"Teleportation yes, that someone will be along just to get you there but it sounds like you've already seen it Elthana." Sol says in answer to both Vin and Elthana. "The caskets are being taken care of, the problem is finding them and trying to estimate how many there might be, your descriptions were truly helpful though Sam... I'm sorry I really have to go, I wish you all luck, send messengers if you cannot report back yourselves, we need all isles to assist in the coming assault on Nivara."
With that, Sol leaves looking tired, hurrying away to recast his daylight upon Francis to assist in the termination of the full vampires to make sure they do not return.
Griff gets up seeing that Sam is awake and goes to sit near him engaging him in quiet conversation. Another ten minutes goes by before a familiar face enters the room, a Goliath that the group know by the name Ingram. He has a gash on his head though it is no longer bleeding, he gives the group a toothy grin and asks, "you all ready, I've been excited to see Ginro's little project, so I volunteered myself."
Vin nods to Sol and then also waits quietly until Ingram appears.
The Goliath's excitement is catching, with Vin also to try out the teleportation, and see Ginro. He almost jumps up, calling over to Neferox who is snoozing, and gets up slowly and stretches.
"We are ready", Vin replies, not waiting for Neferox to actually be ready.
Sam talks quietly with Griff for a bit but it does not last very long before Sam gets to his feet and starts stretching out the old man kinks and pains which come from laying on the floor. He was hoping for more rest but it sounds like they will be on the move again soon. Not the vampire hunting which he feels he would prefer as it more fits his abilities but movement is something at least so going visiting is at least a kind of progress?
Ingram either takes Vin's statement as him talking for the group, or is merely too excited to care as he claps his hands and says a little too loudly, "right then! Follow me!" And begins to exit.
Outside the war room his griffon stands guard and as the group are led down the long and large crystal corridors, the griffon pads along behind, it's large claws clacking as it follows.
People seem to be rushing here and there, the tension and speed of people definitely reflects their apprehension and alertness as the organisation of the counterattack seems to be well underway.
Once you reach your destination. You enter a large circular room, illuminated from above. Folk of all manner in white monk robes and with different arrays of toolkits at their sides stand ready, admiring the great runes that have been freshly carved into the floor. One bespectacled shadar-kai with long white hair stretched back in a tight pony tail greets you.
Above a series of pulleys are being cleared away after apparently being used to set a large sphere into the ceiling, several people standing on the ceiling seem to be measuring the movement within the sphere, where a matrix series of crystals seem to be drifting around. The matrix is moving of it's own accord as the scientists make minor adjustments.
"Welcome to the new teleportation room" Ingram says, and then takes a moment to speak to the shadar-kai and get things moving.
Sam looks around taking it all in. Specially the looks on people’s faces and the fact this looks so completely just now finished.
“Just how sure are we that this will work?” He asks nobody in particular, his voice loud enough to include everyone. “I mean… it’s at least been tested a few times, yes?”
"the project completed and tested one hour ago, since realm travel opened up again certain magics have become tenable, namely teleportation, our research into it's possibility has been entirely theoretical for some time, and the biggest problem with teleportation in this realm is that every isle is in constant motion with separate movement localisations to each isle. The runes are fresh, the matrix array keeping track of each isle's location. It has not exemplified any miscalculations in it's testing" the shadar Kai responds to the interest, her hands clasped in front of her
As soon as Vin walks into the room, he is fascinated. He focusses on the runes and the sphere with the crystals drifting, trying to work out some of the basic theory behind it.
As the Shader Kai explains the timescale for the completion and testing of the project, he looks across to her.
"How many tests did you perform? Is one hour enough of a time variance to ensure the tracking of the islands is 100% accurate? Does it only work if there is a similar setup on the other side, or can you teleport from here to anywhere? Is that how it works, creating a link to an identical device on Ginro? Do all the isles have one?", he asks, his questions coming in a stream as he asks and considers answers himself almost at the same time.
The shadar Kai smiles, "very astute, yes. Some of the other isles have circles too, either being finished within the next few days on akiin or already complete on ginro, here, and upon Duun. The realms best navigators have been working together to fine tune the calculations of orbit and velocity in reference to one another, and these realm positioning matrices..." She points to the sphere above the circle, "...will be activated upon use, once linked the accuracy of the teleportation has been recorded as 99.99% accurate, that is to say the teleporting creatures will land within 1 foot of their target landing spot.
Gojiin and the shattered isle will take more time to establish permission and acquisition of resources, but I hope we may soon create teleport links there too "
Muir simply nods at the runes question. He figured that would be the answer but he had to ask. Hearing Vin's questions Muir smiles, unable to hide it. Vin's line of rapid fire questioning, in Muir like fashion, were very good questions he thought.
Vin listens to the answer, intrigued by the application of Arcane knowledge to this scale. Especially as it relates to the portals between realms.
"You mentioned this was possible because realm travel was working again. Does that mean you are syphoning power from that system in order to make this work? Are there dangers in that, if it is what you are doing?".
"not siphoning in the sense that I think you mean, hmm how to explain... The realm portals radiate a specific type of arcanum, like a warming stone gives off heat. With the portals closed the arcanum could not be taken advantage of, but now that it is open we have access. But this should not take anything from the realm portal, just like existing and being warmed in a room with a warming stone doesn't take anything from it, in the base sense. To the warming stone it does it's job regardless of whether you are in the room or not..." She rambles a little, apparently excited and surprised that she gets to talk about her specialist subject to someone who is interested, though when she catches herself she gives Vin a hesitant smile as if to ask if she's even making sense.
Elthana listens to Vin and the woman talk, amused by her friend and his inquisitive nature coming through. She starts walking around the room admiring the newly carved runes and careful to make sure she doesn't step somewhere she isn't supposed to.
"Gojiin? Why does that isle take longer than the rest as well as the shattered isle?" She finds she is starting to get impatient though, she wants to go see Ginro. Then a thought occurs to her, "Weren't we also going to stop and talk to some giants to try and get them on our 'side'? Is that up to Shenoh now?"
"Very interesting. I mean, it goes a little over my head, but the analogy really helped", Vin replies to the transporter chief.
He waits for the answer to Elthana's question. He has no idea about Gojiin, but until recently he expects the idea of instant travel to the Shattered Isle would be a military strategy to invade. He hopes now they mean for it to be more friendly.
"The giants, well remembered. Were they friends of Ömertyr?", he says, not realising Elthana was speaking to Griff.
"Within a foot?" Sam asks. "And what happens if the teleport subject ends up a foot lower than expected? They end up stuck in the floor?" He is always the pessimist...
But mostly Sam looks and waits while others talk.
"We came to Shenoh first, before getting captured by her people and all, since we believed she had more forces by number and thus would need more time to amass and prepare them,' Sam grumbles and answers. "Ömertyr had two giants he proposed we could try to recruit to our cause that we decided to wait on til after this lovely visit..." ((I think it was an Ice Giant and a... I forget off hand. I am thinking some kind of dark giant but yeah, it's escaping me at the moment. I would have to look it up...))
"I wonder if the giants are easily reached from Ginro or Duun", Vin wonders, knowing leaving Shenoh the traditional way would mean exposing themselves to the ongoing conflict with the vampires.
He turns back to the transporter operator, "Actually, one thing I didn't understand. Do you have to teleport from one of these devices to another, or can it send us anywhere? And is it capable of sending large creatures like Rocs?".
"with contentions in the shattered isle and prohibition of anyone to go there, you'd see how that would be difficult, though I've been told just a few hours ago that this may change soon enough. Gojiin is a different story, we need a secure space and resources to build such a device and it is difficult to procure either with an uncommunicative and unsupportive isle leader such as Gojiin. I do not mean to offer opinion as fact, these are merely the actual blocks causing us the most difficulty in those isles." The shadar-kai offers as a response to Elthana.
As Sam expresses his concerns the woman's service smile doesn't falter, "the movement of the isles is on a horisontal axis the only parameter that needs accounting for at such an exacting measurement, each isle is falling through the vast at a perpetual terminal velocity and each matrix sphere has been situated at the exact same height throughout. It would be impossible for the 1ft error margin to occur through that specific axis, that is to say up or down... You are completely safe."
As Vin continues his question train, the operator dutifully responds. "The teleportation circles are a closed circuit I'm afraid, the interference of other teleportation attempts without the necessary coordinates accounting for movement between the isles could be fatal, it would be impossible without the sphere matrices... Or perhaps some kind of divine telemetrics" she muses at that last statement as if an idea has caught in her mind and begun to burrow like a worm. The shadar-kai, distracted and lost momentarily in thought os snapped out of it by Ingram who claps his hands together, rubs them in excitement and takes a few steps into the runic circle, "I actually already asked that question earlier, on account of wanting to take my griffon through" the Goliath griffon rider gleefully responds to Vin, "apparently anything that fits inside the circle can pass through"
Looking at the base of runes carved into the ground it appears likely big enough for the entire group, Ömertyr and Ingram's griffon included. It would likely o ly take one Roc at a time though.
Sam nods as if he understands but the only part he fully understands, "You are completely safe," he doesn't fully believe. Still, he walks over to the teleportation circle and slowly steps into it, as if it may hurt or tingle or something. Once inside of it he stands uncomfortably, switching standing positions several times in short order as if he's the problem child bei ng told to stand for a family photo in nice clothes or something.
Vin looks across to Muir, and then motions to Ömertyr.
"Teleporting to Ginro is all very well, but what about the Rocs, Muir? They came to assist us, are we really going to leave them penned here? And Ömertyr's pack is still on the surface", he asks a bit concerned about going to Ginro, and possibly Duun, and not having means of onwards travel.
"Without those things, we won't be able to go and rally the giants ourselves. Unless we are given other methods of transport by the other Djinn, I guess. Nor can we return to the Shattered Isle".
