Gewyn takes his time, running his finger down the length of the sword. He tests the edge and then holds it aloft, feeling the weight of it in his hand. He looks around at his friends, and then at Spyro. Then his gaze becomes distant as he sinks into thought. "Flashy, stylish, the perfect weapon for Gewyn the Melodic."
Slowly, he places the weapon down with a wistful half-smile. As an aside to Spyro, he says, "But I must have a longer gaze now. Look further ahead than the old me." His hand slides over to the manual. He rests his fingers atop it and breathes in, feeling magic like a melody thrumming through his fingertips. "I'll take the book," he says at last. And... I'd be happy to hang onto that belt if Sam isn't ready to trust it," he says slyly. "I'm sure he'll change his tune once I beat him at a couple arm wrestles with it. It will at the very least help us through our conflict with Nivara one way or another, and if he still refuses it when our work here is done, I'll simply hand it back over."
"I don't trust you and I don't ask any trust of you," Sam replies. "If that offends you I'm not losing any sleep over it..."
While Gewyn makes his item selection and then tries to squeeze in on Sam's as well, Sam merely smirks and shrugs. It's no bother to him one way or the other. Scooby, on the other hand, is starting to sniff around the room. Likely trying to pick out a good spot to do his business. This also makes Sam smirk.
Vin reads his book, tuning out the noise as best he can. Neferox is now sitting next to him, taking a bit of an interest in the goings on in the room with the other items.
Ginro shrugs Sam off and turns attention to Gewyn's question. "However satisfying that might be for you, there is one other who can make good use of the belt and will likely be fighting on the frontlines, one of shenoh's advisors, a Pegataur, I'm not sure if you met him... Anyway Elthana, would you like to be shown the items picked out for you?"
As Ginro is about to direct Elthana over to where professor Hu is waiting, there is a vibrating sound and Ginro picks up a crystal from a pouch at his side. Listening to a message in auran he nods to himself and puts it away again.
After whispering something else to Sam, she leaves his side and heads over to Professor Hu to see what items he has prepared for her. As Ginro takes his 'phone call' she cocks an eyebrow, "Something pressing?"
"not at all," Ginro responds with a smile to Elthana, approaching the table to see her choice, "the test on the pocket dimension has begun. I'm interested to see the results but that will have to wait".
Professor Hu begins, he puts one curved shortsword and one amulet on the table, "the first here is a monk specific weapon, it balances with ki control and is called a Ki blade. The second was offered by one of our highest clerics, and is an amulet of the devout" (+3)
Ginro takes the amulet and rubs the front of it before putting it back on the table, "if you pick that one it will help you a lot, but it will be missed by the one who offered it, though don't let that stop you, your task ahead is critical."
Insight Check on Ginro claiming the call wasn't pressing! 24
As Elthana is being shown her items on offer, Sam takes a couple cautious steps into the room, having been waiting in the doorway until now, more or less. He walks over to Gewyn to get a glance at what he chose, eyeing the cover of the book, then steps next to Muir to glance at his robe, even tentatively reaching out to pinch the fabric between a couple of fingers. Scooby the mastiff even plods over and is sniffling up the robe as Muir puts it on. "Fancy," Sam says in passing. He looks over to Vin but the kid is already buried in his own book and probably doesn't want to be disturbed. Specially by Sam. Teenagers, go figure...
"Task ahead?" Sam asks warily. "Last I checked we were on a recruitment tour. Heading to the Giants next. Has something else come up?"
Scooby jumps up and puts his front paws on the table, sniffing after what Elthana is being offered. But after a sniff or three the hound realizes there is nothing edible up there and drops back down to the floor and walks over to Sam's side.
Elthana watches Ginro pick up the amulet and then put it down. She then glares at him a bit, why mention an item will be missed by the one that offered it? How does that help anyone? She picks the amulet up herself, turning it around in her hands, giving it a good look over before setting it back down. She then picks up the blade and gives it a couple of test swings, finding the balance point and holding it out with a tight grip.
She then speaks loud enough to get the attention of the entire group in the room, "The blade is so sharp and balanced, it's a pity really, you've tried to be so nice and helpful to us but the facade is slipping, what was the point in this trap? Why are you covering up your involvement with Nivara? We could have helped you, but you made a mistake. The one thing you shouldn't put in a trap. Is us."
Then with the blade held to her side, she steps quickly forward and punches Ginro in the face (8 dam). She uses a ki point for a flurry of blows as she upper cuts him (7 dam) and whirls around with a roundhouse kick. The kick misses, but as she spins around, she takes the ki blade and swipes it at Ginro's throat (7 dam).
Muir was taken aback by Sam’s reaching out and touching the robe. He jumped a bit but allowed Sam to touch the robe. As he begins to put the robe on he hears Elthana and then watches her beat on Ginro…..His suspicions confirmed. This whole ordeal seemed off….he watches Elthana swing the blade and assumes his robe is ok to put on. He does and readies himself for what’s to come.
Vin has no idea what is happening. He sighs, closes his book and puts it in his pack and then watches what is happening. Even Neferox seems a little confused, she looks to Vin and stays put for now, although a growl escapes her throat.
Sam had just now finished secretly placing an item upon Muir's person and suddenly shit is going down?? And it's not because of what he just did??
WTF??
Sam's head turned on a swivel as he heard a loud smacking plop of fist against face, his jaw dropping almost as if it was he himself hit when he sees Elthana attacking Ginro. Sure, they had just been discussing how they didn't trust the guy but... WTF???
Elthana had JUST voiced doubt that it was a trap. What the hell had changed and how come nobody had bothered to tell him. Him of all people. I mean c'mon, people! If you're going to do something hotheaded and overreact how do you not clue Sam in about it first?? That makes about as much sense as pooping without lowering your pants...
Seeing Ömertyr summon his weapon and look to him for guidance Sam can do little more than shrug. Sam was not ready for this at all. He wasn't even holding his own maul properly as he was trying to be all relaxed and subtle so as to deftly place his little surprise without being noticed. Had to be all subtle and shit, yo... But that did mean he had a hand free and near his belt...
In the brief moment it was taking Sam to process and decide what to do in reaction to Elthana's attack, Scooby was already in motion! With a loud, sharp BARK! the Mastiff flowed towards Ginro with a threatening growl and placed himself besides Elthana and lurching out to attack the Djinn. Scooby always thought they smelled funny anyway...
Scooby bite attack vs Ginro: 20to hit for 5piercing damage.. And if it hits Ginro must make a DC 11 Strength Save or be knocked prone...
I guess we're doing this, Sam thinks to himself immediately followed up with I'm too old for this shit...
Sam, not even sure they could defeat Ginro as Shenoh seemed pretty badass and untouchable, decides to try something tricksy with his first attack. Reaching into a pouch he immediately rushes up to Ginro and slams his hand down upon the Djinn with the contents in his open palm. If Ginro is prone due to Scooby's attack then Sam basically rushes over, drops to one knee and tries to slap his hand against Ginro's chest with the item in his open palm... If Ginro is not prone, Sam stays on his feet and basically tries to slap the top of Ginro's head or his shoulder...
Calling this an Unarmed Strike vs Ginro: 27to hit for 6bludgeoning damage and...
And... well... if this works...
"...a 60ft fully mature oak tree sprouts from that surface and takes root there. The oak grows in an instant, it exists and moves, or breaks, any surface under it as if it had grown there naturally over the course of 30 years."
Sam forgoes his second attack of the round... He's likely being thrust back and away from Ginro anyway as the tree instantly begins existing...
(Just in case Scooby DID knock Ginro prone and Sam would have had advantage on his attack on them... rolling another d20 to see if I get a nat 20? Nope, just a 9... so just 27 to hit.)
At Elthana's words Ginro looks confused, and then the confusion falls away to be immediately replaced by shock as the first palm strike pops his nose, "Wha-" the flurry of blows cuts off his question, and the slice to the side of his neck that follows does nothing to sate the utter bewilderment on the djiin's face. He staggers slightly at the dog biting down on him but does not fall and then the slam of Sam's meaty palm on his chest. (less surprising that the swing your sword guy joins in) suddenly Ginro is flung one way sprawling across the easternmost table and breaking it as he lands but manages to remain upright enough to see the instant tree which forcefully flung him, its roots bury into the ground splitting the once flawless crystal floor.
Professor Hu nervously twists a ring on his feathered finger and disappears from veiw to all but Muir, every one of the sewn lines on the loxodon's new robe snap open revealing varying spectral eyes which survey every inch of the room in a frenzied twitching way.
Ömertyr rushes forward, confused but regarding sam's attack as an answer to his wordless question and with his summoned morningstar and takes a wild couple of swings at the djiin, (16, miss. 28 to hit, 27 piercing movement to 5ft southeast of ginro)
Muir caught a whiff of something vaguely familiar….He took a deep sniff as Sam pounced on Ginro and grew a tree. He realized what the smell was…..Sam's rat that maimed him..... He quickly checked the pockets and pulled out a sleeping rat…In a panic at seeing the rat that chewed off his fingers and dissected other various parts, he yells "RAT!" in horror and throws the rat towards where Vin and Gewyn are standing, landing with a thud at their feet.
Gewyn is caught entirely off guard as the assault happens. His hand goes to his side, reaching for a weapon as he tries to get a read on the situation. Then he hears Muir screaming about a rat, and next thing he knows, it has landed at his feet. "Ah!"He exclaims in surprise. Reflexively, he kicks out with his leg, trying to get the creature away from him as he struggles to process. (Unarmed strike, critical hit, 0 damage.) His foot connects with a meaty thunk as he sends the rat sailing off accidentally towards the scuffle between Ginro and his teammates.
The rat is sleeping peacefully when it is awoken when being lifted out of Muir's pocket, it smells him back, a familiar smell which reminds the rat of hunger and stomach aches, just as it is getting its bearings the floor begins approaching it rapidly, but the rat lands on its feet only to be summarily kicked across the room by Gewyn's foot. When it reaches its eventual stop atop Ginro's head.
Chaos apparently breaks loose during these moments, with the surprising attacks catching Ginro off guard, Hu disappearing in fright, Sam joining in and exploding a tree into existence, Ömertyr joining the fight though still being confused as to why.
Ginro managing to remain upright holds his broken nose and shouts out, "what are you talking about? What trap? What façade? Nothing you are accusing me of has any substance or sense! What has come over you?!" He doesn't appear angered, more hurt and confused.
The tree warbles, the group see the odd runic markings in the grain of the bark around the trunk, but only Muir can read the ancient runes of primordial script, 'MOUTH' and this mouth is opening. As if phasing out of the very bark itself, a medium sized monster lumbers, it's body shaped like a headless torso covered in a cobbled exterior and with too many limbs, where the head should be are rows and rows of sharp teeth which meet at the neck line where yellowing eye blinks like an amulet around someone's neck, it blinks with confusion, it blinks with glee. Lumbering forward is shouts out two words in goblish, and then another appears, and a third, though the third is even bigger the three monsters lumber into the room on three legs, waving their three arms around and chanting those two words in goblish.
Elthana is a bit stunned as Sam grows a tree that knocks Ginro out of the way. She glowers at Ginro as he shouts at her, seemingly oblivious to the toothy. limbed monsters that join them out of the tree.
"What trap?!? You refuse to acknowledge that Mori was here and I know she was! You helped facilitate the mornlyf factories! You insult our group because you don't think we'd figure it out! But you didn't count on us knowing that you are working with Nivara, did ya?!" She starts seething as she yells back at the djinn, the newly acquired blade being traded from one hand to the other, the balance perfect.
Then she is back on the attack against Ginro... using her new blade, and finishing with a right hook...
Attack: 22, Damage: 12
Attack: 15, Damage: 13 (Attack changed to 15+2 due to ki point used for focused aim.)
Gewyn recovers his composure and runs toward Sam, Elthana, an Ginro. "WAIT!"he shouts.
His voice booms and echoes with a commanding gravitas. Air whips around him, and his skin begins to ripple with chaotic iridescence, His eyes turn to black, like ink dropped in water, and light shines through the back of his clothes where his tattoo is hidden. For a moment, looking at him is like staring into the void as his presence becomes otherworldly.
(Fae Presence: DC 16 or be frightened of Gewyn until the end of his next turn for Sam and Elthana)
