house is located near the stables and the Northern gate to the city. House number 13. Don’t be deceived by its appearance, it is a wizards abode after all..now you will have to excuse me, I have work to do and samples to collect from the crab specimens on the beach..Good night my friends.”
as he says this you are all suddenly sitting outside the front entrance. A voice rings out “ one more thing, the tower has many eyes and sees everything going on around it. Hopefully your companion remembers this..heh heh”
you look up and see Bjorn, covered with a dozen seagulls and their droppings. Some soldiers had come to see what the noise was and are currently laughing at bjorns situation.
soon as the voice finishes, Bjorn drops to the ground and the seagulls vanish in a puff.
"Oh and by the way, our overly curious and somewhat spontaneous friend may be stuck on your tower. If so, any chance you can bring him here to join us? Although he can be annoying, he does have some "skills" which I think would come in very handy in solving this mystery. Watch your purse and valuables if you do summon him." Sparhawk smiles, hoping his capricious friend is ok.
Vars chuckles and waves to the eye on the tower, "Thank you, I'm sure we will meet again." He turns to Bjorn, "Gods above Bjorn, you are lucky he seemed to like us."
Still smiling, he starts walking back towards the docks, "I'm assuming we want to go back the same way we came?" He pauses, then turns to Sorsha, "Is it just me, or did that seem to easy? Why did Fist hire us to take that letter, when it sounded like Kutoti had spoken to him not that long ago? Why not bring the letter himself? Or send just one person to deliver it? I didn't expect too much resistance, but I did expect something to try and intercept that letter. ...unless those crabs were somehow involved..." He shakes his head, "And this missing wizard. If it wasn't the Red Wizards of Thay or some other enemy, I have a feeling this job is going to be a lot harder than I'd first anticipated. I suspect we are going to go to that house and discover no signs of a kidnapping. Rather, I'd reckon his disappearance has something to do with that book Kutoti said Abernath was so excited about."
“Let’s not make too many assumptions yet. I will agree though, finding a missing wizard will be complicated whether he disappeared be force or by choice.” Eberk begins heading back towards the scene of the attack.
Frangipani had spent the meeting studying the wizard intently, and studying his array of snacks even more studiously. She, having spent most of her younger years in subnautical seclusion, had no knowledge of Red Wizards whatsoever, and simply nodded that making the missing mans home the first port of call was the most logical move.
She paid little attention to Bjorn other than a slight smirk as she followed the others.
Checking her pouch as they left she noted she had quite a selection of cheese and cured meats from the wizards charcuterie board......with the crab meat and the kidney and a few withered vegetables and wild rice she had the fixings of a decent jambalaya.
Fuming, Bjorn grumbles about how he'll never trust a bird again, and that they shouldn't be able to shit if they're not even real birds, blasted wizards...
"Wait," he says. "This Infernal person got tangled up with Red Wizards? And you want to go after him? And *I'm* suicidal?"
"You know something of the Red Wizards?" Vars asks Bjorn, surprised. Grumbling, he says under his breath, "I never hear anything about wizards." Turning back to Bjorn he says, "Kutoti said that it isn't likely the Red Wizards had anything to do with it...but then again. Why did he even mention it if it wasn't important?" He ponders for a moment, "Do you know anything that would suggest otherwise?"
Bjorn knows that the red wizards live in the land of Thay. The ruler is a Lich and they are nasty wizards of high power and skill. Normally they don’t leave Thay, at least not in the open as Thay has few allies. Bad dudes, to say the least.
Sorsha is just about to grab something for herself to eat as she and the others are shunted back out of the Arcane Host Tower again. "Well he doesn't waste time."She mutters while regaining her bearings. "Okay let's head back to dock 9." She says ushering the others along, motioning for Vars to take point again, leading them back along the docks, then giving Bjorn a scornful glance. "Do any shenanigans like that again and we won't be working together no more, that's a promise."She snarls.
She then turns to Vars. "Perhaps Mr. Fist simply hired us to test our loyalty. I doubt the crabs were there to intercept us but either way the letter got delivered and we have a contact in the Arcane Brotherhood."She says, allowing herself a quick smile. "Nothing much would surprise me with a missing wizard, maybe he is literary lost in that book that was mentioned. We would of course need to be careful when we investigate this and if we face something we can't handle we will fall back. But first things first, let's see what Mr. Fist has in store for us."
As you head back across the bridge, the guards are returning to their posts, chatting about the nights exciting events. A few of them recognize you all from beach and they give you a. Nod and a quick good job as you pass by. When you get back to the beach and look for Dock 9 you realize something strange…there are only 4 docks…it seems you have a puzzle to solve.
( these are the only docks you know of, you will need to investigate to find the secret of the 9th dock)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Wait, dock 9, what was I thinking, there's no such thing...or is there?"Sorsha says, looking at the rest of the crew. "Any idea what Mr. Fist could have referred to when he mentioned dock 9 as the meeting place. I suspect he is testing our wits right now."She says, then trying to access all her knowledge about Luskan, Mr. Fist, the docks and the underworld. Is there for instance a secret warehouse or a barge meeting place nicknamed dock 9?

[I don't know what type of skill would be associated with this knowledge, but lucky for me, I don't have any of them, so it's just Intelligence.] 18
Low roll: "They're wizards. You put enough of them in one place, you get..." He indicates his current situation.
High roll: Whatever the actual facts are, lol.
( the check would be a History check or Arcana)
