"Very well, folks. I will go work on my Gyrobeam and have a quick chat with this Jorge. I guess I'll see you tomorrow morning. Exciting !" Markus packs up quickly his stuff and walks towards his room.
Shrugging at Bosko's offer to give the couple privacy she then considered before shaking her head. "As nice as privacy would be, I don't think you'll be allowed to sleep in the common room or the streets. So as long as you're polite and don't mind our snoring, it's fine." She tried to reassure, no stranger to having to share rooms over the years. She doubted there would be any problems as long as there were at least two beds. Though that made her worry about the size of the beds. Glancing at both of her very tall companions with a sigh.
Honestly it was fun just watching Bosko interact with people and look hopelessly overwhelmed. Sure it was a little mean, but he just seemed so cute! Especially when he looked back at her and Lazarus for help. The half elf could barely contain her mirth behind a hand as the other clung to the firbolg's arm before clearing her throat with a too wide smile to be considered casual as she approached the chaos, patting Bosko on the arm reassuringly.
"Technically we aren't the hirers so we can't say if you'll be welcomed aboard but the other two that were with us when we received the offer seemed to have wandered off before he even finished giving it so I'm sure some more help wouldn't be not appreciated."The auburn haired woman shrugged before saying, "The worst thing that could happen is that Jorge says no. Alyndra Ryder by the way." She offered a small wave in offer of greeting at the humans. She was fairly sure that the woman was drunk and the man might be 'on' something.
Though his numerous mentions of interesting items on his person as well as odd cords around himself did draw her attention.
"I'm sure boat experience wouldn't hurt, though Jorge didn't seem off put at our own lack of knowledge." Taking Sunita's words at face value. "We're basically going to be acting as caravan guards only instead of a caravan it'll be a boat. Ship? ....Sea craft. Just have to make sure a representative and shipment arrive to their destination safely. Jorge mentioned the possibility of pirates. Two day journey and after that, easy money and a vacation." Intentionally not giving the price they were offered as payment in case Jorge changed it.
At Sunita's mention of a drink, Alyndra hesitated before glancing at her husband and shaking her head. "We should save our money for supplies for the journey unfortunately. Speaking of which... Let's put our stuff in the room and head to the market."
The innkeeper gladly lets you into your rooms to drop off your extra belongings. When you do so, you discover that while the beds are rather large, they're not quite long enough to fit an entire firbolg without him needing to curl up tightly, but since they're basically platforms with mattresses on them, you can see that they'll indeed be sturdy enough to hold both Lazarus and Alyndra in a very cozy cuddle.
Once you do this, you head back out to Soyer street, where you see numerous merchant shops and carts that offer a wide variety of goods and services.
(What in particular do you need, or are you hoping to find?)
Seeing the size of the beds, the half elf pats her husband in half hearted consolation. A common problem they had been running into. It looked like Bosko would be in the same predicament with how long limbed he was.
Alyndra is looking for a replacement Alchemy Kit that isn't too costly as well as rations for the journey. She'd also be keeping an eye out for a bookstore so she could snag something to read on the journey and any parchment and ink for sale.
“Had cider before, better to not. Not like sore head in morning”, Bosko says to Sunita, relieved that Alyndra had taken control of the conversation about the job, but declining the drink.
He happily drops his backpack on one of the beds, the smaller if they are different, before heading out shopping. If he bumps into Sunita or Markus on the way out, he will ask simply, “Shops?”.
He will look for some fishing tackle to help him hunt fish on the journey, as Sunita would say.
As you make your way through the merchant district, which right now, does not seem very busy... probably because most people are on the other street enjoying the wine festival, you see a couple of shops that match the things you're looking for.
About a third of the way down the street, Alyndra spots see a store called Tipple's Tomes, and a place called Avani's Apothecary. You also spot a general store that you imagine would sell things like fishing tackle and other types of adventuring gear.
"I'm fair with either or but I mean, I figured we'd all be on a bit of a budget at the moment but to each their own." He would then look to his wife as she would bring about their snoring and he would add. "I mean, I think I've heard worse than mine and yours is more background noise." He would then look to the new comers as they literally seemed to be coming out of the woodworks and as Alyndra would give her opinion on if they would be welcomed or not, she couldn't say but he would also add.
"Well, I mean, the more bodies, the better the chance that nothing bad would happen...right? Right." He would reassure himself before it could be swayed otherwise. After giving her name, the firbolg making a snide comment. "And bam, a fae owns you. That's how it works I'm pretty sure." He would say very unsure of himself. He'd raise a hand in a small greeting. "Lazarus."
He would then let Alyndra do the talking as he would look over the two, becoming fairly interested in male human's outfit the most as it just seemed to pop.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"That's fair."The half elf agreed easily to Lazarus' sentiment that the more truly was the merrier in terms of protection given the job. After his snide comment she blinked, stunned before opening and closing her mouth like a caught fish as he turned around and just as easily provided his own name. "You-! I-! Clearly even if they were fae, I just stated my name, I didn't give it to them. Wording is key!" Feeling very impassioned as she pointed a finger at her husband over the matter even as she tried to remember what she studied about the Fae and Faewild. (History check to see what Alyndra knows of the Fae and name giving/stealing: 22 )
"Let's get the important things out of the way so we know how much money we have left to play with." The auburn haired woman counseled, gently tugging the firbolg with her by the hand towards the general store. "Do you have much experience with fishing Bosko?"
Sunita declined the offer of shopping with a smile and tucked away accompanying the small group to meet this Jorge in the morning.
She took a large gulp of her ale and closed her eyes, " Auf Wiedersehen, Freunde.", she whispered into the wood of the table and lay her head down for as long a nap as she could get before the innkeeper woke her.
When woken she made her way unsteadily back home, trying to avoid her parents worried but slightly disapproving gaze before crashing into the cot set up in their attic, before nodding off yet again she remembered to attach a note to her door asking her parents to wake her before dawn.....they were old they would have been up for hours by then she figured.
Bosko nods, "Fish in river and lake, and from shore. Not fished from boat in middle of sea". He looks quite pleased about the prospect of trying from a boat. Assuming of course that is a grin on the Bugbears furry face.
He heads into the general store a bit cautiously, looking around and hoping it isn't too busy.
"Um..Need fishing things", he says to whoever looks like they are working there, trying to hide his features under his hat, but not really succeeding.
As the three of you approach the shops, Alyndra tries to remember any folklore she's heard that pertains to the idea of a fey being able to steal someone's name. While she can't recall anything specific, she has definitely heard the old stories that says if a faerie asks for your name and you say it, you’re giving them power (and possibly complete control) over you. The best thing to do in this situation is to give the faerie a made-up name or your nickname. At the very least, if they know your name they could enchant or lure you, they might even be able to influence your behavior in some way. However, if you know their name and say it, then they will leave you alone.
The general idea is that if you know someone’s name you have a certain measure of power over them. Of course, most folk don’t have the necessary powers needed to do much more than simple things with a name, whereas fey, do indeed possess an entirely different sort of skills and powers. This is why most common folk fear them. However, much of this can easily be relegated to myth and folklore, and Alyndra has never heard of anyone actually having their name stolen by a fey. It would almost that such a feat would be impossible.
At the same time, she finds herself imagining for a few moments what it might mean to have your name stolen. In reality, names are actually pretty easy to come by, and nearly everybody has a last name to fall back, on and sometimes an extra name or two between their first and last names. And many people have nicknames, as well. If it were stolen, perhaps people would begin to fall back on these other names that belong to you. Maybe they would even forget your name, but if that were so, if they thought hard enough, or were reminded, they they could probably remember the name that used to be yours, but they might be unable to shake off the feeling that it’s wrong somehow, that it doesn’t belong to you or fit you anymore.
You might even pick up a new name, one you’ve chosen yourself or a new nickname. Most people will happily move to that, thinking in their secret most thoughts that it feels right, more comfortable, but never quite able to consciously say why. Even parents might find this to be true, as years and years of calling you by the name they chose seem to not matter that much as they slip into calling you something else entirely.
All that being said, it just doesn't seem like everyone would suddenly and magically forget your name entirely and forever as if it never had existed. Mostly because that would cause a huge stir as people suddenly find that a person whose name they’ve known all their life suddenly doesn’t seem to have a name and they can’t remember or find it. People would notice and raise a fuss. And how many people do you know, even casually, that would know your name somehow? Probably a lot of people, and to make that many people forget would have to involve a serious amount of power. It just doesn't seem like a single pixie, or a sprite, or a satyr would really have that much power. Maybe a hag.... those things are pretty darn creepy. Who knows what they're capable of?
So, while its not impossible that a fey creature would go to all this effort to directly punish you for something that infuriated them, Alyndre finds it hard to believe they’d put that much effort in for it when they could just turn you into a goat or something else of that sort and be done with it.
Meanwhile, Bosko heads into general store and inquires about fishing things. The stocky bearded human who runs the place gives him a slightly quizzical look before producing a kit that includes a wooden rod, silken line, corkwood bobbers, steel hooks, lead sinkers, velvet lures, and narrow netting.
"One gold and you'll have all the gear you need to catch just 'bout anything you'd want."
Walking up to the general store and even walking into it, Alyndra was lost in thought, clearly having an entire dialogue in her own head as she pondered the mysteries of the Fae. Eyebrows arching and head tilting or nodding and even occasionally shaking as she continued her inner conversation, near oblivious to her immediate surroundings and only narrowly able to traverse obstacles via her rock of a husband, both physically and metaphorically. Her green eyes were focused on absolutely nothing, staring off into the middle distance until Bosko's voice broke her out of her reverie with a blink.
"Hm?" The half elf asks rhetorically before her mind caught up to her ears and she responded, "Ah. Well hopefully it's not too different. I imagine it might be based on the size of the boat. Ship? If it's very tall (and I've seen some fairly tall ships in harbors we've visited) I imagine you'd need an extremely long fishing line to reach the water. If that would even work. And I think as long as wording is paid attention to and we're not actively conversing with say an Arch Fae or somehow in the Faewild, we should be safe introducing ourselves normally."The woman nodded seriously before turning to the merchant.
It seemed like quite a spread. Surely everything one would need for fishing. At least to her untrained eye. Whether or not it was or if it was worth the whole gold the merchant was asking was beyond her and she couldn't help but glance at the firbolg at her side. She waited to see if Bosko could afford it before asking, "We'll also be needing some rations. Preferably ones well suited for sea travel. We'll need three days worth of food and some water for three people."She gestured to her Lazarus and Bosko just in case that would change any calculations the man would think of how much would be considered 'three days worth' of rations.
OOC:skipping shopping-rp, Markus will go shopping for a few things and met the Jorge to get hired as well, before returning to his room. for the night.
Buying:
- Fishing Tackle - 1 gp - Ball Bearings (bag of 1,000) - 1gp - Rope Silk - 10gp
"People know from Feywild nice, helped in past", Bosko says casually before his eyes light up as the bearded human produces the fishing kit. He rummages around in his pouch and produces the gold. "Yes, looks good. Much thanks", he says as he places the gold into his palm and takes the kit.
He tips his hat and steps away to let Alyndra and Lazarus do their shopping, slipping the kit into his pack, as much of it that fits anyway. The rod pokes out a little bit but the Bugbear doesn't seem to mind.
After giving Bosko the fishing gear, shop owner produces a number of small pouches, and then, pulling from a selection of bins, he fills each one with a mix of jerky, dried fruit, hard biscuits, and nuts - three days work of food each, for a total of 45 sp.
He also has waterskins for 2 sp each. They will hold 4 pints of liquid, which would probably be the minimum you'd want for each day, especially, out on the sea. If it's sunny, you might want more. They're empty now, but you figure you can get them filled back at the inn.
When Sunita wakes in the morning she raids the pantry grabbing a few days worth of food and leaving some silver to cover her parents shopping, she also makes a half hearted attempt to wash the dishes but one of the plates has a rose pattern on it which sets her off thinking of how Rose died and she spends a few minutes at the sink hyperventilating until a sudden rooster crow outside snaps her back to the present.
She grabs her dads wineskin and tops it up with some cheap and nasty retsina before heading off to the inn to meet the others before heading to the wharf.....where hopefully she can talk her way into the job...
Lazarus would let his eyes roll as she would become overcompensated with the knowledge of fae and the like and to which, he wouldn't really be any the wiser himself. He just enjoyed teasing for the most part and this was the best way to do that at the time. He would listen as she would ask about their money and then begin to walk toward the stores to get what little they might need for the trip. While fishing wasn't something he would be against, he didn't think he would need the material itself if they would be on a boat full of fishermen or at the very least, he would aim to get something else himself and maybe take some whilst on the boat itself. "We should have enough to get what we really need."
Bosko would tell them that he had fished, just never out in the ocean but the way that Lazarus saw it, water was water and it should only take a bit of tweaking to get things on the same fast track when it comes to actually doing the deed of Actually fishing. "Bigger water means bigger fish. I'm pretty sure we can work it out when we get out there." Once in the shop, the store clerk would offer them a good enough deal and once Bosko got his supplies for fishing, he would take his leave to which Lazarus would give a two finger wave goodbye. "We'll be seein ya in the morning bud."
Lazarus would turn back to the clerk and look over the supplies and then reach into his pouch and start shifting around, collecting the coins in his palm before pulling out the money and placing it on the counter. "That should cover it all." He would then nod down toward the items and Alyndra to help him with the belongings. He would then give a yawn and take his leave with his wife. "Lets get some shut eye before all the night is gone."
Bosko picks up a couple of extra waterskins before he leaves the store and heads back to the inn and gets settled for night. He picks the smaller of the beds, if there is a difference, and although he looks like he is far too big to fit on it, somehow when he lies down and curls himself up it is the perfect size.
In the morning he rises early and, after quickly doing his ablutions, heads down for breakfast.
If he comes across Sunita and / or Markus, he will happily greet them and share a breakfast table. Same goes for Alyndra and Lazarus when they rise.

Bosko backs away slightly, looking to Lazarus and Alyndra as yet another human starts to speak with him.
"Um....not fishing trip. Shark Hunt", he says looking at the newcomer with furrowed brow, not really understanding the term leeching off my parents.
"Meeting man at dock tomorrow, get paid to get him there safe", he adds.
"Not sure if should be telling everyone", he continues once again throwing a sidelong glance at Lazarus and Alyndra.
"You have name?", he adds pointing at Sunita. At least if he knows her name, she isn't a stranger.
"Very well, folks. I will go work on my Gyrobeam and have a quick chat with this Jorge. I guess I'll see you tomorrow morning. Exciting !"
Markus packs up quickly his stuff and walks towards his room.

" Would anyone like a drink?", Sunita said sipping hers.

Lazarus Ryder - Adventures Abound in Wildemount
Bosko picks up a couple of extra waterskins before he leaves the store and heads back to the inn and gets settled for night. He picks the smaller of the beds, if there is a difference, and although he looks like he is far too big to fit on it, somehow when he lies down and curls himself up it is the perfect size.
In the morning he rises early and, after quickly doing his ablutions, heads down for breakfast.
If he comes across Sunita and / or Markus, he will happily greet them and share a breakfast table. Same goes for Alyndra and Lazarus when they rise.
