Ludolf recoils slightly as he feels the push back against his efforts. He suddenly takes the helm off and sets it down, nearly knocking over his glass of wine. His smile is a little more forced now, he pushes his plate away from him at the table and picks up the glass of wine, swirling it and seems lost in his own thoughts, then downs the glass. He picks up his notebook and produces his quill again and takes some additional notes, recording his thoughts. As they are waiting, he says “The journals, should be here soon, yes? I might also like a look through your son’s room if possible.” His replies a little more curt, he seems ? frustrated? that he couldn’t probe thoughts at a deeper level to connect the dots further. He scratches his beard with the corner of his notebook absentmindedly and gives the binding a good, deep sniff. Finally, he puts the helm back in his pack for now.

"I must have said what I was thinking without realizing it, sorry about that." He let out a halfhearted chuckle and shifted his gaze for a moment. "I understand that your trying to get all the facts right so you can narrow down the list of suspects. I can go retrieve..." he trailed off slightly as he noticed someone standing in the door with a raised brow. Before he could say anything else she walked into the room and over to the table, giving everyone sitting at it a small smile.
"You don't need to do that Nikolas, I'm right here." The Half-Elf woman said as she made her way to one of the remaining seats at the table. "I would have been down earlier but I lost track of time while reading in the conservatory and if it hadn't been for Estelle finding me and asking me why I wasn't at dinner I'd still have been there... although it was a much needed distraction."
Ludolf
He doesn't really say much as he watches him but after a while he nods slightly in response to his first question. He had been surprised by the attempted mental probing and in his shock he had put his guard up even though in most other circumstances he might have let him do it without much resistance at all. "Yes, the journals should be here very soon. In fact it wouldn't surprise me if Miria walked through the doors with them any second now." There was a faint hint of a hum at the end of his sentence as he motioned towards the door. After a couple seconds he leaned a little further back in his seat and reached into his jacket. "Normally I'd say no but I guess it couldn't hurt. Just don't break anything while you're in there."
'What in the world did I miss?' Jilenyphe thought as she watched Nikolas and Ludolf with a raised brow. As she was just about to say something a tall woman in her late thirties entered the room. She quietly nods to Nikolas and then to her before placing two books down on the table. "Sir... I could only find these." She said in a dull tone before turning to leave the room.
Flutter
Stoneclaw straightened up a little as he pulled out a key, flipping it in his hand as he listened to him. "I don't really know if they would be connected to that but if one were to be then that wouldn't surprise me." He took a moment to think about what he had said again and shrugged ever so slightly. "I mean the most obvious one I can think of is the connection to the dragon."
"You mean... wait did you tell them that bullshit story about your mother naming you after the dragon rather than telling them the truth? Nikolas they deserve to know the truth, I know you don't really like people knowing about it but if they should know." She took a breath and looked at the others at the table for a moment as she thought about the best way to say it. "My love wasn't named after the dragon, he is the dragon. Back before the passing of Lord Darkbranch he'd been doing everything in his power to keep those he had been sworn to protect safe while also keeping things in check in the city even though he had enough on his plate as it was."
“Hah!” comes out of Ludolf before he can stop it. He has a self satisfied smirk on his face as he pours himself a second glass of wine. After that he sets his notebook on the table and fumbles around in his pack, then puts on his helm again. He focuses on Stoneclaw and thinks, says to him telepathically “I knew it! I had my suspicions, she’s right, why did you hide it? Thank goodness for your better half. Hah!” and he smiles broadly at Nildorrayth. He glances over at Miria, scanning her superficial thoughts and finally focusing on Jilenyphe, scanning her surface thoughts as well.

Nildrorayrth fought the urge to sink into his seat when he heard Ludolf and glanced over at Jilenyphe for a second. He took a breath and faked a small smile. 'If the information was to fall into the wrong hands then that would put a massive target on my family and my backs. Not that there wasn't already one there to begin with. She quite the lady, if it wasn't for her I'd probably have been killed.' He thought in response to the telepathic message. His gaze shifts to the notebook for a second.
Miria's Thoughts
'I hope that Xavword hasn't gotten himself killed because of this.'
'Where did that other journal go? I was almost certain that I'd seen it just the other day...'
Jilenyphe's thoughts
'Maybe I over stepped a little. But he'd probably never would have told them otherwise.'
'Why did he want to go into Xavword's room, does he know something about what happened to him?'
Karrigg stands on a woman entering the room, but doesn't bow. He watches her every move and response, watching for any sign of deception, guilt, shame, hate, all the motivators for ill intent.
Insight 21
{With a 21 Karrigg doesn't notice any of the key signs of ill intent from the woman but he can pick up that she is worried about something, more than likely it's due to her missing son but it could also be because she sensed someone or something in the room that shouldn't be there and is trying to spot it without causing a panic.}
Eglar not wanting to be rude but feeling a sense of urgency thumps the table with his fist to get everyone's attention "Is this place protected from scrying?"he thinks probably not considering an uncommon item worked so well here. "This information should not leave this room. Secrecy should be vowed." he glances momentarily at Jilenyphe the looks at the general group his eyes settling on the Dragon.
"Information is power and can hold sway over the hearts of others. I believe, we should, all"he gestures to everyone including the servants, whom should be questioned too. "retire to your office. Regardless of how messy."
He wonders if said office was sacked by the perpetrators of these crimes? Or maybe even the Dragons lair.
Jilenyphe raises a brow slightly when she saw Karrigg lean in closer to her, when she heard what he'd whispered she hesitated for a moment before nodding ever so slightly. "I didn't exactly see anything but I did feel someone or something brush past me when..."She was cut off by thump on the table. Without a second of hesitation she turned her attention towards Eglar and thought about his question.
"Up until this evening I was under the impression that it was but now it is apparent that I was wrong." Nildrorayrth admitted, trying to keep his voice calm and even although he was beginning to panic thanks to the realization that someone could have been listening in on the conversation the entire time without him even noticing. "A vow of secrecy seems like the right move... right about now."
He slowly rises from his seat and takes a deep breath, cursing under his breath as he did so. "You would be correct about that, information is both a powerful tool and a powerful weapon that can turn the tides of battle and be used to manipulate those in power depending on what it is. Now if you would all kindly follow me." He hesitated for a moment before motioning for everyone in the room to follow him. "We can continue this in my office, I might have to move a few things to make some space for everyone but it's better than being possibly spied on." After a couple seconds Jilenyphe slowly stood up and looked around the room for a couple seconds, waiting for the others.
Ludolf concentrates as before with his helm, eliminating the minds that he knows, he stands and turns a 360, trying to isolate any thoughts that he has not heard yet and pick up any invisible lurker who may be listening to their conversation. He says calmly to Nildorayth, “Uh Sir Stoneclaw, could someone from the kitchen bring us a bag of flour? That might be useful…”

Suddenly getting very quiet, Flutter listens intently for noise from any invisible creatures. If he is confident he has located an invisible eavesdropper, he drops a Faerie Fire on the location where he hears the sound.
Nildrorayrth nods ever so slightly in response to what Eglar had said before placing his hands behind his back. "... Right, that will probably be for the best." He replied in a low whisper as he continued down the hallway.
Ludolf
Invisible lurker's thoughts:
'Maybe I should have waited until the group left to pay them a visit and check to see if they had found anything out about poor Xavword. I... I should have kept a closer eye on him.' {The thoughts seem to be coming from the corner near the door}
Stoneclaw paused for a moment when Ludolf asked for a bag of flour before nodding ever so slightly. He glanced at the servants in the hallway for a moment before casually motioning for the one closest to him to go to the kitchen. "If you honestly think it will be useful then I don't see any problem with it."
Flutter
There's a soft and somewhat barely audible sigh near the door and there is also a barely audible swishing sound that might just be the sound of a tail swinging. When the Faerie Fire is dropped a faint string of curses escaped the invisible lurker.
As the light of the spell outlined items in the area it also seemed to outline what looked to be a Tiefling standing where the sounds had been heard. A faint string of curses escaped the Tiefling as he moved back against the wall.
Ludolf snaps his attention to the invisible lurker as he stands, saying “There is someone with us…” and concentrates the power of his helm, using it to cast suggestion on the invisible lurker, telling him to “End your invisibility, make yourself visible to us and lie down on the ground, with your hands behind your back!”
