Ludolph holds his hand out for the letter, anxious to read it as well. After reading it he says in draconic to Stoneclaw, “You said that someone could go get your son’s journals? I think that would be great, I would like to have a look at them. The letter references another name beside Nikolas that you used to answer to, what does that mean? Do you have any clue who wrote this, they seem to certainly know you.” He studies that handwriting and looks for clues, defining marks, hoping to recognize the handwriting if he ever sees it again.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
After looking at the letter in detail, reviewing the parchment, the handwriting, Ludolf glances around the table and then gives the parchment a good long sniff. He folds it back up and says, “Do you mind if I hold onto this? Evidence and so forth…” If he agrees, he folds it up and makes a place for it in his journal. He goes back to the tenderloin, finishing off the last piece, mouth working furiously as he thinks, lost in thought for a moment.
He reaches into his pocket and brings out his spell book, lovingly caressing it. He speaks to it with a low, soft voice, like it is a dictaphone and he's sharing his thoughts with it. You would just hear murmurings, nothing really that you could pick up as he shares his thoughts with the book. He gives it a quick sniff as well, then puts it back in his pocket. He looks up at all of you like nothing ever happened and that this is completely normal behavior.
A shocked look crossed Sir Stoneclaw's face when he heard Eglar speaking draconic. After the initial shock faded he composed himself before responding to his question. "Her name is Ketmora Darkslayer, she has a nack for finding information that most would over look."
Karrigg
There was a moment of hesitation when Nikolas heard him mention the implication of a hidden identity. He glanced at the table and thought about how best to respond to him, after a minute he finally found his words.
"That it does and although I wish that it was a falsification by the blackmailer it is not. I know... with my actions and inactions I have gained more enemies enemies than I have allies. That being said I don't see anyone at this table as an enemy, sure you're strangers here but I have a feeling that putting my trust in you would be the right thing to do." He took a breath before getting to his feet and walking over to him. As soon as he was close enough he whispered, "Did your uncle ever mention the name Nildrorayrth, the swift protector by any chance?"
Ludolf
Nikolas turned his attention to Ludolf and nodded slightly. "That I did. Give me a few seconds and I'll have them retrieve them for you." He replied in draconic before slowly straightening up and walking over towards the door. He stepped out into the hallway and you can hear him speaking with someone. "Miara can you retrieve those books that Xavword left in the study? I would appreciate it greatly."
"Yes sir. If it means helping find the young master than it shall be done." Miara responded before the sound of footsteps could be heard leaving the area. After a few seconds Nikolas returned and made his way back to his seat.
"It may be a few minutes until the journals arrive but I hope that they might shed some light on what may have happened that lead to this. Ah... well you see, there was a time in my life when I went by the name of Nildrorayrth. However a few years after Lord Darkbranch took his place as leader he suggested that I start going by Nikolas. But only Basil, my wife Jilenyphe, Balbrek Giantblade and Virnelis Shadowpetal knew about this initially. But with that being said... it is possible that the murderer and blackmailer found out this information before dispatching Lord Darkbranch. I wish I knew who it was but that handwriting doesn't look similar to any of the ones I previously mentioned." He continued before adjusting his collar again and taking a breath. He nods when asked if he could hold onto the letter before raising a brow slightly as he watched him caress his book in a loving fashion. After a couple seconds he poured himself another glass of wine and began to drink as he tried to rationalize what he'd just witnessed.
{With a 24 Ludolf notices that although it initially looked as though there was only one writer there are a few differences in handwriting halfway through the letter. The words in first part of the letter have a slight hint of a slant to them and it is slightly difficult to tell some letters apart from others while the second part has a hint of flare on certain letters and the words are a little larger than the ones in the first part. The parchment smells of seawater and flowers which is quite an uncommon mixture of sents this far inland.}
A shocked look crossed Sir Stoneclaw's face when he heard Eglar speaking draconic. After the initial shock faded he composed himself before responding to his question. "Her name is Ketmora Darkslayer, she has a nack for finding information that most would over look."
Eglar shrugs and says in Draconic again as he smiles "Giants learn the language of potential enemies. And that's good to know. I guess that when we read the journals, we might find out who else knew that Xavword was going to see her."
A thought crosses his mind Who was he talking to? He looks around for any signs of someone he cant see.
A similar thought crosses Ludolf’s mind at the same time. You see him reach into his backpack of items at his feet and rummage around for a second, then he brings out an odd looking contraption and places it on his head. “Apologies.” he says, “I think this can help with our investigation.” It looks a little bit like this :
He looks around the table and isolates the thoughts of each of you, eliminating them. After he has made sure that he has isolated those thoughts he turns his gaze around, rotating in the chair 360 degrees, to detect thoughts present in the room that are not accounted for, to make sure that there is no one who is not visible, lurking.

A thought crosses his mind Who was he talking to? He looks around for any signs of someone he cant see.
Nikolas nodded slightly and smiled back at him. "That certainly is a good reason to learn another language. Knowing what a potential enemy is planning does have it's possible advantages as well as it's disadvantages." As he spoke, he rubbed his chin slightly. "I've only skimmed over the pages of the journal from the last time, if he accidentally crossed someone and they found out about their meeting..." He trailed off and let out a soft sigh before scratching the back of his neck a little.
He didn't exactly realize that it was rather odd that he'd been talking with someone that the others at the table couldn't see. But as he noticed Eglar looking around he shifted slightly with a hesitant chuckle.
Nikolas took a breath as he placed his hands in his lap, he wasn't use to being interrogated but he understood where Karrigg was coming from.
"That is an old story but it could be one of the reasons why someone would want me dead. Back in the day I was in quite a different situation than I am now. Back then I didn't feel the need to hide myself away from everyone and I actually enjoyed dealing with people... although I was just as awkward as I am now... or maybe slightly even moreso now that I think about it. It doesn't help that I was sharing a name with a gold dragon, which could explain the 'scaley bastard' remark." He replied, shifting in his seat slightly as he mentioned the dragon.
{It's possible that he may have heard stories about the gold dragon and rumors that it had disappeared the day that the murder occurred.}
Ludolph’s mouth forms a smile as he passes over Eglar and he continues to look over the room, if he senses nothing, his gaze lingers on their host.
As Ludolph continues to look over the room there initially doesn't seem to be anyone hiding from sight in the room although just inside the door way there seems to be something there that hadn't been there earlier. 'Maybe I should assist in retrieving those journals. I know that Xavword left two in the study but he hid the last one in his room...' It may have been one of the servers from earlier but it was difficult to tell, not having seen him properly.
As his glance falls back upon Nikolas he seems to raise a brow slightly. "If you don't mind me asking... what exactly is that contraption of your's?" He questioned.'Why did I mention my old name and the dragon in the same sentence? Last time that happened I had to make up some story about my mother naming me after the dragon but I doubt they'd fall for that... they seem like quite the clever bunch in a manner of speaking.'
You can see Ludolf smile again in the mask, he’s settled in his seat and seems to feel quite comfortable with it on. He says aloud “It just helps me to focus, helps me with my thoughts and questions, also helps me to know that we are alone and no one else is hidden out of sight, if you know what I mean. Ulitree gave me this to me when he sent me here to meet you and aid you in this task, he thought it would be useful and I agree. Now, Nildorayth you said, I haven’t heard that name before Sir Stoneclaw, who is this dragon that you mention, a golden dragon? What is its name? Can you tell us more of the story, I am curious….” As he says this he keeps his gaze on Stoneclaw/Nildorayth, continuing to probe the surface layers of his thoughts as the topic is discussed.
